I've never in my life watched any of the Star Wars movies, and have forever received a shocked response when i've mentioned this.

Someone has given me the boxset and told me that i'm really missing out.

So I ask you all, is Star Wars really all that? Do you need to be a Sci Fi/Fantasy movie fan in order to like it?

Basically i'm wondering if I should bother me hole

Just watch them. The Original Trilogy anyway. You won't be disappointed.

The only good thing that came out of Star Wars is Chewie and light sabers.

If you're a nerd and love nerdy things then you'll love it. If not, then not so much.
    I can't stand it.

They regularly score highly in "Greatest Films of All Time" polls
Enough of a reason to check it out, i would have thought.

They're my favourite movies, so I'd definitely say check them out! Don't bother with NT, ignore them completely and pretend they don't exist.

My son absolutely loves StarWars and he's 11. He's loved them since he was about 6. I have watched a couple of the movies as he would have them on a lot but I never really thought much of them if I'm honest.

In fact there was one in the cinema a year or so ago (can't remember which one) in 3D and I brought him to see it and I fell asleep for most of it!! :o

    I think it's a male thing. ;)

That was the worst film of the six. IV, V and VI are classics and should be watched by everybody. The other three, while I really enjoyed them, I can see why some people don't.

Never seen them either. I've only met one other person who hasn't.

I'd say it would be a gigantic let down if you watch them now after all the hype.

    But sure I don't know.

I find the Star Wars films to be badly written, poorly acted pieces of juvenile cr@p and overrated in the extreme.

*but I'm in the vast minority, so what do I know :o

I think overall the three Star Wars films are great. The last one (Return of the Jedi) isn't as good as the other two, but is still very good.

I don't think you really need to be a big sci-fi fan to enjoy them. The story has an archetypal fairytale/myth structure, and the science isn't integral to the story at all.

Viewing order, not ranking in order of quality.

This way the prequels present themselves as flashbacks as you watch them between V and VI

Yeah okay. But a much better idea is just to pretend the prequels don't exist.

I think he means story wise so the 'revel' isnt ruined

    Edit: too late

So if I was to start watching them I really should start with 5 and 6?

    And then watch 1-4 afterwards?

  • Registered Users Posts: 546 ✭✭✭stretchdoe

I wouldn't say Star Wars is all that.
    It's a bit that.

You should follow a logical pattern.

Start with 1 (Star Wars), then 2 (The Empire Strikes Back), and 3 (The Return of the Jedi).

I adore the original trilogy because of my age. I was a kid when A New Hope was out and I grew up with them.

I can see why people of a younger generation are just thinking it's just another Sci Fi film(s) though

Start with 4-6 though. The prequels were just not as good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,443 ✭✭✭Bipolar Joe

OP, I would like to add that in this case, in my opinion, it is perfectly acceptable to download the trilogy. The only version I would ever pay money for is the Theatrical version. Avoid the altered ones like the plague.

I recently (couple of weeks ago) watched them all for the first time despite being 32. You'll find plenty of info on which order to watch them in and why but my advice would be to watch them in the order they were released.

Now, is it worth watching ET...?
