My point was that the seller could have made a mistake. He never said that the car was taxed, in the ad.

Yeah reading over the ad all he says is test until March so it does seem like a genuine mistake. Overpriced by a good bit without tax though.

You have a point there. Let's give the seller the benefit of the doubt - even though without tax the car is priced far too high :D

If you take into account that the seller has probably built in a bit of wiggle room, and that a LPG conversion would cost approx 1500 euro+ for a V8, the price doesn't seem outrageous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,199 ✭✭✭✭unkel

It's not outrageous, it is still very good value for money. That said, price is the equilibrium between demand and supply. There is still a bit of supply of these kinds of cars, but demand is near zero. Which means the price it will make is likely to be well below his asking price...

It doesn't help that the E65 does not have the same status / cult / following among BMW heads like the E38 (previous model) had...

Yeah in terms of supply there's another similar E65 on dondeal, same year, LPG, similar mileage and NCT and asking is only 4k.

..Not to mention the current Love/Hate 'cool' factor. :D

1500 euro of modifications does not increase a cars value by 1500 euro.
Doesn't matter if it's a facelift body retrofit or an LPG conversion.

I recognise that E38 from somewhere but can't put my finger on it. Was probably up for sale as some point.

.........and only two photos, and a description you could fit on the back of a book of matches,

If you have a car and you want to sell it then advertise it... with pictures and words and descriptions.
All this guy is doing is showing it.

So inspired by this thread I am searching for a nice CL500.

I found two which are both not on donedeal, which are both 'wine' coloured, and which are both 'POA' - which always irritates me.

(Unfortunately I cannot post links despite being a boards member since 2007 :-) )

I emailed both dealers, one is selling a 2002, he called me back inside an hour with a price of around 5K

the other never returned the email so I called him today. I eventually managed to get him to tell me the price over the phone - although it was like pulling teeth. He is looking for €13995 for a 2003 CL500 !!!!

POA on 12 year old CLs is a joke. Maybe if they had delivery mileage, otherwise they're having a laugh.

You have got to be joking me. Nearly 14k is he having a laugh. The car would want to be lined in gold for that price.

In their possible defense, it could be a customer car on consignment and thats the price they want!! It would want to be something special with unique provenance to even get half way to that price.:pac:

It came "from a gentleman in South Dublin who traded it in to me for a nice E-Class" If I recall the sales-pitch accurately - not exactly special for these cars I imagine :-).

    True! :pac:

Considering you could get a 2007 S320 CDI for about 13K, its a bit ambitious.

LS430 €1500, NCT until next May, alloys need a refurb...

Oddly motortax.ie is putting it down as a 2 litre engine though and Cartell.ie puts it's engine size as 1995cc?

    ... or a 2005 Cl500 with similar mileage for 7500 asking

... or interestingly a 2004 CL600 Biturbo V12 (500 or so HP, only about 200 made per year) with similar mileage for 10K

I don't know is it kerbing or just corrosion I suppose kerbing helped in any case it's great value at that price especially being taxed as a 2.0.

As far as I know this is the way they oxidise, known issue with them, can't really tell though as pics are so bad.
