I'm thinking of giving reflexology a go for the various fluid retention and nerve damage. Does anyone here have any experience with it? Kind of willing to give anything a go at this stage. My gym is attached to a spa and they offer reflexology there and I get a 25% discount with my membership so that's an added bonus.

    I need a big floppy sun-hat.
I think something like this would work well... :P

Welp, put a kebosh on any trips to NYC. Works out cheaper to go on a week's cruise. Good thing I have a senior citizen discount (my aunt and granny are coming- both over 55) so it's actually quite economic especially if we go through the cruiseline website. Just need to sort out flights and spending monies and it's all gravy.
Also: I need this because of sunbathing reasons. Hopefully everything will work out. I seriously have had just about enough of rain, sleet, snow and looking pasty.

McChubbin, given your last few posts that I read were about you having problems with your weight, do you really think a cruise, with food available 24/7 is a good idea? Not to mention your numerous posts about being broke?

I'm really sorry to say this, and honestly am not attacking you personally, but your posts just don't seem to match up to the reality of your life, one minute you are talking about needing gastro band surgery, the next going on a cruise, another you are on about being broke, then having money to go on a cruise.

I make a fairly decent living and I couldn't afford to go on a cruise!

One of my colleagues does it and feels it makes a real difference, it's like I do reiki and find it good :)

I had it done once and not to belittle the experience, as it was lovely and relaxing, but it's a glorified footrub. I was intrigued to see where she would find blockages but didnt really feel any benefits from it except coming away relaxed.

The swelling is causing me serious bother. My left leg, from my knee down to my ankle, is very bad, and my right knee and part of my right thigh is bad too, and I've read that reflexology can help swelling so fingers crossed.

I do have a lot of savings. I just find I tend to cycle from one idea to the next. I guess my posts do come across as flaky to some but I'm trying. Most of the time I'm just being whimsical or bitter over my weight/money situation but this holiday thing is a long time in the planning. I've been saving regularly. It's not much but it's enough to get me off this rock for a week. To be honest, I just don't know what to do with myself as pretty much all I can do is sit home and be a keyboard warrior on the internet.

I post about my weight because I have a lot of hangups that I need to get off my chest. I suppose I *could* manage my money better and I am taking steps towards that (changing banks is one of them). As for the gastric band posts, I admit I might've jumped the gun on that one- I was having a particularly ****ty "fat day" and I went off on one. :/

I have had basic massage done and sometimes it helps, sometimes it makes everything more painful, sometimes it's painful during. I have definitely felt blockages being found and helped but not alleviated fully sadly. My lymph vessels in my lower left leg are totally fooked, it's been described to me as though the fluid in my leg is "gone off" because it hasn't been able to move beyond my knee in almost a year.

One session is grand for relaxation but it's not going to make a big difference to an on going problem. A course of reflexology will make a difference. Pixie, Im on my phone now but I'll drop you a PM tomorrow :)

Might be a complete waste of time PB, but have you tried body brushing? I do it on my thighs for cellulite (for all the good it does me) but it's supposed to be good for taking away waste and bringing oxygen so I don't know, it might be worth trying? Once a day couldn't do any harm, you'd be no worse off like. Just work it up towards your heart in circular motions is what I do.

Trying to read "The Physician" by Noah Gordon and it's honestly like trying to read a history book of stereo instruactions written in Latin.
I'm 4 chapters in and I want to give up even though I know it's a good story. Blargh. Stupid attention span not working for me tonight. :C

I did body brushing on my son a few years ago but it was tough going...every 4 hours for 6 long months...it was good tho. He was extremely sensitive to touch and it definitely did help.

Pixie, I presume you've tried lymphatic drainage massage?

I've had two courses of 4-6 sessions(about 2 years apart) but not for injury/fluid retention. In my case it really helped regulate my painful and erratic periods. Also found that it quite good for the clearing my head. Sometimes found it a bit painful though.

Yeah I've had about 5 massages since December, specifically on my legs, and they've made a slight, only noticeable with a measuring tape, difference and sometimes they're fine, sometimes they're painful during and after. The spa seem to recommend at least 6 sessions of reflexology, it's a course of 5 with the 6th one free. I'd just like to give it a whirl, same goes for the likes of acupuncture which i've also been told to try.

    Thanks chick :)

Acupuncture sounds good, PB. Have you also considered "cupping"? I'm not sure of the correct name for it but it involves getting a massuse/therapist to heat the rims of little cups in hot water and stick them to your body at strategic points. The theory is that the hot air in the cup will cause the blood vessels to constrict and rush to the surface of your skin, promoting good circulation and lymphatic draining.

    Or so I'm told... >_>

Yeah I do body brushing as often as I can bare it. I have eczema so my skin is quite sensitive anyway but i also have a lot of scarring on my lower left leg that I have to be gentle enough with.

Yeah, that's the massage I've had, my sister does it and one of the women in the spa does it.
Makes me need to wee lots afterwards lol! I actually thought my bladder was going to burst last time!
The woman in the spa that does that is the only one qualified in everything so I always go to her so she knows where to concentrate her best efforts and it's nice not having to explain everything everytime I go there.

Thanks for that McChubbin, will look into that too.

    I heard this is great.

I wonder would it work on my massive ankles

I'd think reflexology would help you, be prepared to feel a bit uncomfortable for a day or two later though.

It should definitely help with any lymphatic drainage issues if you have them.

I haven't had anything other than a few days away in Ireland for over ten years. I do get the impression from your posts that you are not too sure about where you most need to focus.

You also tend not to participate overall in this thread, but rather shoot in with an issue, bug out, and then come back with another issue, so we don't get to know you.

If I were you, I'd possibly try to engage more on the thread, but outside of that, I'd seriously think about addressing your personal situation to show a bit of progress or a plan to move forward.

You'll get great support here if you do, as opposed to mushrooming in with one thought one week and another a few weeks later.

If I sound harsh I apologise, but your representation of your life is hard to reconcile a lot compared to your posts :)

The last consultant i saw told me that all the scarring on my leg goes as deep as my bones and that my lymph vessels have basically been severed because of this. He said it'll never get better, it's just a case of trying everything in the hope of finding something that will ease some of the swelling, pain and pressure. No joy on that score yet.

I found this weekend really long. I'm really looking forward to getting back to getting some work done in my course tomorrow. I'm really liking it a lot.

In a bit of a weird mood for some reason. Made a mess of something earlier and I'm not sure I can make it better.

Hey ladies, hope you're all doing well.

This weekend was crap. Utter crap. The highlight of my weekend was being told that I have striking eyebrows.

    *shrugs*

Talking of acupuncture. I am going to try that tomorrow and your man does cupping too so I might get that done too. I am a little bit nervous but he comes highly recommended. I really hope my legs get fixed some time soon :(

Also I really really need to move out

I have a spare room that you can have. Free. All you have to do is entertain me and my doggies.

    I like interpretive dance.

They like food and tennis balls.

Maybe you can combine the three?

I'm confused by the phrases etc that teenagers use in their tweets/status updates lately. It seems I'm not down with the youngsters anymore.. :o

I used to be with it... but then they changed what "it" was. What was "it" isn't it and what is "it" seems new and scary to me... :D
There's a classic Simpson's line for every occassion!

In other news, I think I need to go to bed now. Nighty night, girlies.

It's called bad grammar, I'm glad I can't understand most of it because it means I'm not an idiot.

I've never been with it, so when they changed what it was, it didn't really effect me. I'm still not with it. But I like who I am with so it's ok. (that's a very not with it thing to say isn't it!)

Bit harsh no? not everyone feels the need to update every bit of their daily life on here for others to "get to know". McChubbin's post wasn't even asking anyone for advice on anything she just said she changed some plans around.
