Interesting photo. It looks like God's light is shining down on that Lexus or it's about to ascend into heaven

^^ other than looks and mod cons is there much of a difference between this and the earlier model (comfort, drive and reliability)? I'm considering an 03 with 115k miles. If the above was nearer to me I'd be giving it serious consideration.

I rang him.. 4 owners .. he has it 2 years. He bought it from a doctor (!) . No service history. .
Just been to lexus for a check up and had tyre pressure sensors replaced. Other than that a clean bill of health.

Oh... and he sounded keen to sell...

Question is: are you keen to buy? :p

I have to admit, that GS is lovely. Really good price amd I would be tempted myself, but 20k miles a year in 3L petrol... What mpg could you get out of that yoke? Mid 20 at the push?

I was put off by not having any service history.. Mid 20's mpg I could live with.

Depends on the sort of driving you do. At a constant 100ish I would imagine it would be brushing 30mpg or so. That's based on what the 2.5 166 would do.

Five grand is fairly cheap for one of thse with less than 80s miles up, I should think. NCT'd and all

Wouldn't bother me at all really. Pretty reliable engine to start with and generally speaking big normally breathing engines in big comfy cars have a very easy life

If it looks ok now, it's not likely to go wrong any time soon...

Seller wants you to pay for the chain job he had to carry out - 3400 + 1500 is about the asking price.

So this 'doctor' never had any service record either? And no receipts of the work he's had done over the two years?

Dunno, your call, but I'd only buy a luxobarge when I have a full service record. Lexus is a damn reliable brand, but they can still go wrong and be very costly.

26/27mpg mixed driving, 30ish on a long run - had one for five years!

I get that in pretty much every family size petrol car I've ever had in Dublin traffic :p

Except the old V8s that I had. More like 20mpg average. In summer...

26-30mpg is actually decent! I drive 90% of the time from limerick to North Cork 4-7 days a week to work. Pretty much no city driving and I live very close to motorway.
Maybe I could go petrol after all. So far my first runner up is 2.4 jtdm 159 or 535d. Maybe throw in gs300 in to mix too.

Never drove one but I have been in one. They're fast sure but I'm not sure they are exciting.

IMO power become boring and mundane once you grow used to it. I think this is because you can't make your own "fun" with power. I think a good handling car in infinitely more fun because you can have fun in every twisty section if you want to. :)

I think a 535d (never even been in one) would be good for limerick to cork though. Lots of boring cruising along on open bends, and a few places where you just need copious amounts of power to safely overtake

Would agree with this in part but it's not like a 535d is a poor handling car? Granted I've only ever been in a 335d but boring was the last thing that came to my mind

I think the power would get boring with time.

They're not really a drivers car I don't think, more a couch for sitting in on a motorway.

Any poster on here that had one got bored with them very quickly and moved on.

IMO The not a drivers car stems from how good the e39 was at being a drivers car but I would still say ano e60 535d is more a drivers car then many equivalent cars of the same size and age.

The selling them on could be attributed to the getting bored of any car after a year habbit that some people have. Fellas "bored" of 400bhp evos after a few months etc while they may well be it's generally a poor way of determining how exciting a car is.
Of the other cars put forward gs300 or 2.4d 159 the 535d would be miles ahead in terms of excitement IMO but then again the drawback is they're generally also miles ahead in price too depending on what age bracket is applicable

LOL Mal 6.9 L/100km? You need to put the foot down! I usually got 10ish. What's 6.9 in old money - over 30mpg yeah? In fairness, you got it tuned or something didn't you?

SH I did a lot of city driving - pushing 30mpg should be realistic for you. A 535d would be nice though! Probably a lot more costly to maintain though.

You are aware you are allowed to go over 80km/h in one of these vehicles, Mal? :pac:

That was 110 on cruise with heated seats on plus it was raining so plenty more stuff being used too! The advantage of fuel bonuses at work and training for same I suppose!

every car will be boring in a straight line.
What you want is a nice winding hilly road to make it exciting.
There's a lovely one over past Mitchelstown that goes way up the hills on your way to killmallock, no houses on it so you can rip through it..hard acceleration and braking..a really enjoyable drive. Used to love doing it.
