Walk of shame for me :o
But great craic nonetheless, super to put a few more faces to boards handles.
Kudos to T Aaaarrr Aaaarrr - sandbagger extronidare :D and Clara Lara - I left the 11.5% beer behind, I would have felt guilty taking it - enjoy if you can and good luck with the training.
Cycling the 40k back to collect my car in the morning doesn't seem such a good idea now - but it gets me out of bed.
Thanks to Kurt for the lift home
    When's the 2014 event?

Finish times were recorded. There's video footage. May never become public though.

Great event. Incredibly technical, not for the faint hearted. Just left everyone behind in the pub planning the autumn race when TRR relinquishes his crown.

This better happen. Stupid wedding getting in the way this time.

Great event . Not impressed with my beer drinking tonight but a few scalps in the bag and not chicked which is a bonus. Back to getting in proper running shape now.

I hate myself and hereby relinquish my modship after that pitiful performance :(

How's everyone's head, I'm fine, except I've tongue like one of Ghandi's flip flops.
Nice morning for a bike to clear the head into that northerly refreshing breeze.

Well - on the other side of it - great to meet y'all. I'm just about to down my first G&T before starting this morning's 50k cycle. Brilliantly organised event. See ye again.

Well done everyone who braved those conditions- as a spectator it was a riot! Loved the fact that the early leader for the first 300m had just started running a couple of weeks ago :D Well done TRR the winner!

Hats off to Andy on organising the race of the year. Despite the horrific weather conditions everybody put on a brave face.
Congrats to National Champions TRR (aka the Windmill King) and Claralara, superb runners up Krusty and Runningking. Ecoli, remember it's the taking part that counts so we're all really proud of you;)
Unfortunately I had to leave the pub just as the beers were really starting to kick in, it looked like there'd be a few reruns of the beer mile before the night was out:)

Brilliant night, thanks to The Quirkster for all the organising and to his missus, Kurt, Anthony (that's his court name :D) and MS for coming out to help/support!

Golf has Davis Love the third....

We have Meno'hanlon the froth :D

Great craic. Big thank you to Andy for organising this. It's easy to make suggestions about events like this online but usually when it comes to the crunch they don't happen so fair play. I think 35 registered to do it and about 20 turned up which is good going when the weather is taken into account.

Great event, really enjoyed it. Thanks for organising it Andy.

I have a few short video clips from the evening, I'll post them later this evening unless anyone has any objections to being shown online- let me know if that is the case and I won't put it up.

The clips are pretty rough in terms of quality, partly due to the weather so don't expect award winning footage!

It's official, I have stage one hypothermia, don't think I'll ever be dry again! Great event, well done Andy and well done to TRR, such a modest winner! ;) Good night afterwards too, nice to put some faces to usernames.

A great night and rough day ahead....big thanks to Andy for making it happen and also to all the volunteers for standing out in that weather!

I was starstruck last night to be in the presence of 3 national champions! :D Well done to TRR and CL on the victory.

And who can forget the chair of truth! Brilliant.

Sounds and looks like a great event. Embarrassed to say I 'bottled' it, home in time but the condtions and lure of my dinner won out:o
Well done to all, that pic is gas, definitely the skinniest bunch of beer swillers I've ever seen in one line:pac:

REally not 100% today and a few strange flashbacks to yesterdays event but will try somesore of race report.
Arrived very early for the event and got soaked in the rain before we decided to take shelter. Should have done a longer warm-up before the race but just wanted to get this done.
Set my beer out on the track and wated for the gun.

First been went down well enough had expected to be up and running quick enough, think the Nun, Trr and yellowflower were a bit quicker. Maybe ran a little hard for the first 200m but then coming around the final bend I started to slo as planned to get ready for the beer. At this point lots of people went buy maybe lost 7 place on the lap.

Beer two for some reason was a nightmare just couldnt get it down and lost a lot of time. Got going again not to far behind Beebbeep and mono so decided I wasnted to try and hold that gap until beer 3 and then try and push on. The run section was relaxed wasnt passed meno after about 100m after he blew chunks and wasnt passed by many until the top of the bend when clarlara and zombie went by at speed.

Took a 5 seconds to get beer 3 open but decided to pace this better 3 gulp so this one went down a bit quicker. Had a quick glance a claralara to see how much a lead I would have going out. Ran a bit harder on thik lap as I knew I need to push to get a bit of a gap. Coming around the top of the bend I could see TRR coming, could have go full out not to be lapped but then wouldnt have been able to get my beer down. He looked very strong and there is a 6 min beer mile in him.

Beer 4 in needed to focus and dig deep this went down a lot better may not have been very fast but didnt think there was a chance of spewing. So pushed on the last lap legs were feeling good and started to run hard. Was very glad to get to the finish line.

Think the finish time was 10:01 which is a bit annoying but took down ecoli , meno, claralara , digger , timmay and a few more so not a bad run.

Highlight for me was yellowfeather and ecoli over the last 100m little did I know she was a lap ahead of him :) or the reaction of the patrons in the pub when using the toilet, you would think they havent seen 10 semi naked me in a jax before.

No mention of being lapped by a 40 year old nun in fancy glasses?

    Must do my report.......

Well, what an event. Seriously it was the race of the year. I even hear that the race director was unanimously awarded the 'race director of the year' in the pub after ;)

My race was pretty much a disaster.
We go out an hour before the race and the weather was frankly shocking, we ended up standing in the driving wind and rain for about 30 minutes until someone got the bright idea to stand in the shelter of the forest . But it was too late at this stage: the damage was done and my hands were frozen solid.

Eventually we were joined by the other runners and the race was on. Given that my hands were frozen, I couldn't get my first bottle open. I distinctly remember TRR and a few others had started running before I had even opened my first bottle :o. Eventually i popped the cap but obviously was a bit panicked and drank it too quickly. Beer 1 22 seconds

Run 1: The start of the lap was into the wind. I Couldn't get any gas out so my running was disrupted. Got out in about 4th place I think but was quickly passed by 3/4 runners. Surprising looking back that the run was 92 seconds

    Beer 2
Got it open much better than the last but was spooked when digger and CL appeared back in transition before I had finished. Having not burped the previous lap my stomach was full of gas so I needed a few goes to get his one down 32 seconds

    Run 2:
I was really struggling now, was out in about 4th place again but my stomach was giving me serious problems. Still wasn't managing to get any wind out so it was like running with a lead weight in my belly . Just about got around in 1:47 but lost a lot of places in the run.

    Beer 3:
Pure struggle. Again I was spooked on seeing CL and digger in transition shortly after me. Thought that I might get chicked for the first time. 42 seconds

    Run 3:
The whole thing unfolded here. Straight away i knew i was in trouble: full of gas and it had nowhere to go. I tried to force myself to burp but all that was coming up was beer froth. I had to pull to the infield at this point for what appeared to be a puke: (I insist here again that it wasn't puke, literally all that was coming up was beer froth and gas but the game was up). The officials spotted me and I was resigned to a penalty lap :(. By the time I got started moving again, digger and CL had already passed me . During my penalty lap I was passed by TRR on his way to the win. In the home straight I caught the epic sprint off for 2nd place between Krusty and Runningking. My running had gone to pot and I was just jogging/walking. Totally demoralised I was just going to be happy to finish. 4:56 (including puke[/U] and penalty lap)

    Beer 4
Was surprised to find there were still many in transition including e.coli so I figured I might not actually finish last :). E.coli was really struggling to get his last beer down. I decided on taking it easy and just enjoying the rest of the race. No panic here so i just took it easy 60 seconds

    Run 4
It was just a matter of finishing out now: got to 200m and realised there was no-one in passing distance so I just jogged home: 2:13

    Finish 13:08 ( about 4th or 5th last)

    Conclusions
Seriously the toughest race I have ever run. I am a pretty good beer chugger but that means nothing. Trying to get 4 down in a short space of time is a different kettle of fish. Burping needs to be improved. I think it is vital to at least practise chugging 4 straight beers in training, if not run a complete beer mile. This is the only way to simulate the pain you are in after chugging your 3rd/4th beer. Hopefully there will be another beer mile soon so I can put this disaster right. Of all the races I thought Claralara might beat me, I can't believe she chicked me in the beer mile

Brilliant event and post drinks-drinks. Well done to Dr Quirky, who had the balls to put on an illicit event and to the 19 hardy-bucks that braved the awful winter conditions to run. Special thanks to Kurt for the 'dry-clothes' tent and to all the volunteers and spectators, who made it such a great evening.

7:42 for me, so went perfectly to plan. Just didn't have it in me to take on the pirate, but thankfully, was able to out-kick the nun in a sprint for second place. Approximate splits:
    Beer1 - 0:17 / Beer2 - 0:35 / Beer3 - 0:32 / Beer4 - 0:47
    Lap1 - 1:25 / Lap2 - 1:28 / Lap3 - 1:28 / Lap4 - 1:10

Where else could you possibly find steeple-chasers, sprinters, marathoners, triathletes, pirates, zombies, nuns and strippers(?) all competing on an equal footing?! On a positive note, I think we managed to put off my daughter from drinking for an extra few years. A few more races and she'll be a tee-totaller.

Guys someone left a red nike windbreaker (no not that kind of wind :D) behind last night and I picked it up. Whoever owns it drop me a PM and I'll send it on.

    Race report to follow later.

Great race and night. Good to see so many brave the elements to turn out (although this did lead to some very confused patrons in the lads bathroom to walk in to an army of half naked lads:D)

My performance was one to be quickly forgotten as I struggled from the off. I got complacent while away to come back to see nearly everyone was in serious training for this one.

Will have some redeeming to do at the next one.

Also meno sorry about the disappearing act :D Needed to get home to be anyway decent for work today

Good also to see new and old faces and big thank you to quirky for putting in so much effort to make it a success

Dr Q, would you have my time? I think I was somewhere around the 8.30 mark. I didn't have a stopwatch so that's just guess work.
Thanks for putting in all the work in organising the event. It went very smoothly. Well, as smooth as a race of this nature could ever be. Shoe in for race of the year I'd say. It was going to take something special like this to knock the Dublin Marathon off its perch.
