Played Rosse's Point yesterday on a gorgeous day of the blue sticks. Shot 74. Course is in great condition at the moment. Should be a real test for the West Next week

    2nd round of the year
    Clean and place everywhere
1 ball lost off the tee and one into water hazard
    4 double bogeys
    7 bogeys
    5 pars
    2 birdies
Off 18 so delighted, 41points, good while since I had two birdies.
New driver settling in, 31 putts, clutch putts saved me on a few holes today.

    was he marking your card?

Yup, was supposed to be a 3 ball with a mate but he couldn't make it. I know I should report him, he signed the card and walked off. Card was at nothing though, so I'll let it off. I'm in a new club so I'm not sticking in my oar from the off,but yeah it's sickening.

I would have no problem reporting him for that.
An absolute dickhead of the highest order seem as though it was be side he was playing bad and not an emergency.

My round at Rosses on Wednesday in the West Qualifier.

Wanted to write this down in words and what better place than where I can be ridiculed endlessly than Boards.ie :)

    Par 71 - 92 Strokes - 5 handicap : 87 Nett!

    How it happened.

It was a beautiful day. Cold, but unreal sunshine. A far cry from what I left behind in Athlone. 3 inches of snow. There was one small problem with the day. a vicious east wind that was blowing straight into us standing on the first tee AND i had hardly picked up my clubs in the last two weeks :)

Felt great, standing on the first tee. My two playing partners were off scratch and i hit a lovely drive down the left hand side of the fairway. And that's when the fun started....... :)

1st hole [par4] : Good drive, finds a deep divot. Nudge it 100 yards up the fairway and lo and behold, another deep divot. Just about manage to make the edge of the green in 3 and....3 putt from 60 feet. = 6 ( Double Bogey ) :)

2nd hole [par4] : Good drive, but into the wind and hit a full 6 iron from 130 yards, finished just off the front left edge. Pin cut just above a ridge in the front of the green, hit a good chip, but the wind catches it, ball gets to the very top of the ridge and rolls back off the front of the green and into the front left bunker. (LOL) - Hit a great bunker shot, but again, gets to the top of the ridge and rolls back into the bunker. Hammer my 5th shot to the back of the green and 2 putts = 7 ( Triple Bogey ) :D

3rd hole [par5] : Downwind, rip my drive down the middle of the fairway. Thinking, easy 5 wood - TOP! - but because its links golf, the ball roles to 90 yards from the green and Im thinking easy gap wedge to the green. Another top, ball goes into one of the deepest bunkers on the course but has so much momentum it runs clean through the bunker and onto the middle of the green! - SHOT OF THE DAY! - handy 2 putt = 5 ( Par ) ;)

4th hole [par3] : My two playing partners got into a bit of difficulty with the wind so I tried to hold a 5 iron up into it. I miss-hit it and the ball finished 30 yards short of the green and right. Take out my putter, ball just about gets onto the green and my playing partners say great shot! but then the ball inexplicably gathers speed. my two playing partners start screaming at the ball to stop... STOP.....STOP!!!!!!! By the time I have walked up the hill to the green, the wind and slope of the green have rolled my ball 50 yards over the green over by the 5th tee. Unreal! - chip on, 2 putt = 5 ( Double Bogey ) :P

5th hole [par5] : great drive, great second, good chip, lip out for the birdie = 5 ( Par )

6th hole [par4] : Another great drive ripped down the middle. hit 7 iron for my second, wayyyyyy right. 20 yards right of the green but pin high, I take out putter and its going great and then it keeps going and going and going. Make a great putt for par that lips out = 5 ( Bogey )

7th hole [par4] : a friend of mine warned me, If you miss your tee shot or the wind is into you, dont even think about going for it in two. Wind was into us. Hit drive down the middle. Laid up with a mid iron, knocked my third onto the green and 2 putts = handy 5 ( Bogey )

8th hole [par4] : playing downwind, rip my drive over the corner, hit a beautiful 8 iron for my second that is tracking bang on line. Ball lands in the middle of the green and travelling up hill, ball travels an extra 20 yards over the green. Make a great putt down to 5 feet, but miss the putt = 5 ( Bogey )

9th hole [par3] : Slice, Block and Push my tee shot right. Ball never to be seen again. Almost do the same with my provisional. Find the provisional. Play a pretty good chip and down in 2 putts = 6 ( Triple Bogey )

10th hole [par4] : Great drive, Great second, but its unlucky cause it gets a bad bounce and kicks well left. Average chip on, 2 putts = 5 ( Bogey )

11th hole [par4] : Cream my drive, Great second and we're all convinced its gone in when it disappears by the pin. We high-5 all the way up. I walk up to retrieve my ball from the hole and..... its not there. Instead it has rolled through the green into an awful lie. Hack out, 2 putts = 5 ( Bogey )

12th hole [par5] : Another ripped drive that inexplicably finds the bunker on the left - none of us have any idea how, but we chalk it down to thats how my luck is just going today :) I chip out and hit a great 7 iron that pitches right in the middle of the green, but this is links, so naturally its fooked. Surely I've learned my lesson by now ?????? Chip on from the back of the green and 2 putt.

    13th hole [par3] : Awful tee shot. great chip down to 4 feet, missed putt ;) = 4 ( Bogey )

14th hole [par4] : This is where I remembered how to play golf. Wonderful drive down the middle, great 7 iron to 20 feet, 2 putts!!!!! OH MY F**KING GOD A PAR! = 4 ( par )

15th hole [par4] : Another great drive. My playing partners are staring at me in disbelief... ( where did this hacker learn how to hit the ball ? ) - Another great 7 iron to 20 feet. 2 putts!!! - another par! = 4 ( par )

16th hole [par3] : I really thought i learned how to play links golf. drill a low 4 iron towards the green, ball lands 10 yards short of the green and stops stone dead. /boggle. Poor chip, 2 putts. = 4 ( bogey )

17th hole [par4] : Best drive of the day, still have 190 to the green and think to myself, there's no way I'll top the 5wood again, Surely ???? - topped it. Hit a great third shot though. Ball catches the front of the green and rolls back 80 yards down the fairway - Cheers! - pitch on, 2 putts = 6 ( Double Bogey )

18th hole [par4] : The Stroke saver said, "AIM for the stone". I didnt notice the stone on the left and saw the stone on the right. Almost hit the ball out of bounds. Get the ball back in play and another poor chip leaves me 15 feet for par = 5 ( Bogey )

So there you have it. A long winded way of saying, I played okay, got unlucky a couple of times, couldnt chip for shiite

To those who have read this all, I'm sorry but I regret nothing :)

I think it was the fact his new driver cost him so many shots. Beautiful Cobra Ram which I got the full infomercial on on the third fairway-not worth a shit to him. That and my chip in on the 3rd for birdie to keep the lower H/Cer (him) off the box for 5 holes:pac:

thats a fairly detailed account Ricky? Why not touch the clubs for 2 weeks before such a big event. I love Rosses but have only played in on relatively calm days and off the whites. Must have been some experience off the championship tees. Had you played there before?

Ya how come no practice for 2 weeks or even a trip to play a links course?

    Never played there before :)

I'm doing a Masters in college. I had assessments and exams coming out of my ass in the 2 weeks leading up to Rosses and I was away the weekend before it aswell.

It was some experience. If I had a short game, I could easily have shot around 80.

76 and 79 - They were both going really well until the last 5 holes and well within a shout but when I started playing well, they started playing not so good :)

    @keano - See above ^^
