What's their profit like, that'd be the question I'd be asking?

I think if we can hold our base price of 31c/l we won't be doing so bad at all. We must be realistic, world markets are taking a real hammering, even in the uk they're talking around 16/17p/l at the mo. With good solids a base of 31 gives us scope for an ok price. Time to batten down the hatches

Sorry to say carbery dropped.75 for apr and are looking for 2 cent more in may

Heard 125 last night from a lad. Alot of barley planted around here, local seed merchant had to get in alot more than other years on top of their own.

First thought I had was how cheap is "grass based" dairying at that meal price.

It certainly calls maize, while crop and second cut into question

Edit: growing it yourself I should add

thats giving maize worth €30 per tonne, gave up growing it this year as could't do it for less than 55 and more often cost near 65 a ton! waste to be piked after that!

will have enough other forage anyway

I presume you have got the same letter I did dated 17 th Feb from the chairman,
not going to print it here but as far as I can see they have failed to keep 2 promises

Namely number 2 and number 5 of that list in bold print, or am I missing something

otherwise I'm happy with their performance

2 cent is a big drop, a good few lads around here have invested very heavily in parlours, farm buildings. Cashflow will be tight.

That's stuff left over from a gangfcuk they had in Bellview on Wed night/Thurs morning. Seems to be their default setting when something goes wrong there. They skim solids and dump liquid. No real home for the product they are left with.

All the indicators are not looking good. I think we're looking down the barrel of a gun for the rest of the year

As bad as that is for established enterprises, it's going to be some baptism of fire for new entrants

How the price of cows rocketed so much in April, I'd say there will be plenty of cheap heifers next December again, good opportunities! I've got afew poor milking cows who are in tidy condition, definitely time to let them on.

    What's your reason for keeping?

Only cleared out the passengers at end of calving. All culls were sold last fall.

Will sell next week We have sales targets to meet and these value needs to be maxed with the low milk price

If your not under pressure with grazing or shed space I don't see why not keep and make more money on them if the market going that way. In my case the few culls are only dried off recently so where still putting money in the tank.

Cull cows and bull calves can and will be a lot more than an insignificant bi product in low milk price phase.cant understand how lads not heavily stocked and with out blocks etc don't get weight onto them to increase value.rolled barley and line frazz Is doing, let them follow calves etc will pile weight on them.lads paying crazy money for them at moment
