Is there not a way that the Irish people (if they can stop sniping at each other long enough) can take some sort of a class action suit (I know they don't exist here and they're usually for compensation but individuals acting together) demanding the revelation of names, loans and withdrawals etc of the whole financial imbroglio?

Or even some huge indication of everyone's dissatisfaction with the whole situation - a national sitdown/stand up/shout out or whatever someone can come up with which won't disrupt business as usual longer than 1 minute, along the lines of Earth Hour - Ireland's Minute perhaps. I'm so tired of feeling that I don't count and I'm sure the rest of the country except those at the top that are guilty of this mess feel the same way and would like a way to 'voice' it. Maybe on Arthur's Day at 17.59 we could all dress in black with white hats and spill a glass of the black stuff on the ground. Anything, anything at all just to make that collection of shites realise that 4.5M pissed off people would like to smack them in the chops. I'd love if they slept as badly for just one night as I do every night.

Look, I'm going to tell you something.

Large scale apathy exists throughout Irish society. People just don't fcuking care about what happens here in this country and the power class that has been created coming from the politicial establishment. People just don't care or they are just too stupid to understand or too greedy only whining when a few euro will be removed of their dole or welfare payments or a new tax has formed.

That photo of Seanie Fitz smiling while reaching into his breast pocket, and "Drummer" rubbing his hands with glee seems so appropriate.

There's probably a better chance or Ian Paisley becoming the next pope than the banksters and their cronies getting jailed in this rotten corrupt basket case of a country. The politicians of Fianna FAIL and the blue shirts are up to their necks in it.

The Village magazine was due to do that this month (start prosecutions themselves, if the DPP don't), but they may have been scared off of it (originally saw that here, which is also a very good and relevant article).

I would personally think, that this is something anyone should be able to justify (to themselves and others) protesting over, if they were properly informed and aware of the full meaning of this, and the extent of the probable corruption.

And they were consistently re-elected by the gob****es of this country.

No names or faces to this story, nothing but the name of the central bank, which has been proven in the past to be run by idiots.

Has there being a massive change of personnel in the central bank over the last seven years or is the same people working there? ......that don't want it to be proven they were hood winked.

Maybe the public apathy to this story is well founded, there's not the will nor the ability to go after the bankers by the people in power. And the people in power where in opposition during this, so this tells me they are all up to there necks in it and won't rock the gravy train.

We need some decent journalist in this country.

If what happened in Anglo is not illegal that means that the published accounts of any Irish company aren't worth the paper they are written on (be and breakfast arrangements) also share values could be totally false,(loans to buy shares). How about making such thinks illegal if they are not already?

Aren't we paying billions to hedge funds for unsecured bonds to "protect our reputation" there are two things that would increase our reputation and cost a fraction of the price to implement.

And the powers that be will hope that this will be the final nail in this story.

    They really have some neck.

    PS

I did say if we can stop sniping at each other and your reply contained nothing but that.

Can we not stop it long enough to achieve a united front on something that most of us would like to see happen - after that then we can go back to calling each other gob****es, stupid, lazy, whiny etc, or maybe after that, just maybe, we might discover that those of us in financial trouble are not as feckless as thought and those that are as secure as anyone can be at the present time are not as smug either and that we don't need to this and them amongst ourselves.

Did we not learn anything from the overly long British occupation of Ireland?

Stop the in-fighting just long enough to achieve a common goal. I'm sure that revolutionaries during the American War of Independence or the French Revolution didn't all agree on the one set of goals or ideals but they bloody well pulled together when it counted and argued the toss later.

Up for anything - I didn't mean to cause any offence or anything else. Believe me, I'm on your side.

I wrote it like it is. Any time in the real world I speak about politics or take an interest in the news and perhaps point out another wrong from the government, I'm quickly to fcuking hell silenced. Told to shut up or relax (even though I woukdn't be stressed). People don't care about what happens. It's just a select few on boards and other online forums.

Because the government was incompitant. Noting illegal to prosecute. The Anglo guys knew that even the CB and FR were clueless. Even simple clauses in the guaratee would have avioded this mess.

I'm pretty sure that any contract entered into based on false information is null and void, as a bare minimum.

If I'm not wrong, it's also illegal to falsify accounts?

Thanks but no offence taken. :)

Nearly everybody I speak to these days has something to complain about and will at length but the feeling is that there is no umbrella under which to gather and vent. The greater good will only come about when individuals feel they are being listened to and taken into account and then they will look at their neighbour's situation and act for them too. Some I know has joined their local Independent Resistance and the apathy she seems to be facing is staggering but I reckon that is because the list of causes under the IR don't affect a lot of people so they can't be arsed. However, if just one of their own worries was listed under it there may be a good chance that they would get involved.

I walked in a protest march last Saturday supporting the Campaign to Complete Kilkenny Ring Road. About 1,000 people turned out which was a good showing and there was lots of instant support but Kilkenny city has a population of 20K plus - where the feck were they? A platoon of Storm Troopers would have been handy to clear the pubs and shops and get bodies out for 15 minutes. A bit of fresh air would have done them no harm - it was a lovely day. :D Sadly the protest hasn't dented the council's intent but surely they couldn't have ignored 15,000 turning out and there was no good reason that that people couldn't. They'd turn out to a match in Nolan Park quick enough.

What's needed is a charismatic 'revolution/revulsion' leader with the ability to woo the Irish people to her/his way but unfortunately we wouldn't trust Nelson Mandela, Ghandi, Daniel O'Connell and especially not Jesus Christ if any of them turned up now as we'd know they had an agenda and might want to line their pockets (if FG leave any lining lying around). Maybe I'll place an ad on adverts.ie asking for one. :D I almost feel moved myself to take it on but I have a very thin skin under my thick outer one and not enough teeth left to bite with.

    [/naive soapbox rant]

Jesus lads are you all brain-dead?
RTE are obviously forbidden by the Govt from reporting on this. They are part of the current problem i.e. bought and paid for.

    Government = Banks.

For the privalage of such a service you have to pay for it in the form of a tv license. Decide to revolt and not pay - go to prision.
Get rid of your tv in protest and legitimately have no device to pay a license for - well, you're paying anyways with a broadcasting charge.

That sums it up nicely. Sometimes this country feels like a giant open air asylum. 5 years on and nothing has happened to the greedy idiots that bankrupted a whole nation.

seeing as it is in the news again today.. (although it has been over-shadowed by Garda bugging malarkey)
Former Anglo chairman Sean FitzPatrick told gardaí that the bank's chief executive David Drumm rarely sought advice as he wanted to show "he was very independent" of him.

Mr FitzPatrick told investigators in 2010 that he "was never involved in any executive discussions" as the CEO "needed" to let the bank's executives know that "he was the man in charge".

    Unsurprising, unfortunately.

Drumm will undoubtedly prove to be beyond reach, and justice (golden circle style) will be alleged to have been served!

it looks as if that is the way its shaping up. Quickest and least complicated way out. Keep it out of the main headlines... the public have forgotten.

It seems as if the Indo have also forgotten.. it would be a start if they could get his name right.
