45pts off my new handicap of 16 today. equalled my best round of golf on my home course +6. was +2 goin onto the 10th..then bogey, double bogeyd the next 2 holes..took a breather and started to get my head back in the game. back to back birdies on 14 & 15 got good points on the board.

i didn,t strike the ball all that well strangely. i got lucky with some bladed pitch shots which landed on the green and stayed due to mega back spin. i was in 4 bunkers today which ive not hit before. another handicap reduction coming next week me thinks.

Logged into golfnet this morning to find i had ben cut again following yesterdays winning round..this time i was cut -2.5. my handicap is now down to 13 exact. cut 3.9 in the last week! delighted in one sense. im sure i can get reach my target of 11.5 for the year. this will take a little adjustment though. gona have to put in some more practice!

Shot 69 nett in round one of player of the year.....no wait then I woke up to discover frost delay which with parade later for kids meant no golf today and missed first big comp of season........grrrrrrr.

34 points in blustery wet conditions, very happy with that, didn't play great but grind'ed out a respectable card.
I got back .2 over the winter (both on days the dog wouldn't even go outside) so need work on losing some .1's

37 points off 12 in open singles in Rathcore yesterday. First time playing there on a horrible day so fairly pleased with that. Left a few out there though. Nice track, will have to get back there during the summer.

Best ever round is +4. Standing on 18th tee at +1 today thinking anything but a scratch. You know what happens next ..... Even so, 43 points off 11 around Shannon for 17 holes ain't so shabby. 4 birdies

It was in the team of four so no cut this week but the March Medal might be the one to get down to single figures. I hope so anyway, short game has come on a mile thanks to golfpimp!

It's not Mike anyway keano... he played with us today but after a hectic Paddy's night i would safely say he doesnt even remember the front 9.
Playing next Sunday at around 12, we've work society outing on Saturday.
Hahahaha aj... Golfpimp is a new recruit to boards.ie. Work colleague of mine and believe me I've given him plenty of stick over his username. Or should I say cane instead of stick... That's what pimps use right?

37 pts today in open singles off 11 but non counting. 10 pars, 6 bogeys and 2 doubles. First medal next week. Looking forward to it

Thought i was building a bit of momentum following 39points up with 33 last week, brought back down to earth with a bang.

Played the open in Naas GC yesterday, put in a personal worst of 19 points. Embarrassing stuff, scratched nearly half the course. Couldnt get to grips with the saturated course and made nothing on the greens.

The only positive i can take is that i dont think its possible to play that badly again (i hope).

Greatest day of my golfing life yesterday.

Started with 3 bogeys. Then followed that with 3 great up and downs for pars.
A run of pars to the 11th then.

    12th birdie
    13th par
    14th birdie
    15th birdie
    16th par
    17th par up and down

On the 18th level matching my best ever round from over a year ago.

8iron to the green hit as clean as I've ever hit a ball. Below the hole 10ft or so.

1 putt for first ever under par round. Took the break out of most of it and just smashed it. Hammered the back of the cup. Nearly came out but dropped in the end.

    -4 on the back 9!!!!
Skipping all the way home :)

    I'm retiring now!

    Hands up who read

through the gaps of their fingers!!!
I certainly did, thought a double or a treble was gonna pop up, well done on holding it together.

Wasn't going to post it, but what the heck.

26 points around Ballybunion, Old Course, yesterday.
Have come to terms with the score now, we were treated to a days golf that will be hard matched.

The red on my face is from sunburn, not embarrassment.

    Fair play... Super shooting.
Oh man do I feel like a bottler after reading that hahahaha
Same scenario on 18th tee, very different result

Memories of my 95 from last May(even though that was on the new course) coming back, cheers for that AJ :P

Played my first 18 hole competition of the year on home course on Monday. 4 man team event, so a relaxing way to kick off the proper comps!

We had 90 points, with 3 to score on the par 3s and 2 everywhere else. We made hay on the par 3s (I managed a pair of 2s alone) but struggled on the holes into he wind. Too many 2 and 3 pointers, thrown in there with hauls of 8 and 9 and even a 10 pointer on the par 3 7th! Won't feature in the prizes but a few encouraging swings, something to take into next week.

I honestly treated the putt as if it was life or death. No way in hell was I pulling out of it or leaving it short. I'd rather 3 putt than leave it short and give it no chance of dropping.

another example today of what has become typical for me. 1 over for a run of 6 holes but...

    100 blows.
    8/14 fairways.
    4/18 greens.
    1 birdie,
    5 pars.
    4 scratches.

real struggle with the short game today, 4 efforts to get out of one particular bunker. if I got out of position it spelt trouble, a few holes I just missed or failed to hold the green in regulation and didn't score.

Like many others, my heart sank when I read the bit in bold.

What handicap are you playing off?

First game in yonks on Saturday, bed at 2am on Friday night was not clever when up before 7 on Saturday. Was very frosty at my house in Castleknock, but I play in Greystones so not usually to bad beside the sea. Got a text about 7:45 when I was nearly there to say course closed and inspection at 9:30 but I went down anyway. Lucky, cause there had been a quick thaw and we got out at 8:20.

Shanked off the first tee (par 3) leaving my hands numb in the freezing cold. Tough to get up and down from where I was and left myslef a monster putt which i left 2 rolls of the ball short. Second hole chip was awful, going like a train but luck struck and the ball hit the flag and stopped dead, tap in par. Lost a ball to the gorse on the 4th so 3 off the tee still managed a 6 for a point. Nice 15 footer on the 5th for a 2 and (if I do say so myself) a fantastic flop shot chip in from a blind shot way below the hole on 8 for another birdie. Out with 21 points and was extactic considering the lack of golf, the lost ball and leaving 3 putts on the lip. Tired... who's tired..

On to the back nine, Slice off 10, good recovery followed by another slice, oh oo.... I never recovered, managing only 3 pars on the back 9 and 6 shockers, coming home with a measily 11 points.

Lesson learned to it will be Bed (very) early this friday for the trip to tipp!

    5 at the moment.

I haven't really been looking like even getting near the score I had lately.
    The putting just clicked.

Reality check next day out no doubt ha

Two solid rounds over the long weekend, unfortunately just missed out on prizes in both events. Ball-striking is good, putting is improving but still letting me down at times.

On Saturday, Easter Hamper singles competition - 39 points off 13, which included 3 birdies and 2 scratches. Missed out in the prizes by a point.

On Monday, 4-man team event - scramble, tenth of combined handicap to count, the team had to use at least 3 tee-shots from each player. Our handicap was 3.6, we shot 10 under gross, which was 56.4 nett. Three prizes given out, the third placed team had 56.4, which means we missed out on some sort of count-back! Tough luck!

It was the last weekend of placing on fairways/dropping in rough in my club, so looking forward to trying to get the handicap down starting next weekend.
