Thought we might get an apology for Karl Deeter saying ‘sh1t’. Was a pretty funny part of the show.

If you want to hear Trump is a Nazi and the same comments he's been making about Trump for the past 10 years, then Pat Kenny is for you.

If you want more in depth analysis, context etc on Trump and America you need to go elsewhere.

Go on then, enlighten us as to where this deeper analysis can be found, rather than just your usual scolding because of Pat's latest count of lèse-majesté.

Times Radio is quite good. Pat doesn't even listen to the answers anymore. He just replies with the same Trump is terrible line. And zero self reflection on our own lack of action on Ukraine. I was embarrassed listening to his interview with the Finnish lady who knows full well Ireland won't come to their aid if attacked by Russia.

Its hard to figure out Pat these days, he is an intelligent man with years of broadcasting experience behind him but he just cant shake this chip off his shoulder about Trump. He is getting hard to listen to at this stage.

Yep. It's hard to be objective when talking about Trump, but that's Pat's job as presenter. Or at the very least he should restrain himself from not going into full on insult mode (even if it is Trump). It just comes across as very unprofessional to me, given that the show is supposed to be a news and current affairs show.

Yes he's reduced Trump segments to childish name calling and making the same Trump comments over and over again. Even if he's right we'd like some actual analysis. In order to get a decent analysis on where things are we have to turn to UK media for better discussions.

And I really don't think he's the American politics expert he seems to think he is.

I'm not sure he's ever said that America has always and will always suit itself.

I never thought I'd say this, but Pat could take Claire Byrne's approach - listened to her interviewing some 'Republicans Overseas' guy from the UK and this halfwit was giving the most ignorant/offensive analysis in defence of Trump and Vance in relation to Ukraine. You could sense that Claire thought he was talking sh1te, but she just calmly challenged him and then brought in Donnacha O Beachain to very eloquently put the boot in (he was good with Pat this morning too).

He was the same about lockdown. I'll never forget him worrying that a mechanic was at risk by handling car keys. He's also obsessed with scooters, thinks users should be registered. Poor Conor Faughnan (who I think is brilliant) has to try and talk sense to him every time it comes up.

Pat is hilarious. He always so riled up by stories his reporters have done that he nearly shouts at them.

There was one on tolls a few weeks back, and the reporter spoke about how some tolls are subsidised by the state because not enough cars went through them. Pat was just short of blaming the reporter for it happening he was that apoplectic 😂

Aw Pat, not again! Headliners are discussing "Trumps chaotic start to the presidency" with Alistair Campbell. It never stops. He actually thinks the entire country agree with him. I don't and ironically I am a huge fan of PK.

This ranting has to stop, some of us have our own opinions on Trump , he is doing some things very wrong and some things right. The war in Ukraine has to stop, Zelensky has now come back and apologised and a deal is on the table!

Trump is doing what he promised to do when elected. So what's the issue Pat?

I don't usually indulge in conspiracy theories but this Trump as a Russian asset one...hmm

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭Cole

I think Trump and Vance are devoid of integrity and doing all kinds of harm in all kinds of areas (even if there's the odd positive policy here and there)…but I still want to hear the other side of the argument. Like when Larry Donnelly tries to explain the appeal for some Americans of Trump or Donnacha O Beachain from DCU hitting Trumpers with some of the facts they often overlook.

That Alistair Campbell chat this morning was utterly pointless…just two fellas slagging off Trump. I learned nothing.

I think Trump is doing what he said he would do. He has hit the ground running, made massive changes, good and bad, but he has certainly shaken the sleepy political scene up both in the US and Europe. Our newly elected Government here went on an extended Christmas break and finally went back to work more than 3 months after the election!

When any of the Ministers are interviewed these days their default response is "ah we are only getting to grips with our briefs, that wasn't on my call, I wasn't in the job then, I am only a few weeks in" etc. Trump SAID he would stop the wars, so why is everyone so surprised he has pulled USAID and all military support to Ukraine?

We are so used to our politicians talking the talk and doing nothing, overspending on every single project and saying "lessons will be learnt" !

Anyway I don't want to derail the Pat Kenny Show thread! Just give it a break Pat for a few days.

Zelensky is supposed to apologise but no sign of Putin apologising for invading Ukraine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭Cole

Pat is determined to push this one (he's dropped it in a few times this week). I don't think that's a wise thing for Pat to do…makes him sound a bit like those headbangers on the 'other side' who promote all kinds of mad stuff.

I've heard others (e.g. the former head of GCHQ in the UK) dismiss it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,122 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

All the same, he wouldn't treat Putin the same way he treated Zelensky.

Got to kiss those Kremlin butt cheeks.

Alastair Campbell, the man who lied about weapons in Iraq.

no, I didn't say Putin shouldn't apologise, of course he should, but that's never going to happen . However Zelensky relies completely on US money, (unlike Putin who doesn't), therefore he needed to be far more diplomatic when dealing with Trump last week.

Like it or not the Ukraine war would have ended long ago and the lives of hundreds of thousands of men saved if Biden hadn't been shoveling money and ammunitions over , no questions asked.

Zelensky has nothing to apologise for Putin has.

The ones lacking diplomacy in the Oval Office were Trump and Vance.

The war is all on Putin.

If he didn't invade his neighbour and kill people there would be no war.

What happened last week was a disgrace and Trump and Vance own that. Fine if they have issues with Zelensky, thrash them out in a private meeting. The guy was ambushed and belittled by design. It made Trump and Vance look really bad and made America look bad.

I agree Ukraine is being used as a proxy actor by the US. The goal was to weaken Russia and that was working. I agree that if the US cared about lives they’d have stepped up the effort to resolve this but it’s in their interest. Trump however mugging a country at war for mineral rights and giving Russia breathing room to regroup won’t bring peace. It’s kicking the can fund the road. Russia will be back. Trump is an idiot who can’t see this.

Most voters voted for trump alot of people do not vote in any election

working class people will get a shock when they realise trump is going to cut medicare medicaid social security and pensions medical expenses in America are the highest in any country if you go to a private hospital he is selling off government buildings he aims to destroy the federal government so there's no one left to enforce regulations corporations can rip off consumers and dump chemicals any where they want

The democrats are obsessed with dei political correctness and minor issues about equality

They need to get in touch with working class voters alot if people won't vote for a black female president

Pat kenny is right to be annoyed by trump but he needs to keep it professional and not get too angry about any politicani listen to the highlights podcast I think he's the best radio presenter on Irish news radio

Maybe presenters don't want to talk about immigration as they don't want to appear racist

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,044 ✭✭✭mykrodot

I never said Zelensky had to apologise. I said he needs diplomacy to make these kind of deals with the likes of Trump if he wants continued financial support to continue this war.

Over and out, this is not for discussion on The Pat Kenny Show thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,044 ✭✭✭mykrodot

Pat Kenny is by far the best radio presenter in Ireland, the most articulate, the best researched. I just wish he would take a few days off from Trump bashing. He was obsessed during Trump's first period in office, I thought he would have tempered his opinions a bit, if anything he is worse now and its a pity as it is beginning to take from his appeal.

As a radio presenter he is meant to be objective and balanced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭Cole

Agreed, but what does that have to do with the point we're both commenting on? i.e. a reputable radio presenter seemingly pushing a pretty questionable 'conspiracy theory'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,952 ✭✭✭✭EmmetSpiceland

He did make the point about anonymous Russian gangstars/oligarchs bailing out Trump when he was at his lowest ebb through purchasing, among other things, apartments in his towers.

It's not only Pat to be fair. I'm sure many people are thinking it, but not saying it out load, yet. What other reason does he have to be pivoting towards russia, and away from Canada, Mexico and Europe ? All of this rubbish could be caused by some bad debts to russian banks or a compromising video they have of him.
