I'm not sure what people expect from Kane.

Look at what Lukkaku has behind him and what Kane has.

There haven't been any attacking players who've done more than Kane, except maybe Mbappé, but even then, he's blown very hot and cold rather than consistently performing.

Kane's role in this side is more agricultural by the nature of the way they play. England focused on set pieces. They tried to do a bit of a Liverpool with the high press and trying to feed off the scraps, but none of their front 3 have the right combination of pace, vision, ability to beat a man or capability in front of goal. Other than Lingard's goal against Panama, 3 of the front 4 have been utterly hapless in front of goal.

Just heard yesterdays pod. Ken has never been so far off the mark. He's let his hatred for this English team cloud his judgement.

I still enjoyed it though. I can see his point in some ways. Like what is better world cup semi final or playing Brazil in the quarters even if you lose? I don't know which I would pick. The semi final achievement will always come with the caveat "they played nobody" or "ah they were on the easy side of the draw" and they "lost when they played a good team".

I enjoyed it though because the two lads actually questioned Ken's opinions.

Yeah I feel the same way. I can see what he was getting at but he just expressed it in a really incoherent way, which is unlike him. I suppose he’s been on the road non-stop for three weeks so I’m happy enough to give a pass, especially with Murph and Eoin challenging him when he went off kilter.

    Richie's right, it's been a great tournament.

The clip of the German reporter asking Southgate in a long winded way why most of their goals came from set-pieces is funny, will they become someone they have on infrequently like Oluwashina.

Does anyone else think that Ken's little travel stories were just lies? Seems EVERY time he goes on a trip he has a whacky story. Seems kinda put on to me.

Well, the story about being locked in the toilet he tweeted during and think other journo involved in helping him to get out. The story on the train about bedsheets was a pretty mundane story brought to life by the audio bed /sampling. The story about being on the 3g in a restaurant was in company of other journos as well I think.

The one on the train during the euros with the curb your enthusiasm audio didn't Raphael Honikstein (?) add to that himself with some nugget of detail.

Some of these stories people would not even bother telling. It's just a combination of Ken telling the story and whichever does audio beds that makes it a winner.

For instance the laughing gas one was a decent story but the old fashioned Russian music cranking up in pace is great along with it.

Thought they dodged the point about the quality of the football.

It's all been very workmanlike and very few individuals or pieces of play have stood out.

It's been compelling but while it's hard to remember something as abstract as quality of football in years gone by, it was certainly far, far higher in Brazil.

The reporter was Japanese I think. Sure I heard one of them say it.

Comparing 64 games vs 64 games en bloc for standard and skill is a dull subjective argument. This has been a great World Cup.

It’s missing a truly great team. But apart from that it’s being for me the best ****ing sports competition I’ve ever seen in my 35 years.

Enjoyed Paul Howard yesterday, especially his father inadvertently abusing that IRA fella.

Ken saying that all Guardiola was to Mandzukic is a brain in a jar was the quote of the week, also "The gap between me and Giroud is probably smaller than the gap between Giroud and Mbappe" was brilliant.

Are they, what was the precise terms? Daily podcast? Don't remember them ever stating it was mon-fri

I think there's an interesting contrast between a functional team with a bad player up front, in France with Giroud, and a disfunctional team with a good player up front, in Brazil with Jesus.

When you have Griezmann and Mbappe knocking about, it's better to have a system that works to support them, than to flood the attack with the best individuals.

    Oh don't be obtuse.

Argentina would be a better example, i don't think Brazil aren't disfunctional at all

The RTE pod yesterday was brilliant. Less jingles, more slick, good interviewee.

Giroud was relatively speaking a cart horse for that French team - lead the line.

Thought he did that well enough to be honest

"I'm just a bitter, fat, poisonous toad, sitting here squirting my venom on their World Cup win"

At least Ken is self aware.
