Rickie about to be in trouble... shanked a shot OB and then proceeded to drop another ball.... from SHOULDER height and play it. 1 stroke penalty for that.

Him and Tyrrell Hatton, pair of clowns

Commentators clueless as usual when it comes to the rules. It would only be a general penalty (2 strokes) if it rolled outside his relief area (1 club length).

    He's responded well anyway

Rory striking the ball very well. Every part of his game looks on point. Birdie birdie start.

The Grange, McGinley opened with a 2- 2. Any truth in that?

Weird how they show DJ tapping in from 2 feet, yet we see so few approach shots, including Rorys

Far way off Fleetwood's 2 opening 2s on par 4s. Typical Sky baloney

In fairness they were asking about starting with 2 opening 2's and McGinley playfully said he did it on his home course and then paused and said that they were 2 par 3's though. I think it was just tongue in cheek stuff.

Fair enough.Saw Beem and the other lad repeating the story not McGinleys rendition.

I think what made this shot all the more incredible was he changed club 3 times, almost looked indecisive on what he wanted to do. At one stage I thought he was going to just hack it sideways on to the fairway, then he pulls that Hail Mary shot out of the bag. It was fantastic to watch. I honestly don’t think there is another player on the tour or in history that could do it, maybe Seve. The amount of cut spin he achieved, unreal. Great to have Tiger back!

Surprised that Rickie didn't man up and admit that the drop error was his and his caddie's fault.

"We were laughing at guys, like the first couple weeks when I didn’t play, seeing guys trying to drop from their knee,” Fowler said. “It just looks — it looks funny. We have been making fun of the knee drop for so long that it was ingrained at my first — my first drop was going to be from knee. Like, this is an iconic moment. I get to drop from my knee and look stupid. I think it’s a terrible change.”

Not only is Fowler not a fan of the revision, he also believes it won’t last.

“With the new rules that have been put in place, it’s not doing any favors for our sport,” Fowler continued. “They’re trying to simplify things, but it’s obviously, like, we’re seeing it’s making it [more] complicated. I definitely think [the rule] will get changed.”

Fowler did it really quickly after hitting an awful shot, it was more reactionary then anything, tbf his caddie should have been paying attention but was looking in the bag as he did it but its not like Rickie is going to say that to the media at least.

The rule is silly though you should have the option
