Yes, you can definitely still use your MBNA card. I've been using mine all week, without any issues.

Card still works, PIN still works, payments to the old system still work.

The only issue seems to be the website, and the change over.

It is absolutely disgracefull that avantcard have been allowed to take over mbna and still not have the website up and running. after weeks you can only now go on and check your balance. you still cannot see your transactions. half the time the website is down. it is impossible to get through to them on the telephone. they have given no indication as to when mbna users will or if they will get new credit cards. transferring money to pay your credit card bill takes 4 days.

would encourage everyone to get a new credit card as this crowd do not seem to give a damn about their customers.

I am so frustrated! I made a payment of €800 2 weeks ago. It went through but since the change over I cannot register my card or even get through on the damn phone to check my balance! I have no idea how much is left to pay off. I am infuriated by this. Anyone got any idea how to check the balance on a card?

I managed to FINALLY register after close on 10 attempts. I have a balance twice what I expected, so I think my card has been swiped, yet they can't tell me the transactions!!!!! What a fkn farce!

  • Registered Users Posts: 138 ✭✭makoten

Yeah, when you finally register and login here's what it shows

    Overview page
    "Coming soon...

Your recent and pending transactions will show here, please check back soon. "

    Statements page
    "Coming soon…

We are putting the finishing touches to your online statement. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. "

I rang 0818 409 511. There, on an automated type service I entered my card number and DOB and was given my balance, which was upto date. I then chose the option to hear my recent transactions from where i got speaking to a chap who read them out to me.

Inconvenient yes. The end of the world? No.

    Hopefully some movement:
We will be completing scheduled maintenance between 9pm and 12am this evening and this may cause disruption to our Online Banking and Telephone self-service system.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause

Okay so Can't log into Avant card again today.
It asks me for username and password ok. Then on the memorable word page where it ask for some of your characters the buttons are not working. So can't enter the characters. Paid off my balance early because of the bank holiday. I remember cases where it took more than 7 calender days for money to appear in my account if a payment felll some time shortly after the bank holiday.

I have logged onto my online banking with bank of ireland. Seems something is wrong with that too.
It is showing money debited from my account twice for two equal amount.
one listed as debit card, one listed as avant card.
Thing is my balance is right. All the balances when I look at march C/A online are higher than they should be. February statement looks fine. They is just a sudden leap of several hundred euros in my current account. The value is different than the avant card payment which is super weird. Not sure what else to do. Can't get to a bank tommorow so it will be tuesday of next week at the earliest when I will get to one.

I would suggest quietly applying for a card from an Irish Bank.
Then identifying regular payments to the old MBNA card and redirecting them to the new card. i.e. iTunes E-flow and Netflix
When absolutely sure that all is OK give them the Hasta la vista, baby.
A credit card company that can't get it's IT together should be avoided at all costs.
i had the experience today of finally contacting Irish staff and having to wait while they went off to someone else in some other part of the building to see what to do.
Someone pulled the plug in one of these sessions.
As my coronaries tightened, i decided I needed to be away from this company ASAP!
I feel sorry for the old MBNA staff in Leitrim, they were always competent and courteous but this changeover has left them as much at see as the cardholders.

I rang at 8 this morn and after 10mins I was told im registered, yet its telling me " this page is not available" ffs

I’m finding it impossible to activate my renewal. Phone goes dead, the web site doesn’t work. Finally called the lost card dept and the guy there said he would transfer me to someone who would help. Got through to this guy who got highly indignant that I was put through to him. He wouldn’t help me and told me I had to ring the activation number on the card and wouldn’t believe me when I said it wasn’t working.

Fortunately my Tesco credit card is my main card and if I cannot get things sorted with AvantCard tomorrow I’m going to chop up the card and put it in the bin. What a shambles.

It's a joke, I was told yesterday that I could pay my bill online or over the phone using my Debit card. Tried doing it this morning and it wouldn't work online and the opertor couldn't do it over the phone. They won't take Mastercard Debit cards (as issued by EBS).

Can't pay online because EBS and Avantcard systems aren't compatible either. Think I'll be moving all my banking to BOI or AIB so I can get everything (Credit, Debit cards and current A/C) from a single provider.

    Don't speak too soon!
I managed to register early on, OK for a few days. then would't accept it. tried too often. exceeded the number of attempts allowed.
rang the infamous number, listened to the lady giving me a whole lot of stuff I didn't want to hear yet again.
I was told everything was OK.
    Was it, hell.
I thought of reregistering, the young lady reckoned that seemed the way to go.
No way, I was recognised as previously registered.
it would appear that at this stage, they basically will spin you any old yarn to get you off the phone.
I am not surprised at today's story in the Indo.
    Be afraid, be very afraid!

Exact same thing with me. Was hilarious they tried to say that the reason they were having trouble was due to DDOS Attack... no it is because you didn't think adding extra servers was the way to go.
Then they said I should try it again. I did. Says my info is incorrect. She said:

    1. Info is incorrect.
    2. Just an error.
    3. Maybe register a new account for each card.
Goes and talks to manager... yeah right
    4. Says go into account add new card.
    5. Same error msg she says just try again in a few hours.
    6. Points out I have done this many many times for days.
    7. Well lets try registering again...

Oh my god. -facedesk- Honestly they know nada!!!

I cancelled my MBNA card over a year ago and have been whittling down my balance since then. I chopped up the card ages ago. I have no idea of the number of CV2 number anymore to re-register my card with Avant :/

Can anyone help me here?? I have been trying to purchase goods on line and after I check out and put everything through, my MasterCard goes through the final secure checkout procedure. At this point, I cant complete my purchase. Each time I put in my username, it keeps telling me it is invalid. I have entered the same user name that I log into my account with. Is it not the same thing?? It is certainly one way to stop me spending I suppose, but as this is the second transaction that I have been unable to complete, I am getting a little annoyed now. It is also asking for a personal message (no idea or any explanation as to what this is??) Confused!!

Cant even be bothered to ring Avantcard as its a waste of time and money.

Same thing happened to me! I have a card closed because I took out a loan. I explained this and was told "what are we supposed to do? just use the paper transactions" I mean that is ridiculous I had it on my MBNA account.

The Mastercard 3D secure, which is what I think you mean, is not the same as your credit card web log on account. You would have set this up when you first used it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 born 2 shop

Thanks NothingMan. Yes, it is the 3D secure I am talking about. Tried again with no luck and you have to call customer services for inquiries. Tried for the 3rd time and chose the 'activate later' option and sale completed right away. Now, I'm left wondering if I have to activate my card somewhere?? Have been with MBNA 16 yrs and purchase online constantly without any problems up to this.

Kay this is what they say on their site: http://www.avantcard.ie/Pages/Help_and_support.aspx?i=136

Basically if/when or you can register your account, when you login they have a second on the right side. It asks if you want to register for 3D secure. Now i did do this once but I forgot. I think if it comes up again it may ask if you forgot your info and you can give some select answers about credit limit and all that, it should then allow you to reregister. You don't really need to do it but it is a good idea as it is meant to stop people from defrauding you. To be honest if you can do it stick to using something like Paypal to pay through. Much safer when it comes to paying that way.

The Indo has a piece of this today, funny how the paper reports thousands of customers have been affected and mbna/avant claim only a small number are experiencing issues! :

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/thousands-of-customers-hit-as-stores-reject-mbna-credit-cards-29159899.html

"THOUSANDS of MBNA credit card customers are having their cards rejected in shops, cannot access online accounts and are unable to pay bills, it has been revealed."

"AvantCard apologised and confirmed that over the weekend of March 17 it had switched the former MBNA Ireland credit card business to AvantCard.

"Following the migration a small number of customers have experienced issues with registering onto our website and with using their old credit card where a new card had been reissued to them."

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 born 2 shop

Aha, now I know what it is. I hadn't registered for the 3D secure bit. However, in trying to do just that now, it won't accept any password, in spite of the fact that I am conforming with the required amount of letters/numbers/caps etc. Think I had read on this forum earlier in the week that some people had the same issue. Will leave it a few days and maybe try it again. Thanks for the help.

The site looks as if it was slapped up in MS Sharepoint, trying to load Name ActiveX control and other such rubbish. Most times, I can log on to it and get the top and bottom of the page, but thats about it!

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

Sorry to butt in at the end of a long thread, but hopefully I'll be able to get an answer.

I've always paid my mbna balance using the online banking provided by AIB.I decided to use my visa debit to pay this month as everything seems to be up in the air. I've managed to get my account set up with avantcard, but now when I try to pay by visa debit, I get an error saying the details entered do not match those on file.

My payment is due by 04/04/13 and I dont want to run the risk of having a late payment. Does anyone know if I can just uses AIBs online banking like I did when it was mbna? or do i have to go setting something up again?

    any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Stone Deaf 4evr, assuming you have the correct cc details on AIB online banking (and not an old card, this happened to me) it should work fine.

I would advise if your are doing a credit transfer (as in a standing order type of payment) you can use the exact same account number that they gave before. Just to confirm the numbers and the sort code I was told these are correct:
    Bank account #: 90001059
    Sort Code: 93-20-86
Your credit card number (as in the one your paying) has to be in the reference field that is sent to the person.

lol I know right, I mean shesh I self taught myself how to make a site and it looks better than that piece of crap. Hell can't they pay someone a few hundred to get a fair design that works? XD

My statement should have been posted on Monday gone, as of today I still haven’t got it and won’t have it until Tuesday at least. Also I can’t view statement of recent transactions online although I was promised on 2 occasions it would be working Thursday.
I called twice on Thursday. First lady told me it’s fixed and to try and log in.
Called back later after trying and was speaking to the most obnoxious man.
I asked for a statement to be emailed to me as I need it as a matter of urgency.
System says no. cant do that.
I asked can he take screen shots and email them to me.
System says no, cant do that either.
Can I speak to a manager?
System says no. But one will call me back on Tuesday if I really want to speak to one.
    Can I close my account?
System says no as I have a balance, we can close it when you pay it off.
I can’t pay it off as I have no statement!!!!
"Sir I can see this call is going nowhere" then hangs up.

Dismal service. I only used them as I got pigsback points. now as that’s gone I was going to change to Tesco , but lack of online ability with them is putting me off.
Any other reward card with online accounts?

I cant wait to close this. Worst take over ever. so under prepared and unprofessional , it sets a bad tone for the future.

Absolute incompetents Avant, they've lost one customer here.
