Well that's some brutal news to wake up to.
    Hope he recovers quickly.

That's awful news. Gutted for him and his team. Hopefully by the time he's back we might have 1 or even 2 more Irish fighters after breaking into the UFC.

Best if luck to Conor. The next 12 months will be tough on an athlete like him.

Ah damn, it's a shame for him, but here's hoping he has a good recovery and we see him back at his best again.

It looks like a return from this would more or less coincide with an Irish event in Q3 next year.

Tough titties to all those who booked a bet with PP on him being world champ by next year.

What a bummer! When I heard him talk about a pop I worried it was ligaments, but had kinda convinced myself otherwise, aided by a few positive tweets from Conor - funny how the mind works.

Hope he has a good recovery, must suck for him. Looks like he ran into Dana afterwards so I'm sure "The Don" will have hada few good words of advice for him.

Ah fook. Man. Anything up to 3 months is fine. But 10? Man that's a long time.

Slightly off topic, but what will a strained/torn MCL mean? I'm pretty sure I hurt mine badly over a year ago (last July). It would lock up intermittently and was swollen for weeks. Had a doctor give me antiinflammatories which did nothing and just recommended exercises. Physiotherapist recommended exercises which didn't do much.

It's always been a bit sore since then. Have I got to go the whole hog and get an MRI?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11 Blump

Aww man, that is some gutting news right there.
Like many people I initially feared it, but soon became convinced it'd only be minor.

Hope he can make as good a recovery as possible.

Terrible news. Hope he comes back stronger from this.

Ah WTF man, I wake up to find Conor is out for 10 months and Ben Affleck is the new Batman??? What the hell is going on!

Hope for a speedy recovery Conor!

He will be lucky if he even fights in 2014. He will be out for the guts of 10 months with no training or whatever, then get himself back in the saddle

If UFC do have an event in 2014 Q3, i doubt he will be on the card.

I'm saying he doing a Chael because of the abuse people are getting twitter looking for attention off them in the hope the top guys in the division will look to fight Connor
Do he deserve a top 10 fight?

I say no he don't deserve or ready imo. but Connors a grown man it up to him.

Wow, conor posted that diego sanchez is the fattest, laziest, slopiest martial artist he's ever seen. Sanchez is not happy, said he is gonna beat him up next time he sees him, most likely at fight summit.

well sanchez replied to one of conors tweet about conor having no respect so he got both barrels :)

This is a terrible setback. Hope he can recover to compete at a similar level. Its going to test his temperament as im sure hes never had as long a layoff away from training before. ugh sick unlucky.
On the brighter side with more time on his hands hes going to be able to give so much back around sgb.

This is absolutely **** news. Have to feel for the lad. Hopefully he takes it well and can come out stronger and, as if it's possible, more determined.

Holloway must be feeling awful today. McGregor has an ACL tear and he could still do nothing to him on Saturday. Great maturity to close out the fight like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gary Cook and the rest are making sure that the Irish date coincides with Conor's return. Whether he was going to be headline fight or not (I think not), the card was going to be focused on him.

I honestly didn't think he was looking for a fight with any of them next tbh. He was asked what he thought of each of them and he answered.

For what it's worth, there were no plans for Conor to headline. They want to put on a card they can sell in the US. Which is probably better for us as it means a better card. Maybe a numbered event and not a fuel event.

F******ck. This makes me think of two potential scenarios. GSP suffered the same fate and after a long time out came back even stronger. However, he did have the money for the best possible rehabilitation facilities and methods. Another scenario is what happened to Dom Cruz. Complication upon complication leading to two years on the sidelines... let's all hope Conor's recovery goes even smoother than GSP's!

No I know. Dana pretty much confirmed it. Was still not 100% though and depending on what Conor did in the meantime, it could have ended up with a slim chance.

I'd be surprised if we got a numbered card to be honest. I reckon it'll be a Fight Night for Fox Sports, similar to the UK card in October. Realistically, it might be a decent card but I doubt we'll get a PPV quality card. Would love to see that happen though.

Hopefully he goes to see GSP, who else to show him how to recover properly. I saw some of his recovery workouts on that knee it was awesome stuff. All the fighters are insured now against injury so I guess the UFC will cover all his rehab costs or at least any ops that need to be done, and it would be done in the US where the quality will be the best.

John and gunni also had recent knee surgeries. Not same injuries but he has good support

Yeah, of course, had he had two dominant wins in the interim he could well have been fighting in a title eliminator main event. I just meant, current plans (injury aside of course).

I'm still hoping for a numbers event. Kinda of hope the irish connection is enough to try sell it an afternoon PPV rather than free tape delay.

All the self promotion people have been giving out about will really help him here.

UFC will help him out and look out for him with the injury as he is now a valuable asset to them.

    Sickener.
Hope he gets a second (and third) opinion. There seems to be a huge variation in seriousness and rehab outcomes with cruciate injuries.
Good luck with the rehab. I hope he gets back to 100%.

Mousasi had the same problem,he even fought Latif in Sweden with a torn ACL

Just hope he doesnt try to rush back for the ireland card and injure himself again, that would ****ing suck!

The variation is down to partial tears of various grades and full ruptures of the entire ligament. If the MRI shows a full rupture i'm not sure how much opinion there could be involved.

At least the UFC's fighter insurance should allow for a pretty high level of care.

I believe there's also variation is how a person can perform without a cruciate. I think they're split into 'copers' and 'non copers', but I don't know any more than that!

An ACL tear or rupture isn't the career ending injury it would have been for some athletes even as recently as ten years ago in some cases. Quite a lot of doctors even prefer to see a complete as opposed to a partial tear when it comes to the ACL so that they have a baseline to work from and aren't risking secondary tears. No one will be able to give him a long term prognosis until he is at least 6 months into rehab.

An ACL in many cases can be a tcking time bomb waiting to explode. No offence to cage warriors, they really are a great promotion, but thank god this happened when he was with the UFC. I have no doubt but they will be very helpful in his recovery and rehab. Conor Mcgregor is a commodity now, and like any other business, the UFC protects its assets.
