Yesterday we went to a family occasion and after much discussion we decided that we would bring him with us. Getting ready to go was like packing up to go out with a baby! We had to take his bed, food, bowls, medicines, treats, and blankets! Never knew it would turn into such an occasion.
It was also the longest car journey he was on since we got him almost 15 years ago!

    1. Was an absolute trooper on the journey home to our house from the breeders - didn't pee, poo, or puke. Major Relief
    2. Little puppy snore noises. My heart might explode from the love-overload.

First time he hiccuped when I was hugging him I actually thought "uh oh ... I've broken the puppy!".

I wish I could post pictures but I'm only a newbie so if won't let me upload them! I keep looking for threads in other forums to contribute to so that I'm not just spamming this forum!

My two dogs were laying sleeping in front of the stove with my 16 month old girl playing in the room, she crawled out into the hallway and a couple of seconds later one of the dogs ran out after her, probably thinking there might be some food going. The other dog seen this and raced out after the first dog, then stood between the first dog and my daughter, facing the first dog. I think he though the other dog had ran AT my daughter (but hadn't) and he was going to protect her.

I posted this in the parenting forum and then some kind poster directed me to here. I never knew this thread existed but I'm sure of two things 1) I'll have a lot of fun reading this thread and 2) I think I'll be posting a lot :)

I don't have children but I do have two parrots (Charlie and Ruby) and sometimes they come out with the funniest things. I didn't know where else to post this but I had to share it somewhere :)

Ruby came to me from a male owner who used to get annoyed when she'd try and bite him and he'd say various things like "don't be bold", "you're very bold" and if she was really annoying him, he'd add "fcuking bitch". He wasn't aggressive with her in case anyone thinks he was, it's just his manner of talking.

Anyways, it turns out she didn't just learn to repeat what he said but she also learned the context. Whenever I'm doing something she doesn't like (usually cleaning her cage) she says "you're very bold". The first time she said it, I thought it was random but I soon learned. One day I was really getting on her nerves and she raised her voice and said "YOU'RE VERY BOLD, FCUKING BITCH":D I couldn't stop laughing, which annoyed her even more and she started huffing and puffing like a person!

You haven't lived until you've been called a fcuking bitch by a pissed off parrot :pac:

I brought Lily and Jamie for a walk today. This is their fourth time on the lead and every other time they have hated it. Today they loved it and couldn't wait to get out. There were no toddler tantrums where they throw themselves on the ground and I feel like a bad person for basically dragging them behind me. They had a good run around in the park and the only problem I had was when we got back to my house they didn't want to go in! When we got to the door they started pulling back on the lead and to me this is major progress :)

A funny thing Butch does every day is use 'Distraction Teddy'. When I arrive in from work the three of them, Butch, Dexter and Cassidy all want to eat me alive with kisses. The other two just run straight for me and start jumping for a kiss. Butch grabs the 'Distraction Teddy' and pretends to start playing with it. As soon as this gets the other two dogs attention and they leave me and make a beeline for the teddy, Butch drops it and leaves them to it, does this smile/grimace thing, does a horsey kind of dressage canter towards me, and thus gets my undivided attention for a few precious moments while the other two are distracted by the teddy. Its the only time Butch ever pays any attention to that Teddy. Couldn't care less where it is or who has the rest of the time but its the first thing he looks for when I walk in the door.

Another thing he does is distract them from their food. They aren't food aggressive in anyway and will often share their food but sometimes they will block one of the others from eating from their bowl. If Butch is determined to have some, he'll run outside and bark like their is an intruder, the other two run out to help defend the territory and then Butch sneaks back inside to nosh on their grub while they are otherwise occupied.

We've always also called him Teddy Bear Butch which is fitting as he really is 'Smarter than the average Bear!"

    :D:D

Butch is obviously of superior intelligence
Is he the 'boss' amongst the 3 in general? Do the other 2 defer to his leadership skills!?
It would be interesting to see when/if the other two cotton on to these tactics and not be suckered (or if they are very thick :D like my young dog who would always be bamboozled by very intelligent Pepper)

When I get home our 'special needs' dog (i.e. thick!) will come see who is arriving, then races off to find his teddy before he will start moaning and groaning in delight that you have come home - regardless of how long you have been gone - minutes or hours!

Our little one is like this. When she is going anywhere with us she has to bring a toy or something with her. If I say "peepees!" to her she will run and grab the first toy she can find and then go oout and do ahem...peepees with the toy in her mouth. Same if she is going in the car. Grab a toy and run!

My dogs have always liked their 'teddies' (being JRTs I suppose) but our current youngest dog is obsessive about them - he goes everywhere with one in his mouth, I buy them for 20c in a charity shop - some he rips to shreds and carries the 'rag', others he will keep intact for ages!

Ive discovered Tux our kitten (not so kitteny any more I suppose) LOVES water! Im sick of the mess of her splashing in the dogs waterbowl, so Ive set her up with a 'swimming pool' in the utility :D there is lino on the floor there, so she can mess all she likes - Ive put things floating in it (its a shallow basin/tray) and theres water everywhere! I dry her off after her swimming session & mop up the flood - its sad being a cat-slave really :o

Peach absolutely murdered a raw chicken wing today, she chomped down and broke the bone straight away, ate every bit of it. Unfortunately I was holding it for her, didn't want raw chicken being dragged all over the house, she mistook my finger for the wing and chomped down with the same force. Ouch!
Cream tried his best with his wing but just couldn't get through the bone, poor baby!

    Thanks :)

Although she has a large square head,
    we're thinking a lab/rottie.

either way its 97% lab clearly!

    Love her either way!

I got some nice licks on the arm from Biggi, my white bunny and Banzaii, my grey little rabbit, was binkying around the garden all afternoon (it's when a bunny gets so happy that they lose all motor function and fling themselves into the air!)... Loki, the kitty, played the game where he tries to eat my curls. I love my little dudes.

Tux has turned into a TV addict!
Who knew there were so many videos for cats on YouTube?!?!?

Tux will sit and watch the birds videos for hours!

I think we must be very bad cat-parents to encourage so much tv - and at her age too

My dog does this thing where she wraps her paws around my arm kinda like a hug. She's only ever done it on me, today she did it on a boy... I think she approves :D

One of our cats has been in a really snuggly mood this week, unusual for him. He sleeps on the spare bed in the room opposite the bathroom and every time I come out of the bathroom he's sitting on the landing waiting for me, then he races into the bedroom and jumps on our bed. If I don't lay down on the bed and let him snuggle up for a few minutes he goes into the bathroom and pulls at the bath panel making a racket. You'd never know he'd been a feral kitten.

He sprawls across me and manages to get his nose under my chin or get his butt into the crook of my arm, using the rest of my arm as a back rest for washing his paws.:)
