    3 city + 3 chelsea players

planning on using wildcard after GW3

    Opinions?

Any thoughts on this? I've got .5 in the bank but don't want to tinker much more. I'm in two minds about the front 3. Thought about Benteke for the DGW but I don't fancy him away to ARS and CHE. Will be keeping an eye on Soldado but not putting him in yet after being burned by new foreign players before. I'm pretty happy to gamble on the Dzeko/Lukaku pairing but I'm not 100% about Giroud

If that's your line-up for gw1, I wouldn't have Baker as first sub, just in case he's used. Gw1 for Villa is horrible. (I'd probably get rid of him altogether).

Also for gw1, I'd swap Coleman out for Collins, Norwich have a good strike force and I would fancy the Hammers to keep a clean sheet at home to Cardiff.

I would downgrade Schneiderlin and upgrade Sessegnon to Mirallas or swap Sessegnon to Nolan as the Hammers have a good few decent early gws.

Since you have .5 in the bank, upgrade Davis to Boruc. Boruc should be first choice at Southampton.

Other than that I like your team.

I explained a lot about my team selection earlier here, but I've made a couple of tweaks:

    076b16800070b115f278a2988201255b.png

The above team is built for the first three weeks, then I will play my wildcard at the international break as always.

At that stage, Manchester United's fixtures get a bit easier and we'll be able to asses how their midfield is shaping up in terms of starters and Rafael will be in contention in the vast majority of teams at the back.

The changes from my previous selections are:

Coleman -> Collins (or similar £4.5m defender): This frees up the £0.5m needed to change Darren Bent to a playable striker, as it seems he won't get his move ahead of week one now and even if he does, wouldn't be fit enough to play much of a role for the first couple of weeks I'd imagine. I'm happy enough to stick with one Everton player for the time being and West Ham have some of the best fixtures in the league to start off. Of course, Collins isn't a nailed on starter, but he kept 9 clean sheets in 21 games last season and I feel he may get the nod. If the indication is that he won't, I'll change him to another £4.5m player from the numerous options such as Mr. Prodston's lover :pac: or Clyne. Thinking about it now it does seem like Turner/Clyne would be a better option than Collins, but a couple of my mates are Hammers so I will see what the think regarding West Ham's starting back four.

Bent -> Aspas: As mentioned above, I can't see Bent playing in gameweek one now or possibly even the following week. Therefore, he's not much good in a three week plan. Aspas has been flying in pre-season according to reports which indicate that he and Coutinho have been Liverpool's best players, and with Suarez banned and Sturridge having missed all the pre-season games so far, it looks like Aspas will have a big role to play early on. I'm eager to take a chance here.

    Plan:

My plan is then to make no transfer for gameweek two. I'm happy enough to roll with the two Chelsea players even if they are away to Manchester United. Hazard is always a threat home or away, regardless of who he's playing, and Chelsea could easily keep a clean sheet. Even if both score 2 points, it's not the end of the world with my other players well poised to put up a decent score. Worst comes to the worst and I have Chester at home to Norwich, or a Palace defender away to Stoke, who I could throw in if Hazard was injured/suspended.

Gameweek three then would see me with two transfers, where I could go with Cech -> Hart therefore doubling up at the back with City defensive cover who play Hull at home, or even take a chance of someone else in goal (Krul at home to Fulham, for example) and switch Hazard to Silva.

    Risk:

Again, it's that Spanish friendly which is frying my brain.

As mentioned before I'd be surprised if City didn't go with Negredo for his debut. They've spent £20m + on an almost 28 year old and for that reason I think will see a lot of game time. With City not in action until Monday night, he'll have a couple of days to rest and recuperate. It is a risk though!

Soldado is similar but if selected he will only have a days rest before playing Palace early on Sunday. I think Spurs will be eager to give him his debut ASAP, but I do think he is more of a risk than Negredo not to play in gameweek one. That said, he'll be in my team all season and I'll chance it.

We'll know more tomorrow anyway when the squad is released. With any luck, neither, or just one, will be selected. Del Bosque has said he will bring a young squad to try out a few players so I might get lucky.

    Overall:

Quite happy, and there's some potential there for good returns over the three weeks before my wildcard is put to use. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and go with the two Spanish guys from the off.

I only really focus on my private leagues, and despite being quite a way back after missing the boat on Hazard, Ivanovic and Michu last year, I managed to pull it back relatively quickly so I wouldn't be worried if I fell too far behind early on due to the two strikers not playing straight away.

    My main questions would be:

    1) Which £4.5m defender would you go with? Prodston, I know your answer already :pac: But in all seriousness, if Collins isn't going to start then Norwich's fixtures look the best for defenders in that price range IMO.

    2) Where do you think I could improve and what would you do differently, baring in mind that this is a team mainly for three weeks and will be re-assessed come the international break.

    Thanks :)

very similar team and plan to myself. However I dont have negredo but I would say with city not playing till the monday night I really dont think the spain game will have any effect on his chances of being selected. You could do mertesacker to coleman and collins to Rat. Im with you on the west ham defensive coverage they have 3 decent opening games. Rat seems to be first choice left back.

Paul D: nice team and post.

One thing is that you will only have two players playing at home GW2.

I just like more home-away balance, not really logical!

Very good point actually and something I hadn't considered which is odd given I usually look at the fixture rotations. Given I'm only planning for three weeks it seems I have neglected that when choosing my team.

    Cheers.

@Paully D: There's more to me than just my love of Mickey you know  :pac: I like Collins and if I thought he'd start he'd be in my squad no questions asked but for the first 3 weeks it may be a risk. Otherwise it's a very good team for the first 3 weeks, even as Moreau pointed out about away fixtures in GW 2. The opposition aren't any great shakes bar Chelsea's trip to United so I wouldn't worry too much.

I think everything will be a lot clearer after the weekend as we'll have the final pre-season games played and have Spain's squad announced

    Gerard or Couthino?

I'm thinking of going against the general trend here and putting Dawson in instead of Coleman. Spurs have decent enough fixtures at the start of the season. Does anyone know if he'll get a lot of game time though?

    Gerard or Couthino?

Gerrard for me. Same price but he has the advantage of taking virtually all placed kicks.

Looking to get involved with this thread this year. Lurked around on it last year a bit and ended up in the top 5000 last year going by bits mentioned on here.

Team so far. Think it's a bit weak at the back so looking for suggestions.... :)
    Cech
    Mertesacker Coleman Baker
    Hazard Walcott Mirallas Morrison
    Dzeko Lukaku Van Persie

    Davis, Wilson, Turner, Brady

0.5 left spare to switch Lukaku to Soldado after GW 1

Think Vert is an injury doubt, so he should be good for at least the first gameweek or two.

Damn it I can't stop changing my team..

    OLD TEAM:
    ffj0.png

    NEW TEAM:
    d8ub.png

So as you can see a few changes made..

-Cech out in favour of Mignolet and Boruc which allowed me to bring Terry in defence.. Coleman got benched because of this but is a greaqt backup in case Terry doesn't actually play

-Coutinho out, Nani in.. Moyes seems to really like Nani and I am very confident he will have a fantastic season this year.. Apparntly the board offered him out to Monaco and Moyes snapped

-Wolf out, Dzeko in.. After changing around subs and what not I free'd up 0.5 to afford Dzeko over the Wolf.. Considered Aspas but Dzeko has been banging them in so far.. Can see myself bringing in Aspas / Berba / The Wolf eventually

-Subs have changed to Morrisson and Chambers..

I'm still not convinced on Soldado - by trading down to Giroud I can bulk up the rest of my team a bit. FFS have a good article on him here.

As for Ravel Morisson - does he look like he'll play? I know he's banged in a few pre-season, could even be West Hams top goalscorer over the Summer. If he plays hes a steal at £4.5m

what is holding you back on soldado?
About morrison does he play centre midfield, wide or off the front man.

Ah well in fairness if you are WC GW3 it is not really important!

Ok this team is going against the tide, but I actually like it a lot:

    Cech(vc)
    Coleman Toure Rat
    Miralles Coutinho Bale Hazard(c) Walcott
    Rodriguez Giroud

    (4 cheap subs)

    1. I know there is loads of strikers but there is nearly too much! Also a lot of them are new to PL(which I admit could go either way) and/or subject to rotation. At least these two guys are nailed as things stand. I have focused on midfield, if Bale is around there is no way I will be leaving him out! He will get the armband GW2+4.
    2. Gw2 - Cech to Hart, Gw3 - Hazard to Silva/Navas
    3. WC held, prob til GW6

I know little about him, and he's arrived a little late in the Summer so we haven't seen him gelling with the team yet like Bony, Anelka and The Wolf.

Do Spurs have any more friendlies that he can play in before next Saturday? Spurs have some great fixtures to start, but this Bale thing needs to get sorted ASAP. Giroud is looking really good for £1m less, and Arsenals fixtures are pretty good too.

As for Morrison - I'm not doubting his ability, he can clearly score goals. It's just whether or not people think he will be given much gametime. If he's a regular he becomes a must have at £4.5. Could be this year's Sterling.

Foster - Why? He won't be the main keeper so will more than likely get rotated a lot
    McNaughton - Why?
    Taylor - Why?
    Baker - Why?
Carrick - Why? Don't get me wrong he's a great player but in FF he doesn't score very highly.. All depends on if Utd sign a big DM then Carrick will be given more a free role and hopefully start scoring points.. but until then i would avoid him
    Whittaker - Why?
    Delph - Why?
    Blake - Why?

For me soldado bony and the wolf have great stats but there are a few big differences. Soldado scored his goals in a superior league and has played for the best international team around. Also he will be playing for a spurs team that should score about 20 more goals throughout the season compared to norwich and swansea. TBH I havent seen much of all 3 strikers but would feel more confident talking a punt on soldado assuming he starts tomorrow. Regarding giroud ye he has 7 goals in pre season but 5 of them game in the first 2 games when arsenal scored 14 goals against mediocre opposition.
Morrison is very appealing especially with west hams start.

To be honest I think hes a top quality player, saying that even as a Utd fan, he had the second most crosses of any player in Europe last season which I think will lead to numerous assists for Negredo/Dzeko, hes lighting quick also which will give City more of a threat on the break which they never had before! Only thing going against it for me is that hes in Spain squad for that friendly in Equador next week and he has history of home sickness problems! Was him or taking a chance on Kagawa for me, will wait and see if Kag is picked by Moyes on Sunday before deciding for sure!

I'm assuming you've mixed up Soldado and Negredo! I think I'll go with Soldado anyway, seems the safest bet in the £9m+ range. My bench is weak, but that's what you get when you spend the absolute bare minimum (£16.5m). Means a cracking first 11 though. I'm still wary of Hazard and Lukaku based on recent Spanish team info, and Bale can obviously still come along and ruin everything. Still don't think you will see many stronger teams than this for GW1.
