At roughly 850m from the cabinet, on a rate adaptive profile, so rate will change up and down slightly at various times of the day (in response to changes in SNR?), been rock solid for me since it was installed though.

You're on a 40Mb profile, so the rate adaption wont change it. If it was 50RA then you'd bounce around 42-44Mb.

Upstream could be struggling a little.

Now that I think about it I think the VF tech did tell me that I'm on 50RA, anyway it changed again this evening a little for the better.

My Vodafone fibre broadband disconnects several times a day. I have noticed that with my security ip camera and other items they register the disconnects by emailing me. Does anyone have this same issue? Or any ideas what might be causing it? It doesn't appear to be the modem as I have already had one replacement modem.

Post up your line stats and maybe someone might be able help you

Happy days! Rang Eircom tech support and got my profile bumped up. Vectoring was enabled on my local cabinet recently. Was on the up to 50 package previously and getting 48 Mb/s down from that. In Dundalk.

Upstream maxing out at 12 when it should be 20, there's an issue somewhere in your loop. Call vodafone and have them send a tech to check out your line.

If you wanted to too, before you call, remove any phone handsets connected and reboot it, see if it goes up to 20. A shorting unit can cause upstream to plummet the odd time.

The upstream had been resolved for a while and was hitting 18mbps but that fix appears to have been short lived:(

I have no handsets just the modem plugged into the fibre socket.

Technicians from KN have been out three times already and found no fault, they told me if they are called out again I will be charged upwards of €400.

if the junction boxes and ducting outside was flooded with water a few years ago would that effect the lines?

It definitely could. If you call their tech and ask them to do a phone line test it'll show any leakage between the two legs of the pair, should be pretty obvious to them. Otherise they'll need to drop you to like 40Mb downstream to stabilize it.

If knn keep failing to solve it insist that they request an eircom technician.

I am going to contact Vodafone about it soon and have already told them what the technicians told me about charging me, so I will refuse any further visits from technicians and leave it completely up to Vodafone to resolve. If they can't I will ask ComReg to intervene.

Here's mine. Got the eFibre installed a couple of weeks ago and I'm very happy with it. My upload is now faster than my old download (used to be 5Mb down). I'm exactly 1km from the cabinet. How do I find out if vectoring is enabled at the cab?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭AlanS181824

Both my Downstream SNR and Upstream SNR are both 13.6

It's almost as if my stats are getting worse and worse the more people are connected to the cabinet I'm on.

    Downstream CRC 0
    Upstream CRC 1
    Downstream FEC 10547
    Upstream FEC 10268

not great at all:( cant even watch anything on Netflix or now TV, it continually buffers.

Here is a chart showing my upload speeds since 23rd July to today and it shows that I was getting much higher speeds for a few weeks without any issues at all so someone is screwing around with my speeds!!

    320972.png

Wired connection just now and speeds are still less than I should be getting!

Here are my latest stats and just got more information on why I can't get closer to 20mbps upload,

Reason 1, at 255metres away from the cabinet I am only ever going to get 12.5-13mbps despite getting a very steady 18.4mbps for a few weeks last month.

Reason 2, Vodafone only guarantee Download and will not guarantee any upload speeds.

Reason 3, Although the download is working at almost 90% of attainable the upload is only at 60% or less but this is due to more people signing up to fibre on the same cabinet.
    3747230503.png
    321542.png

Can anyone tell me roughly how many people would have to sign up and be connected on my cabinet to account for an increase from 13mbps to 18.4mbps on 4th August then drop off to 11.5-12mbps from 22nd August? There are only a handful of houses covered by the cabinet and many of them have mobile broadband.

I'd hazard a guess that its a dud cable bundle. Upload can go a little "wonky" when vectoring is applied, but they should be able to fix it.

The cabs have 190 ports and shouldnt have an issue supporting that many lines. You will see a drop off if you are one of the first users jumpered over but a drop of that much is excessive.

You can get 50_20 at 400m+ so its not distance.

Id be interested to see what stats you'd get with an eircom F1000 on the line vs the Huawei, especially an unbranded one with the new firmware.

Apparently i have to wait until the end of the year for a prequal to be carried out on our cab before i can get an updated profile :(

I think vf are telling you rubbish. I'm approx 550m from the cab and I'm on the 70/20 profile with 66/19 regularly achieved in speedtests.

There are 40 addresses in the estate maybe ten of those empty and many of them are on mobile broadband.

Could I use any eircom fibre modem or does it have to be unbranded? Is unbranding easy to do? I can probably get a eircom modem to test.

all the cables along the path outside were flooded a couple of years ago for a couple of months and might also have frozen up because a water valve burst going into a house and flooded the eircom box beside it. Are eircom responsible for checking and repairing if any damage was done?

Its quite possible other main cables crossover at that point, a cab can feed a few separate estates. I dont know the area so you'll know yourself if there are other premises in the vicinity.

The unbrand is just as a poster in another thread was reporting much better sync speeds after unbranding. Any eircom Fiber modem would do.

Thats your problem right there, Id put money on it. Youre getting current leakage between pairs. If they look closely at the PSTN tests theyll see it. If theres an issue with a main cable pair its up to eircom wholesale to fix it(replace it). As its not severely damaged you'll probably have to kick up a fuss to get it done.

The cab is carlow_077a if that makes any sense. Located at beech road behind house number 1 and I'm 255meters from it as the cable lies. There are no other houses around on this side of the railway line.

I can get myself an eircom modem on adverts for testing. And keep records of my speeds which is conveniently done for me by the Sam Knows survey on my line.

I still can't believe Vodafone haven't sorted this out for you yet.

I'm around the same metres away and I can get 18Mb so it must be the cabinet.

I know the estate in question now but I still haven't a clue why you're having these issues in the first place.

Definitely let us know how ye get on if ye do get an Eircom Fibre modem.

Yeah, you're right there, that cabs gonna be empty. Not even worth putting more than a few cards in there.

You shouldnt really have to buy one, vodafone should have sorted it by now, but if you're interested in playing with it could be informative to see which unit gets more out of the poor line.

It's nothing to do with the number of customers. Something up with that upload.

Just recently installed. I thought the download would be a bit higher being c. 500m from the cab, but it's miles ahead of what I used to have. It this as close to the attainable as I'd get?

Your stats are almost identical to mine both of us being the same distance from our cabs. Eircom put me on a 70/20 ra profile and I regularly get 66/19 in speedtests. I got my profile changed via their Web chat, much easier than ringing.

Grand, I'll try that then and see what they say

Got onto the webchat there. They said 50 is the highest profile my line can take. Perhaps vectoring isn't yet enabled as the cab was only commissioned two weeks ago?

I think the Actual INP increases to 29 or 30 symbols when vectoring is enabled.
