Does this disease normally kill people so quick? doesn't seem that long ago he was diagnosed.

RIP Colm Murray, a great man. One of the few fine broadcasters at RTE these days. He'll be sadly missed.

    My condolences.

Really sad, great man and his documentary on MND was brilliant. He'll be sorely missed.

A sad day for Irish journalism; his obvious passion for all sports was evident in everything he did. RIP

Loved his racing, so much so that it was often the leading story on his sports bulletins:

    "And first to racing....."

An absolute gentleman by all accounts, R.I.P. :(

He was diagnosed in 2010. Horrible horrible illness, Jimmy Magees son died from same condition and a lot younger too.

Always remember listening to Colm Murray commentating on the horse racing. Very passionate about it and that definitely showed in his work.

Sad to hear of his passing. :(

In a way I'm happy for him that his suffering is finally over, by all accounts a horrific way to have to go.

An absolute gent and I will always remember his voice. One of the finest sports news reporters especially when you think of the faux passion you see on Sky Sports News you can really appreciate the true love for sport he had. He will be greatly missed.

    RIP

I remember his appearance on The Late Late Show soon after he was diagnosed where he discussed the disease.

Even then, knowing what lay ahead, he spoke with such enthusiasm and dignity about what he still planned to achieve with the time he had left. Really made an impression.

    RIP.

    RIP Colm.
    A true gent.
I hope that there will be a minutes silence at Galways to honour his memory.
A sad day for Irish broadcasting and Irish horse racing.

Not a nice thing to see when you log onto boards.

Was one of the faces and voices of sports in my youth.

    RIP Colm, you've earned it.

Very sad to hear. You could always sense his passion for sport. RIP Colm.

I've got to be honest and admit that when I saw there was a thread to Colm here on After Hours I was a little concerned.

But having read through all the comments here, the fact that there is not even one smart arse remark is a testament to the universal popularity of the man.

    All the best Colm Murray
Free at last from the prison of motor neurone disease.
And to escape during Galway Race Week too.
Couldn't have planned it better - Fair play to you !

I remember he used to still do the sports section on the news even when he was suffering with the disease, very brave thing to do IMO.

A true gentleman by all accounts.
Even if you weren't a horse racing fan, you could tell how much he loved the sport and how he wanted to spread that enjoyment.

    RIP
