Didn't enjoy the Andy Cole chat either. Fairly grim topic, not sure what to take away from it either. Thought Richie asked all the right questions, but just tough...
I think it was released at the wrong time. For me anyway. I have podcast piling up bigtime in my playlist. Plus, it's a fairly depressing time with this lockdown shíte, so something lighter goes down better.
If it was released in normal times I would have listened and probably thought it was good.

Those book club conversations don't work for me. I found yesterday's chat with Shane Horgan to be incredibly boring.

A VERY POOR WEEK OF PODCASTS SO FAR !!!

I agree. It would've worked better if they had just asked Shane on for a career retrospective.

Enjoyed today's chat with Jackie Tyrell, the Kilkenny hurler.
Maybe it's just that I like hearing of great sportspeople being human and having doubts but I am enjoying the game that changed your life slot.
Came across as a very likeable chap.

Also happy that EOin and Murph were called out for not getting Zlatan...I was like one of the guys who wrote in, nearly screaming it down my phone! :pac:

Shane Horgan can be very dull, but it must be harder for the lads to get newer guests on now I would have thought. I do usually like the book segment.

My God, that was unbelievable - it took the two of them forever.

I’ve said it before and I feel the need to say it again- the David o Doherty stuff is absolute tripe.

We get it- you are wacky beyond belief, scripted and acted out wacky but wacky no less.
The 90s references, the bombastic language, the outrageous behaviour- it’s all so unoriginal that it genuinely annoys the nads off me.

I’ve stopped but I still see the tweets that Second Captains share.

It’s just so damn outrageous & wacky - I can’t handle the wackiness.

There’s no wacky like scripted wacky- makes the off the wall-ness extremely authentic.

    When I see stuff like:

Anyone know what date the Normal People video game coming out for the Megadrive (not SNES)?

    Or

when life gives you covids, MAKE COVIDADE!!!!

I genuinely can’t fathom how anyone finds it funny, it’s baffling to me

If you block him on Twitter you won’t see the content of SC’s retweets of his.

The episode yesterday was lovely. His aunt had died overnight and he made a really poignant, off the cuff, tribute to her and life in general, weaving in the mockery he sometimes gets for his particular brand of comedy. My heart went out to him. He’s a good skin.

The ‘nutrition’ audio bed is golden. Top work!

I have never accused him of not being a nice person

When you say scripted, are you suggesting he writes it all out and then just reads it out?

Or just does a few notes and then talks about them?

I for one am enjoying the Isolating podcast. I suspect I'm not the only one.

Same, fairly harmless stuff. Don't go out of my way to listen to it mind.
Seems like a sound enough fella, some witty stuff, some daft stuff but an interesting life and family background. I also enjoy some of the reflections on the island and island life/characters

I'm absolutely loving the Isolating podcast, it's been one of the pleasant positives of the current situation. I use them as a nice gentle way to unwind before sleep, and invariably find myself giggling occasionally!

Granted, I was a big fan of DOD before but it's a real treat to get 5 eps a week!

Sure it's a little more formulaic than when it began but I find a comfort in all the segments and Mark's little additions!

There's occasionally been hares in my vicinity since the pod began and yes I now hear the sound effects in my head :pac:

The elephant roar in the end made it for me.

personally ken is pretty woeful at times, droans on and on about pretty insignificant issues, hes read the books but not convinced his ideas stand up to much scrutiny amongst real soccer experts, and that's all he does - soccer (one sport sports journalist)... murphy is pretty witty and funny, eoin is a good anchor but honestly think joe molloy is better rounded and has some specialist expertise himself on golf and football that i dont think eoin has..

guests they get on are pretty similar. I think theres a fallacy out there that 'i pay for this, it must be elite and better than normal radio' which probably feeds the ego of the craft beer set (nothing against craft beer btw)...

Missed this last week. Jesus, the most McTepid take I've ever heard.

The DOD podcasts are great. I wonder if they wish they stayed in Dublin? Some downbeat days which is understandable, I think everyone would be the same if they had to do a daily podcast. Adds to the realness of the situation. And the bit about his aunt d

Love the Say My Name slot. I probably wouldn't be a fan of the jazz bits with his dad. I actually feel bad for not liking it because it's seems like a nice bonding time with him and his dad who is very talented. But I end up skipping it. It's definitely not "scripted" but he prepares for it like anyone would.

The only thing that annoys me about DOD podcasts is when he starts explaining Irish things, like yesterday explaining who Michael D Higgins is or a few weeks ago explaining what the leaving cert is, like I get there's people outside Ireland listening to the podcast but those people are surely Irish, why else would they be listening to an Irish sports podcast

In fairness I assume SC have a decent handle on the listener base and i'd imagine there is a significant number of UK subscribers judging by the pods popularity on iTunes charts etc. so I would think thats why he does it. Having said that the normal SC pods don't ever explain irish references really so its a bit odd that the does. I know two people I work with subscribed just for the DOD pods so maybe many of the recent subscribers are not irish? Don't know to be honest.

DOD would have a far bigger international following than the SC crew in fairness..he's been doing the comedy circuit internationally a fair while at this stage.

True, sounds like he tours Australia a bit, didnt think there would be many subscribing to second captains just to hear him but maybe there is

His live shows are excellent. Though in the last one in the Sugar Club he got snappy with a couple of doormen which blew the facade a bit.

I find him irritating, so I just don't listen to them. I'd prefer if one of his spots was taken by the lads once a week watching a classic match and discussing what was going on in the world/sporting world at the time of it.

He doesn’t take up any spots, it’s extra each day.
