Well how much would I be paying for them?

I want to get them and display them next to gameboys of the same colour. Seems like a cool idea. Plus I like to make a special effort for games that really influenced me when i was younger

€20-25 each would be the going rate for a good condition CIB copy.

Just for the office/man-cave organised - my small console setup.
    We have (anti-clockwise);
    • Sony 'Test' PS2
    • Sega Dreamcast
    • Sony PSX
    • Sega Megadrive
    • Nintendo SuperNES
    • Nintendo Gamecube - Running Mario Kart Double Dash
    • Microsoft 'Debug Kit' Xbox1
    • Sega Naomi 'cut down' cab, currently with Capcom Vs. SNK 2 via the NetDimm. A Naomi2 motherboard lurking in the bowels of the cab.
The television set is a nearly 10 year old Panasonic 32" CRT beast!

Very nice kerb! In fairness to you, you did a proper job with the cab respray. The black and white cp looks great and the matching stools.

Beautiful set-up for a bloody marvelous game; I daren't imagine how many hours I'd sink if I'd a similar rig.

    Absolutely love that cab!
Gonna shot you some q's about the netdim setup too,
Its something I'd love to have!

    What is this netdimm thing?

NetDimm is a kind of memory cart used in the Sega Naomi units in conjunction primary with a GDROM system. System turns on and dumps the game code from the GDROM into the RAM of the NetDimm. Its battery backed up RAM rather than a flash rom. Then your GDROM could power off, stops wear and tear and you have no loading times as the game sits in RAM. It stays in there as long as the RAM backup battery is powered. Its a rechargeable battery which the NetDimm charges but over time their ability to hold a charge drops. Again, only needed when powering off/on your cab/system.
To stop folks just copying the GDROMs they also employed security key chips which each GDROM game had. That key/chip would plug into the NetDimm as you changed in a game.
Folks have found a way of fooling the version of the NetDimm with the ethernet connection to accept a dump of a GDROM via its ethernet port, so you can drop on the majority of the Naomi collection (once it was released via GDROM) onto the RAM of your NetDimm and play like you would have with the GDROM version.
    I think thats everything?

The amp is up there in the shelving - don't think I will use it for the consoles.

So - what flash carts would folks recommend for the SNES and Megadrive and a supplier of such carts?

"Super Everdrive" and "Mega Everdrive" and sure you may as well get a "Turbo Everdrive" too :)
    I got mine from here

    Don't think I'd be needing a Turbo Everdrive :)
All out of stock, ah shucks...the waiting begins!

The full list of 'official' suppliers is here , failing that Ebay usually has some.

Here's an Everdrive MD in stock, just lash a shell around it,
    Spanish Everdrive MD, no shell

    And for the Snes
Spanish Super UFO Pro 8 for the Snes

Snes flash carts always have the same issues with games that use extra processors, so they ain't gonna work, although the above linked to cart does use a pass through to allow the running file to use a piggy backed cart with the appropriate extra hardware.
Unfortunately the different games use different DSP chips so if you haven't got the file paired with the right cart, it isn't going to work either, might as well buy the originals of the games that use them, likes of the Super FX games, Yoshis Island.

Anyone remember this cart test video a while back. Seemed amazing!

That pass through isn't for using the embedded chip in the cart - its for 'backing up' your carts to the SDCard. Works just as a overly complicated flash cart from the reviews I've seen.

SuperFX chip emulation within the cart would rock alright - doesn't look like its anywhere near complete though.

The search continues!!! Twill leave this thread for future photos of folks more awesome retro collections :)

Got some bits done on the Tetris cab im doing up, added the marquee and cpo now, sprayed the coin doors. just have to do the molding and side art on the other side, spray the speaker cover thing that goes over the cpo (my bro is getting a spraying machine to do that for me) the stick the tetris artwork on the glass and pop it back on. and add joysticks too and the coin rejecters back on, coming along well i think though.

I also fixed the light in my Time Crisis cab, the old one was melted so bought a 15 euro one in B&Q the weekend and put it in. pic below, looks weird because of the angle i think.

    Hmmm, tidy!

If someone comes along and swaps two or three around, do you become possessed with an intense desire to arrange them back, and then wash your hands 50 times? ;)

    Tidy for the picture :pac:
It didn't look like that yesterday.

    Well, it looks great.
There are some folks who think that because their collections are more specialised that they aren't as "retro" as other collectors, your collection puts pay to that idea, it's fantastic, and looks like you love the format.
My stuff is everywhere, all over the place and doesn't see an awful lot of play time, sadly.
A little focus goes a long way.

I have other retro consoles hidden away/neglected but I don't have the time, space or money at the moment to invest in them any further.

Every md collection has to have at least three copies of Sonic in it :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,539 ✭✭✭✭OwaynOTT

The only copy of sonic on md I have was gotten for free recently, should really rectify that. I do however have Sonic R and Sonic Adventure 2 (GameCube), makes up for it right?

@Proco Jr - liking the neatness, you've inspired me to actually unpack the rest of my stuff and get it set up. Currently just have a NTSC snes set up in living room with a few games sitting neglected since Fire Emblem entered my life.
