    No update on a the wifi from me but im sure you won't be able to stream anything at all with the limitations to youtube and streaming.

    What about the united airlines wifi? Will it be able for next summer on their 757's? Apparently its pretty fast. Although would that be the same over the ocean?

    All 330's are fitted with the equipment. 2 of the fleet have a different wiring config which doesn't get on with the satellite equipment, the others work fine.

    For safety reasons wifi service is switched off to avoid any confusion, that said there is no warning placard or warning tag on the switch (and said switch is not in the cockpit either)

    It will be sometime later this year before it is switched on, as the two 330's with the issue will have to wait until a scheduled maintenance check.

    This appears to be up and running and is free for now. Independent saying it will be charged at EUR10 per hour.

    I believe all the US carriers use ground based TV/internet systems....hence the lack of connectivity on Jetblue to the Caribbean and other airlines to Hawaii.

    There was a a news item on it on tonight's RTE six one.
    I presume/HOPE Skype etc is blocked but can you use what's ap? That has a new voicemail facility.

    Yeap.....you won't be face timing, looking at you tube etc, but general surfing the web, no probs. Flight radar 24 works well on it and you can see where your are and other aircraft near to you. I think it's cool.

    Does the clock run regardless of whether you're connected or is it solely based on connect time? Thinking of a situation where you might check e-mail and one or two websites and then disconnect a few times on a flight to the US i.e. connect for no more than 5-10 minutes at a time.

    It's still a 'coming attraction' on the EI website....

    I think it will countdown 60 minutes from time of activation. It auto disconnects after 15 mins and then you need to log back in and it displays how long you have left.

    Indeed,its something else alright.My first experience of it was on a virgin america flight from fll to lax a few years ago.
    We were watching the rte nine news at 37 or 38,000 ft above the gulf of Mexico.

    Its quite baffling that it has taken so long to have this. I would have thought that business travellers would have insisted on this service years ago.

    Some (cough cough) business travellers are quite happy to be disconnected for a few hours. Lack of interruption can actually help productivity. Modern businesses do have a tendancy to overuse instant messaging in order to get input on a decision that middle mngr's should be able to make themselves.

    Anyone got any ideas of price of texting?

    I searched twitter yesterday for details and nothing on it but what did catch my eye was only Vodafone users can text on it atm,Is this correct?

    It's satellite internet, it's not exactly cheap to provide. Most hotels charge more than 10 for 24 hours internet.

    I'm betting Norwegian won't get you to New York and back for 500 quid.

    If it's to cheap everyone would be using it, and then it probably wouldn't be worth using.

    Buying one account and giving other family members won't work, as when you login on the second device the first device disconnects.

    upthread,whatsapp works.

    Its a wifi connection,so how can a phone connect for sending and receiving texts? Other than webtexts of course.

    Southwest last year charged me $5 iirc for their onboard wifi.
    I'll be trying it out next month to Bos on Ei as I'm on an avios j redemption and its complimentary.
    What I'm keen on trying is google music,now that will be cool.
