I am still on NGB. Have been following this tread with interest. A couple of questions.

Can EIRCOM dictate the speeds provided to others?

    Or

Are non Eircom providers unable to provide speeds which they advertise?

According to a recent article I believe published by "Silicon Republic", ISP on average only supply about 75/80 % of the published speeds.

Please forgive me if I am on the wrong forum for these question
Technically speaking they can't, they would get into serious trouble with ComReg and the EU if they did.

But strangely enough if you compare Eircom 100/20 with Vodafone 100/20 the downloads might be genuinely the same but for some reason Eircom always seems to have a higher upload.

Now this is just what I've noticed but can maybe a few people with Vodafone/Eircom 100/20 help me?

Do a speed test wired on the Carlow server and the Dublin server hosted by Vodafone if possible.

Be great to see and compare them.

Thought that . But, when I compare speeds with friends. There always appears to be better on one side or the other with the said provider.

    thanks for that

Modem has been on for 41 days straight now.

I'm wondering does that effect speed in any way?

Are you supposed to leave it on 24/7 or would it be advised to reboot every now and then?

No need to reboot em. A good router wont memory leak and essentially dont care how long theyve been up.

Here are my stats compared if I connect the modem at my main socket my the door vs upstairs in the ideal location.

Is it worth moving it down the stairs as you can see there is a slight increase in line stats.

Note: im on a 50mb package at the moment but moving to a rate adaptive.

For less than 4mb I wouldn't, unless it becomes unstable.

ya didnt think it was worth it.

Might compare again once vectoring is enabled. At the moment all I have is INP enabled which brought my ping down to <10ms but dragged my attainable down from 75Mb to 59Mb.

    How do you enable INP?

    Here are my current stats:

    Downstream line rate (kbit/s) 40960
    Upstream line rate (kbit/s) 10240
    Downstream SNR (dB) 16.3
    Upstream SNR (dB) 17.7
    Downstream line attenuation (dB) 17.3
    Upstream line attenuation (dB) 6.4

Not sure if there is room for me to push to move from my current 40/10 profile, I asked some weeks ago, and was told to call again in a month.

Theres's loads. 10db is fine, you're at 16, that means you x4 stronger than the recommended minimum. Get them to set you to 50Mb.

Will try for the craic. I'd be more interested in higher upload speeds than the download speeds.

Have you got TV from eircom?

Either way 50/15 or 50/16 will most likely work. So a good few megs extra up.

Nah, no Eircom TV services. All internet.

I'll call them and see what they say if I get a chance tomorrow.

Here are my latest stats for my wired connection on 100/20 with Vodafone and located less than 250m from cabinet.

Vodafone tell me the reason I can't get the full 20Mbps upload is due to reflection from the cabinet because I am so close:(

Your stats are good and that sounds like bull. Id lean towards an intermittent fault with the drop lowering your sync speed.

I'm really caught between a rock and a hard place as Vodafone's only response is to send out the Eircom technicians yet again who have stated to me that if they are called out again they will be charging ME upwards of €400.

I don't think they've any right to do this as they are paid by Vodafone through Eircom for the call out charge.

If I was a KN Engineer and I was called out to a job where everything was working perfect I would be more than happy to visit! :pac:

I think you may have just gotten a hormonal technician!

I'm about 350m from the cabinet and vectoring hasn't been enabled yet.

My reasonably good upload attainables suggests there's a fault on my line because the download should be higher.

Its that Days/Hours/Mins or Hours/Mins/Secs ? if the latter then the FEC rate is a bit high for 30 mins, have it checked out.

    Ton of FEC errors there.

I should have rebooted the router. I didn't notice it had been on for 8 days straight before I took that screenshot. Attainable upload improved so I know my line isn't too long.

Would my profile be a candidate for an upgrade?

    5lz9tx.png

seem to have a very disproportionate upload vs download

    I hate my neighbours!

More and more of them are ditching UPC for Eircom/Vodafone and I see my attainables fall bit by bit each time...

    .....:pac:

Just had vectoring go live on my cabinet last night.

Attainables have jumped from 55 to 79 with a SNR bump from 11 to 18.

Just need to get connected to the right port on the cabinet now so I can actually authenticate and use my internet.

It looks like system level vectoring has been enabled. My cab is enabled as well. SNR went up from 18.6 to 29.8, but profile on eircom gateway has not been updated yet.
