what a FABULOUS morning in the Phoenix Park. I thought the cops were after me at one stage :o but it turned out there was a race on so managed to get out of the way in time to see the leading man tear past with garda escort.
11 glorious miles in amazing weather. What more could one ask for!
Hope you all get some nice-weather training done this weekend:)

Well done C_M on an amazing race last night. Great to read your report on your log. Fantastic:)

Was there myself, running with the dog, trying to avoid the race. Calcutta Run, listed as a 10k race but is actually 10.3k.

Great weather for a run for me, but the dog found it tough going!

Did a 5k last night. Lovely race, really well organised in the sticks! Ha the option of 5 or 8k and so glad I chose the 5..:-0. I know,I know I should have went go the 8 but some of the hills nearly brought tears to my eyes! Got my own pb anyway. Not fast but MY fastest so happy with that. Great feed after too! Also did two other 5k during the week and an 8 k too.

After doing my LSR at the height of the heat today, new lesson learned.....bring water!

When I started doing LSR's, I was originally doing them on Thursday evenings. I might go back to that routine. Seemed to suit me better and it's likely to be cooler. Have to be careful about changing the order of the days in my training plan tho - need to make sure it stays logical.

    Hi Everyone,
Used to be a big poster on boards back in the day now before I closed my account. But now I'm back and have my sights set on the DCM 2013. Apologies in advance haven't read all of the earlier posts. But don't worry I'll have them finished, and get myself up to speed by this evening. I can't believe people start there training in March WOW. That is dedication.

I've been running on and off for the last few years. At the moment I've been focused on lifting. But plan to knock that on the head in the next two or three weeks. I'm also planning on starting a training log. So all critism and help very much welcome.

•Have you raced before? If so what are your PBs? (Date and distance please!)
    Samsung night run 10K 56:56

•Do you still need to take walk breaks in your training ? (No problem if you do)
    No.

How much training do you currently do ? Distances, how many days a week, cross training - whatever you think is relevant to your current fitness level.
I lift three days a week, swim 50 laps (backstroke) twice a week and try and fit in at least two runs a week. Generally of three or four mile duration. I also do a bit of kayaking, twice a week or so. I weight 190lbs, amd 5'9'' and a resting HR or 54bpm and last time I mesured it I have a body fat of 24.8. Which clearly needs to come down a good bit,

What do you want to achieve? Dream finishing time and realistic finishing time ?
Under 4 hours, realistic hmm 3:59:59. Aside from that I'd like to drop to about 15% Body fat and most importantly stay injury free!!!

How many days a week can you train ?
    4-5

•Why are you running this marathon ?
I've been meaning to run one for the last ten years or so. I'm sick of everybody and there brother having run one and I haven't!!!

I have a Garmin 410, and plan on using one sub four hour plan Runners world have put together for it. Has anyone ever had much luck with them before.Available here http://www.runnersworld.co.uk/racing/rws-garmin-ready-marathon-schedule-sub-400/2765.html

I'm using their sub 2 hour half marathon schedule at the moment, and I really like it. There's a lot of variety in it and it's challenging, without pushing me too hard.

Whether it will get me the time promised, who knows. Ask me in a couple of months. :)

As plans go, you could do a lot worse. Have a look back through this thread though - there's a couple of different options posted.

Really is gorgeous out! I decided on a cycle today instead of a run, did 50km & got BURNT!! Dont forget sun cream for your LSR people:)
Forgot and got burnt also

  • Registered Users Posts: 852 ✭✭✭shortstuff!

Well I didn't need the sun cream today, got SOAKED instead! 23miles done this week, nice improvement to the 7miles total from last weeks step back/lazy week.. Is it very sad the the last 1/2 mile was me running round the house as underestimated the distance of my LSR route:rolleyes:

Had my 1st DCM dream last night, arrived to start line & then realised that I forgot to enter the race so wasn't allowed run:( Can't believe I'm having dreams before we even start the proper plan:eek:

Clare Burren Marathon Challenge May 25th - Half Marathon

The toughest race Ive ever done - it sapped every bit of energy out of me - so much so I slept 2 1/2 hours after it!

All runners and walkers for the 10k,half and full lined up to start at 9 am. There were road closures but nobody mustve told the old dear in her small car who decided to plough through from the back beeping her horn. It was like something out of father ted!! The lads beside me were saying she was late for the bingo!!

There was no segregation between runners and walkers and I saw one american guy get knocked over by a runner. He was ok, but a bit annoyed.

The first 4 miles were by road and miles 4-10.5 were rocky trails which went up and over 2 mountains. The final descent was pretty tough - there was very little running to be done as I didnt want to break an ankle so I enjoyed the views and took a few photos.

The last few miles were by road so I ran/walked it but managed a sprint finish and came in just under 3 hours. I was pretty happy as i had very little training done, was worried about my shin splints & i didnt want to risk further injury.

The mens marathon winner came in just after i finished in 3 hrs 4 mins - fair play to him!!

While I enjoyed it, I think I'll stick to road races!! Going to rest for a couple of weeks to give proper time for the shin splints to heal, then get ready for the plan to start.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,758 ✭✭✭Laois_Man

    Well done Milknosugar

Shin splints are a big worry for me too. The annoying thing is that resting for a couple of weeks doesn't help them that much. They can potentially turn into a stress facture which could take months to heal. At the moment, I don't think I am too bad with them....but you really do have to watch it very closely!

Well done, the Clare Burren half is one of the toughest halfs you will run in Ireland. You will take significant minutes off that time on a flatter course.

Soap for shin splints? Certainly cheaper than the physio! Will definately give it a go.

Im in a heap since yesterday, trying to fight off girl flu and my right shin is in pain again. Time for a complete rest and see how I go.

Hope whoevers doing the mini marathon has fun - I did it in 2009 after zero training - was still a 20 a day smoker and had stuffed 2 cigarettes in my sock so I could have them as a treat once I finished!! When I think of it!!

No I haven't done it before. I think it's 2 laps around the town and not too hilly. I just meant I'm training for a 50k in 3 weeks so it would have been silly for me to miss my long pace run today and do a 4m race. Even though the race would have been more fun :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 130 ✭✭MazzR

I know the route like the back of my hand since this is where I do all of my running. Two biggish hills but v manageable too. I'm looking forward to it. Certainly a beautiful evening for it. Enjoy your run too career_move. Do u know this area well?
