Sky TV guide showing “This is Premier Sports 2” from midnight Sunday night.

So is the channel closing? Nothing on the usually reliable Sky community thread to say that. If I were to hazard a guess I wonder if this is the mooted merger of the UK and Ireland versions of Premier 2?

Edit: Looks like that’s exactly what it is - schedule for next week on entertainment.ie has stuff like NASCAR and IIHF back in the schedule which haven’t appeared in Ireland since Premier and Viaplay separated.

Here's a sample from Radio Times online edition, for Friday 31st May - (Sat. 1st June is blank for RoI version).

First entry for each is the UK version. Premier Sport 1 still has opt-outs for each version.

the schedule for tomorrow is up on the Premier Sports Ireland website now with previously UK-only sports like NASCAR and IIHF ice hockey back in the schedule.

Sky guide still only goes up to Monday night though.

looks like the feeds have been switched over now, Premier Sports 2 has full seven day data on Sky’s guide now and appears to be operating as a pan UK & Ireland service.

NASCAR fans can rejoice, with live NASCAR back in the schedule next Sunday night.

Rugby fans may not be so happy, with so far it appears no plans to show the mouth watering Top 14 clash of Toulouse v La Rochelle on Sunday night. Or any other live Top 14 next weekend for that matter. UK viewers can watch up to four Top 14 games on the Viaplay app (still operating now on a stay of execution until July while Premier sort some issues with their one out) but Premier in Ireland is a strictly linear only proposition. If it doesn’t make it into the linear schedule we don’t see it, and having only one Irish only channel will make that a bit more difficult to cater for. Now there’s still hope, as Premier 1 is listing only repeats, so no reason why they couldn’t show it there!

Both Toulon vs Clermont and Toulouse vs La Rochelle are listed on epg for Premier Sports 1 for UK viewers.

No, neithers in the ROI schedules. Premier Sports 1 is still independently programmed in both countries.

Bizzarly this has meant that Sharks v Bulls is listed to be shown on Premier 1 &2 at the same time.

This annoys me - channel buys the rights to the competition and then sits on them and doesn’t show anything. It’s particularly annoying in this case because all that’s listed for Premier 1 on Sunday night is repeats, and this is a huge game. Maybe they’ll repent and show it in the end, Premier have a long history of late schedule changes.

As I said elsewhere, TV5 are also showing the run in for free, albeit in French, so there’s an alternative, although they’ve gone for Racing v Pau rather than Toulouse v La Rochelle.

Just thinking out loud here and haven't checked. I know the reverse has been taken advantage of in the UK but can the UK version be manually tuned here as a last resort.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

It used to be case, yes. Even all the way through the Viaplay era when they were in separate ownership you could do it. Not sure what the technical reasons behind it was or why they didn’t stop it.

Only applicable to Sky satellite customers of course.

UK version of PS1 still clearing here at the moment.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Toulon v ASM and Toulouse v La Rochelle now in the Premier 1 schedule, yay.

(Though the Toulon game appears to be an hour late).

The orignal listing of Toulon appears to have been an error. This has now been corrected, with Munster v Ulster now on both RoI and UK. The ommision of the "The Judgement Day" fixtures in Cardiff now also corrected - althought also on S4C and BBC TWO Wales, are now listed correctly as on Premier Sports 2.

Premier Sport appear now to have swapped Beneton v Edinburg and Stormers v Bulls between channels on the UK EPG. There would be no logical reason not to do this on the RoI version as there is now only one version of Premier Sport 2, so I put this down to the RoI EPG no being updated - the RoI versions shows the Beneton game on both 1 and 2 - makes no sense!

Sky have confirmed Premier Sports 2 is moving from 419 to 420 in Ireland on Monday

    https://helpforum.sky.com/t5/What-s-On/Changes-to-the-Sky-TV-Guide-June-2024/td-p/4649748

In the UK, PS 1 and PS 2 are currently on 419 and 420

It's still the same. It seems the Irish channel is an afterthought.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

yeah, Treviso v Edinburgh and Sharks v Bulls on both channels, and no sign of either Welsh URC games. The sensible thing to do would be to take both games off Premier 1, and put either Racing v Pau or Scarlets v Dragons instead. Then schedule Cardiff v Ospreys on Premier 2 at 5:30pm when it’s just showing repeats. Simples!

It’s like they don’t want the viewers, live sport they have the rights to show and a camera crew at the game - and they schedule repeats instead.

They still haven’t realised Toulon v Clermont is 5pm, not 6pm! It’s not like they’re showing anything before it that requires it to be delayed.

Stormers v Lions is on Premier Sports 2 instead of the listed Benetton v Edinburgh, so it’s anyone’s guess what’s showing later but I presume the Welsh games will be on Premier Sports 2.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

that’s exactly what’s happened, Sharks v Bulls on Premier 1, Scarlets v Dragons on Premier 2. All fun and games…

To be fair to Premier, one massive benefit of the reintegration of the UK operation is that we’ve got studio coverage back for most URC fixtures, Sharks v Bulls with Graham Rowntree from Dublin which would almost certainly have been whistle to whistle two months ago.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

and the Cardiff game airing on Premier 2.

While I’m delighted to see we got a full URC programme, they need to sort the advance schedules out, as they’re not reflecting the programmes actually being aired.

Is there another Graham Rowntree as Munster coach was surely in Limerick preparing his team for match vs Ulster?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Graham Little, of course! My bad.

Looks like Premier Sports will have scheduling issues again next weekend, a lot of Football friendlies on and the URC QF's as well.

Can you subscribe to the McGregor ppv on the app or is it only through sky?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

All will be covered by either RTE2 or TG4. Problem may be for viewers in GB who who might have to rely on PS App for Leinster vs Ulster and Glasgow vs Stormers games. According to Sky epg these are not on either PS 1 or PS 2 although this may change as there is no live event on PS1 on schedule for Saturday tea time or Saturday evening.

Noticed that there was no chase play in at least one of the feeds last weekend.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30 TonyK45

The EPGs may not have been updated, when you checked.

Munster v Ospreys on Premier Sports 2 (as well as RTÉ 2 and S4C)

Saturdays games all on Premier Sports 1 (both UK and RoI) The two early games also on (TG4) -

Saturdays - International Frendlies had already been scheduled some weeks ago, for Premier Sports 2.

Friday's Scotland Friendly on Premier Sports 1 (but also on BBC Three, and BBC Scotland)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,039 ✭✭✭Digifriendly

Sky UK Epg and Premier Sports UK schedule on their app still have no live coverage of Leinster vs Ulster or Glasgow vs Stormers on either of their linear channels.

Premier Sport's 2 'UK' transponder (Previously Viaplay 2) was switched off today leaving just one version of PS2 for Ireland and the UK .

There are still 2 separate transponders for Premier Sport's 1 allowing separate Irish and UK programming.

Presumably, this years Wimbledon coverage will be confined to Premier 1. Or maybe Premier 2 with UK blackouts like the olden days?

I mean it’s not a huge issue, most people with Premier likely also have BBC, but still.

  • Registered Users Posts: 386 ✭✭fman

The extra channel for Wimbledon would be more needed this year. The UK election happens slap bang in the middle of the tournament.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,736 ✭✭✭lertsnim

Even better would be some kind of red button coverage for extra streams like they do for the Premier League when they have multiple games to show. It would be especially nice seeing as we still don't access to their online player.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,587 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

They were at least supposed to have three red button streams on Sky last year.

From memory too, premier's coverage can be a bit unpredictable. I'm not sure what kind of world feed it is either. In the past, where possible there seemed to be some effort to show matches other than those covered by BBC but if BBC go a little off script you can find the oddity where one or other show court wasn't showing across any of maybe 4 channels.
