Love them or hate them, there's a few 6301's up with long NCT's for under €5,000. This 07 one is from a dealer, don't know them though. NCT to the end of the year, €4,950.

This 2005 one has an NCT to 09/21 for €4,500. Nice wheels, new tyres, check the brand to see how well it was looked after.

    I like them.

Before Christmas there was a manual one in cork for sale for €2900 it was marked trade sale only but I think it had a bit of test on it. Interesting car being a manual.

They're supposed to be a bast4rd to insure, I'm near certain it was EricCartman on here that couldn't get a quote for love nor money on a 645i or 650i a year or two ago.

    They're rare enough.

    None of either on Donedeal.

I had one from 2016-2018 , first year it was 1900 to insure, the second year 2200, the third year uninsurable.

that was manually converted because the auto box in them is chocolate, the auto box went in mine and I couldn't get a replacement and wasn't going to make the money back on the 2k it was going to cost to recondition only to have an uninsurable car again.

Great car to drive but the gearbox is a killer.

    There's this 645i on donedeal.ie for €4,950, but it's had no test for a year so I didn't post it. https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-6-series-645ci-coupe/20984521

    There's this 2004 645i with a test to July, but it's €8,950. https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/bmw-6-series-645-2004-0ne-owner-low-miles/27161710

the gearbox error is on the cluster in the first one :pac:
that second one is a dreamer. I paid less than that for a 1 owner 645 in beshoff motors 4 and a bit years ago and it had twice the spec and half the miles.

The 630i is the red headed child of those 6 series.

    Yok.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭Harcrid

That first one is for sale at that same price from the same dealer for the guts of 2 years now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,661 ✭✭✭Voodoomelon

Not sure why those 6HPs give trouble in the 6s, they're very reliable in the 5s and 7s. They were also used in bucket loads of Jags and RRs.

its a complete mystery but all I know is none of the other models ones fit in the 6 , so the 6 is the hard to find one, whatever changed in it be it cooling or whatever else must be the Achilles heel that makes them break so much.

I think this was on here not that long ago, the reg looks familiar. Gave it a good clean and polish which is nice, few small marks on it, probably get classic insurance on it too and sell it in a couple of years for no depreciation. Plenty of receipts and €300 of tax on it, so realistically available for under €5K. Has a video as well which is good.

    2001, 740i, NCT 01/22, 2 months tax. €5,500

    Now priced at 6,900?

Odd that it has amber corners for a 2001, I thought they were done away with in early 2000. Reality is E38s probably went up €1k-€2k overnight with Brexit.

Strange Reg. He surely paid for the 750... but on a 740?

I wonder is it your man from Cahir that has the Maybach now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 534 ✭✭✭Ninap

I was tempted at 5k. Less so at 7

Nice looking 460 that isn't silver for a change.

Crazy money at €8k but it looks a good example. Irish car, low owners etc

It's the one thing that would put me off. That reg screams of upbadging.

Disagree. The N52 is a peach of an engine, and lighter than the V8. Still has a decent soundtrack though maybe not as evocative as V8. €300 less tax and in real life it's all you need.

You don't buy a 6 series to sit in traffic listening to an engine offered in the lowly 3 series ;)

That may be what you or I think, but there were a lot of people who bought 630i's new, so not everyone thinks that way.

I mean yeah it's a lovely engine... In other BMWs. I'd rather have any other engine they were offered with... It's totally underwhelming in that car... It weighs as much as a truck.

Point of this thread though, is that not everybody bought them as Luxobarges because (IMO) it doesn't fit the definition.

I somewhat agree, but I guess we're back to that definition again.
Luxobarge for me is 90% wafting at low speed in a big comfy cruiser. Maybe that last 10% is important though -> having the ability to floor it and escape the paparazzi.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭traco

I like a luxobarge with power, they shuould be able to pick up and move without any noticeable strain or fuss. Big power delivered quietly and seemlessly is the reason I have mine.

The N52 in the 730i does 0-62 MPH in 7.8 and tops out at 152 MPH. I think that's reasonable for a barge.:D

I have to stick up for the humble straight six because I came to the conclusion a good while ago that I'm never going to run a V8 as a daily..... unless I relocate:(
