Ricky with a treble bogey on an relatively straightforward par 5. Rory can only make par after being in the green side bunker in 2!

Manassero is having a mare too. Currently +1 but after putting another one in the drink on 9

Damian McGrane shot a 69, and lying on -4 for the tournament. Good performance.

Mark Roe just there... "Sand on the fringe of a green cannot be brushed away because it's classed as a loose impediment" :D Nearly correct Mark.

    Are you sure he's wrong?

Mcilroy is driving the ball superbly.
So so long and bang straight in middle of fairway.

Mannasero however is all over the shop but still 1 under.

The ruling is correct but he muddled up the reasoning .... it is the opposite... sand becomes a loose impediment only when on the putting green.

It is because sand is not deemed to be a loose impediment off the green that it cannot be brushed away.

This stat Sky just put up on screen is insane
Rory McIlroy hit 3462 shots on 2014 European Tour earning on average €1,988 per shot

Rory with an ace- is that right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,150 ✭✭✭✭LuckyGent88

Well he doesn't need the putter now.

Pity the leinster Jersey was in the background though :)

What an ace... he will be delighted that the putter can stay in the bag!

Looks like he will just have to hole his shots from the fairway. Can't buy a putt.

Wow he really left fowler in the dust today.

He did and it shows the gulf in class between the 2. Fowler is a great golfer but on his day Rory is streets ahead of him

I have to laugh when they talk up a rivalry between Rory and Ricky, rivalry is Rory winning one week and Ricky the next etc, pipping each other for wins, how can there be a rivalry with Ricky so winless?

It's quite a fabricated rivalry alright. Mostly US wanting someone to root for. If Spieth comes on strong this year they'll stop talking about Fowler pretty quick!

Ricky had a great season in 2014 - did very well in the majors. Just needs to win.

Yeah Ricky will win plenty of tournaments over the years. He's compared to Rory because of the age, there's a friendly rivalry there I think it's fair to say.

.....and I think they seem to be buddies too.

Kaymer birdies the first 2 holes...Rory cannot get the ball in the hole again today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

64 from Dubuisson - if he keeps that up, he'll be in the mix.

Rory finally gets himself a birdie.
