Just downloaded the Shane Lowry episode. The interview was ok but it was around 25 minutes long in a 45 minute podcast and the rest was filled with absolute garbage and what seemed to be a 'hilarious' reel of in-jokes from the past. They can really waste time on nonsense.

Maybe he's a wind up merchant on twitter and all that, but that a completely different issue to me as I don't use twitter, but some people seem convinced that Miguel Delaney's contributions to SC are absolutely terrible each and every time. I don't get it, quite frankly

There was nothing untoward or annoying in his contribution in the last episode. I thought he was pretty good honestly, especially giving a different view on things to Ken. Some people are strongly convinced that he stinks the place out when he comes on, but I really don't hear it 90% of the time. This Miguel being the pits for SC guests is way overblown.

Honestly, I'd rather listen to him than Malachy Clerkin. I'm sure Malachy is a lovely guy, but, jesus, his stuff can be pretty boring. I struggle to remember anything he's said - even as he's saying it.

Though I agree the Murph talking about cricket segment, whenever that was, was pretty forgettable.

It’s just a preconception that’s built up over the years and he’ll never get a fair shot. I’d say most don’t even listen and still say he was terrible at this stage.
It’s like an opposite Andy Lee. If he went on as a guest and just made fart noises for half an hour you’d still have most of the thread fawning over it.

True, there are some common themes that just get repeated here and in the OTB thread:

1. Ken is sound
2. Murph is country and talks too much about X
3. Andy Lee is brilliant (he is to be fair)
4. Miguel alert!
5. OTB lads are too much banter
6. Ger Gilroy is too much banter
7. etc

100% agreed on Miguel, he's as good as most of their football guests. Not as good as Wilson or Sid Lowe but I've no problem with him being on. Its also really boring seeing users post these pointless "Miguel alert" posts everytime he's on, especially when I would say 90% of listeners and forum readers have no issue with him. If you don't like Miguel then fine but posting in this thread everytime he shows up to "warn" us is every bit as annoying as you claim he is.

All three of them do this. I find it quite amusing each time Eoin starts a 40 word question, realises at the end he hasn't actually asked a question, and finishes with a 'you know what I mean'.

Agree, it's the sound of his voice that I think gets most people, he has a high word count in the way that he describes things(as opposed to the likes of Phil Vickery), which is sort of bombarding, but in essence, his content is good.

When you donate your 5 euro to their patron you should really be able to divide up between Ken, Murph and Eoin depending on their performances the previous month. Also I think this would act as a incentive to the trio to better their performances.

personally ken is pretty woeful at times, droans on and on about pretty insignificant issues, hes read the books but not convinced his ideas stand up to much scrutiny amongst real soccer experts, and that's all he does - soccer (one sport sports journalist)... murphy is pretty witty and funny, eoin is a good anchor but honestly think joe molloy is better rounded and has some specialist expertise himself on golf and football that i dont think eoin has..

guests they get on are pretty similar. I think theres a fallacy out there that 'i pay for this, it must be elite and better than normal radio' which probably feeds the ego of the craft beer set (nothing against craft beer btw)...

Poor man now has to be constantly on high alert...get the impression he's dead sound though and really love the slot. Haven't heard it in a couple of days, hope Eoin is saving something big for tomorrow!

I also enjoyed the time someone clearly wrote to Ken and Murph about Eoin, now it was a pretty tame story, but I for one, am all for people reaching out to presenters individually if it means someone gets side-swiped on a show at some stage!

It's a very interesting and sad topic but the interview is not good. It was like they were just rehashing a conversation they'd already had. I didn't have a clue about Andy Cole's health problems and it just jumped suddenly from contracting an unknown virus to needing a kidney transplant. It was all so vague. I've said before that Richie's skills as a therapist don't make for good interviewing necessarily. Eoin is better in this regard because he can simultaneously extract the story from the interviewee while asking probing questions. I've never conducted an interview but I imagine it's really difficult to be good at and I don't mean to knock Richie.

In fairness, the lads are entertaining and give their listeners an experience of being "part of a gang", but what OP said is pretty spot on. Argue what he said rather than presume its Ger Gilroy ffs.

Really enjoyed the Andy Cole Interview. Very deep and he comes across really well on it. I like the way Richie interviews . I’ve only started to listen to the Second captains but one of the reasons I signed up was for his show as they looked interesting .

Overall I am enjoying the Pod at the moment . Don’t know what to make of the David o Doherty in Isolation though.

There isn't anything to argue in the post. If you are listening to Ken as a "soccer expert", something he has never claimed to be, then you are listening to the wrong podcast. Thats the purpose of having guests like Wilson on. I don't listen to second captains to hear detailed tactical analysis, a podcast is not the place for that kind of information. Who are these "real soccer experts" we are supposed to compare him to? I would consider pretty much no media pundit a "soccer expert". Wilson is an excellent historian, Michael Cox raises some good points on the evolution of tactics but at the end of the day there is a counterpoint to pretty much any opinion on football, thats what makes it interesting. If OP is saying OTB have soccer experts on then we clearly have different opinions on what a decent football analyst is. Kilbane, Nevin and their ilk are some of the worst pundits in the current media landscape and I can't listen to them.

As for the rest, clearly this is a thread of SC fans. Coming in here to rubbish all of them and say Joe Molloy is a better presenter than Eoin is a pointless exercise and is only going to be met with the reaction it has been, it was my own fault for not doing as others did and completely ignore it I suppose. Only thing i'll say on that is a presenter is not meant to be a specialist, thats what makes them good. Nobody listened to Bill O' Herlihy for his opinions, thats not the role.

As for the craft beer comment, clearly intended to provoke a reaction, laughable statement.
