I reset my nook today and tried to register again and it let me through this time with no problems, for anyone else that had to use the workaround like I did.

hopefully wont have battery problems now

Yes this worked for me too, just did a reset through the settings > erase and deregister.

Will report back on battery issue, hopefully it will be fine now and lose 1-2% per day instead of 10-15% per day in sleep mode.

    Yay! :)

I guess the easiest way would be to get the kindle app on it? Haven't tried yet though so not sure.

If you have ePub files you can put them on it using Adobe digital editions. Many people also use Calibre.

    No.
There are ways to circumvent the DRM on amazon books but I'm presuming I can't go into that here. Google is most helpful on the subject.

Any tips on ordering from John Lewis? They accept parcel motel address and Irish credit card? Seems to be £3 for delivery.

They accepted my order with Parcel Motel address as billing and shipping address

Some of the early posts on here talk about rooting the nook in order that you can download the kindle app. I haven't done it, but it appears relatively simple.

I'm still amazed at the interest there's been in this device, if only B&N allowed irish credit card holders to purchase from them, it might go some way to helping recover some of the losses the nook division has thusfar incurred. Gotta say again, I do love my nook glowlight, even bought my mother one at the weekend. The simple touch is fantastic value at £29, but for me, the glowlight is worth the extra £40 at £69.

Sainsbury's dispatched the order last night to parcel motel.

Seems to be going well so far!

Just to add some general nook stuff, I picked up a handy little book light that works well with the nook at dealz, obviously only €1.49.

While you're there, pick up 8 spare batteries for the same price...

Harvey Norman are selling the standard Kobo for €50 during their "BIG SALE".

Standard? I wouldn't call it that. It's the Mini with 5" screen. The standard has 6".

Yeah, "standard" was the wrong word to use, I meant it wasn't the touch screen one that was being sold by Xtravision.

Got mine yesterday from John Lewis via Parcel Motel. Ordered the 6th, arrived on the 11th

got mine from argos and parcel motel.

Plugged it in charge light was green left charge for 4 hours. Will not turn on displays message "charge before first use". Charged for 12 hours still would not turn on.

Contacted Barnes &Noble support they talked me through all the various reset methods pressing buttons- nothing worked - then they said you need to take it to your local B&N store- well thats not an option.

Seen on the internet that removing the battery and re-inserting it may reset it. Tried this and voided the warranty as there is a little tamper evident sticker over the screw- still does not turn on.

what colour is the led light on peoples when it is charging- mine is solid green all the time- does the light change colour

    Thanks

Mine is orange when it's charging, and turns green when it's complete.

It's worth having a look at the forums on XDA if you haven't already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1198. They might know some other reset options, I think there's a tool there somewhere to fix bricked nooks after a faulty firmware flash, and it might even be worth trying to flash some of the firmware that they have there.

This happened to my husband's one, he had it plugged into his laptop to charge for ages (hours) and it just said the battery was too low to power on (or something like that). We plugged it into my laptop instead and it came on straight away, then he plugged it back in to his laptop and it worked fine after that.

Ordered mine from Asda last week, arrived via Parcel Motel today. Now I just need to read back through this thread to work out what to do with it.

Can I ask a quick question please? I rooted the Nook last night but it says I have just 79mb of space in the bottom left. Is there any way to increase this if I want to install more apps? Thanks! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

Micro sd card. Pretty much all the 2gb is taken with Barnes and noble software.

Thanks mate....will the apps be automatically installed to the MicroSD or will I have to install another app to move them?

That I'm not sure of. I haven't gotten an SD card for mine yet.

I'm an idiot. That value in the bottom left is the available memory not the space left on the Nook!

How long did the backup take to run?

twenty minutes (but it felt like an eternity)

Moon+ Reader Pro and Perfect Viewer are both showing as being incompatible with my Nook. This LifeHacker guide must be out of date? I suppose I should go looking for an older version?

:edit: I think you need MoonReader-165b-OP1
