The Government should not be allowed to dictate what happens with this inquiry.
They were silent for so long and denied knowing about the tapes.
Does anyone seriously believe that the Garda Commissioner who is their appointed puppet didn't inform Shatter and his buddies about their existence and content?. Not a chance. (Remember Wallace's penalty points)
They were obviously hoping the media wouldn't get wind of the tapes and I wonder why ;)

someone was saying they only have 7 years to initiate legal proceedings, hence why the government tried to keep these tapes under wraps for so long, time is nearly out now

It's just as likely that this has been deliberately leaked now to take the limelight off something else about to break, or an excuse for the government to try pushing through the defeated referendum on political investigations again

Almost nothing would surprise me about the morally bankrupt cesspool we call a country at this stage.. you're either in it up to your neck or paying for it in the neck

They are protecting people in the civil service, regulator and central bank. watch vincent browne the national treasury management agency (NTMA) stopped dealing with anglo in 2006 so it was no secret that they were gangsters. The yanks called Ireland the "wild west" of finance. The people in power were not tricked by these guys they were involved with them. the old brown envelope!

Maybe this is coming as a shock to me as I'm youngish and this is the first kind of scandal that I've paid much attention to really. I really had no idea that their antics were so blatant and very much intentional. This week has certainly given me an education on the debt of my own naivety!

What did it cost RTE for this clown to act like a Guynaecologist interviewing drummer through the letter box

Never mind what it cost, they should send him back every week, even get him to camp out in the street. Pester the bloody rat till he no longer feels safe in his own home and moves. Then follow him and do the same. If we can't have him rotting in the Joy at least we should make every effort to make his life a living hell.

Anyone any idea how or why the phone calls were recorded ?

Yep, it's part of the former national anthem.

it’s actually the first verse of today’s national anthem, i.e. of the same song, which is never sung due to, as mentioned by someone around here, alleged ties to darker chapters in german history…which is a tad odd considering the anthem is actually from the 19th century…in today’s germany they only use the 3rd verse as official national anthem...

It would not take time for that clown to work up enough expenses to blot out what drummer done away with. What was the cost of the Amazon trip. $hit happens but the protected are cushioned. Gaybo. Mike Murphy, the clown we are posting about, too tired to come up with some of the other parasites.

An oireachtas inquiry is a ****ing major no no.we need an independent european body of inquiry headed by Eva Joly . if they get an oireachtas inquiry they can get immunity which means they get away with what they have done . Its our future at stake ...we need young people to care sign n share my petition and it could change something with enough signatures im not asking you to go on a march im asking to take 2 seconds and press buttons while you sitting on this . I care about my children who will have to pay and they are not even born yet lets try make a change and be heard ....
PLEASE SIGN THE PEITION AND SEND IT ON SO OTHERS CAN TO

    http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/Want_an_Independent_European_body_of_inquiry_to_investigate_Banking_scandal_in_Ireland_1/?copy

Your 10 signatures away from reaching your target, probably achieved by the time I post this, though I must strongly disagree with asking the EU, we should clean up our own **** on this one and The Gardaí are our Guardians, we the people should be strengthening our relationship with them by placing faith in asking them to complete a thorough criminal investigation.

yeah....but you know what, I'd gladly pay a higher TV license if I knew that the increase went towards making sure Seanie, David and the boys never got a good nights sleep again.

Always wondering who's lurking outside, looking over their shoulders, worried about starting the car, wondering about the new neighbours etc. etc. etc.

Think of the creepiest ****ed up psychological thriller you can think of and that is what I wish on these guys. Killing is actually to good for them, I'd like to see them turned into nervous wrecks afraid to leave their own homes, shaking in the corner of the basement like rainman.

(yes I am very very angry)

*ALL* calls to the phones in certain departments in ALL banks are recorded for regulatory purposes and to ensure accuracy as they're used for making contracts over the phone.

The guys in the tapes were either oblivious to that or just didn't ever think those recordings would ever leave the four walls of the bank and that they were 100% in control of them.

There was nothing secret or unusual about the recordings and the phones were most certainly not tapped. They were just extracted from a server somewhere I assume.

Sadly I'm not expecting it, I'd like for it to happen though.

Maybe rather than asking the EU for help we should just ask ANONYMOUS, they seem to have a way of getting to the bottom of things rather swiftly if they put their minds to it.

He has refused to comment on the tapes and on the executives that are on the tapes and that were still working alongside him in the IBRC.

And he had NO idea what was going on
He is probably too busy counting his pension to comment. GGGRRR, makes me so angry. The phrase 'Evil thrives when good men do nothing' comes to mind. I use the term 'good' loosely. Dare he come out now and try to defend the indefensible.

Anybody watching VinnieB tonight. There's a lady hosting it. Its about mortgage arrears and new regulations to give the banks more powers.

Some guy on it saying that there are approx 124,00 mortgage arrears and its his opinion that 20 or 30 or 40% of those are geniune cases and that the rest are playing the system and the new regulations will catch those out.

And yet, the banks played us. For Billions.

Edit: our government can introduce legislation for this but can't for catching bankers up to their necks in fraud.

Yeah I don't know why they are censoring the clips. It's so important the country should hear everything. At least Matt Cooper plays the tapes in full.

The tapes are a severe embarrassment to the top people in RTE, they borrowed and bought, through Anglo, check them out. This boosts Quinns legal battle, it confirms he was dealing with crooks with government backing. What rolls down the road from here, a lot of scum will loose a fortune. Let it roll.

I bet the government instructed them to lose the story......... they know who pays the bills

As the Irish State lacks law sufficient to prosecute them we need to call on Europe to prosecute them. After all it is not just the Irish Tax Payer that is paying for their contemptible behaviour. There should be no quarter given. If they were Icelandic or American they'd be in jail. If they were Greek they'd be in fear of their lives!

Anglo's loans to Sean Quinn were in clear breach of Sec 60 of the Company's Act, you can't lend money for the purpose of share support of your company. The loans should be made void as they were illegal, but unfortunately the taxpayer will foot the entire bill.
