Generally yes, it'd take a fierce storm to have it called off, maybe a little less. If it's just moderate rain it'll still go ahead, it might be a dampener for some but actually I don't mind it too much. You'll quickly forget about the rain and it cools you down as well! :D

sunny with the odd occasional light shower is perfect gig weather imo

seems to me like Slane better watch out for ye!

Quick question, what were GnR like live back in the day?

Something else, wasn't the original line up in Slane as Adler had already left, but still something to behold, ya never knew what would happen wit them.

Seen the originals at Donington in 88, they were booked in the Feb as a second opener on the bill, to play at 2pm, by the time the gig came round in August they were massive, but stayed second as the line up was steller.

They expected 72,500 people but 107,000 turned up and seemingly all of them were watching GnR at 2pm.

2 fans died in the crush at the front :(:(

    awesome post!

I'd say they must have been fantastic. they were a cocky bunch but had so much confidence and swagger when they played. Brute force id imagine. Twas great that the bands popularity exploded and everybody made it for the "matinee"
    show :D

A very exciting time to be a rock fan in those days.

Are you looking forward to checking out Eminem?

I concur 100% but if you go with an open mind you'll witness a fantastic show I promise you that. I would consider going if I didnt have a wedding on that weekend tbh and rap is nowhere near any of my playlists.

We should probably take this conversation elsewhere before some Swedish House Mafia fans roll on up here and stab us for no apparent reason

This intrigues me. If that was the case why come on here just to say that? I mean I dont like say Metallica so I would skip a thread on them rather than just waste space with your type of post?

I never came on here to just say that, a guy asked about GnR at Slane so i replied, in his reply to me he asked if i was gonna go see Eminem, to which i replied, so no, i didn't come here just to wind people up, i leave that for AH ;)

    Not a hope in hell.
And i'd imagine there'll be strict searches. Either drink before you head, or have ID to buy inside :)

Not a hope you can bring alcohol in, will prob be searched going in too, bag searches, quick frisking etc.. And, apparently, your only allowed to bring water if you take the cap off the bottle!!Personally, I wont be drinking alcohol to avoid going to the bathroom too often :p

For anyone who is going from Dublin to the gig. I e-mailed Dublin Bus about bus times and prices. this is a link and the reply they sent me:

    http://www.dublinbus.ie/en/Your-Journey1/Getting-To-Events/Eminem-at-Slane-Castle-17th-August-2013/

Dublin Bus: "Tickets for €20.00 have to be purchased before the day of concert from Dublin Bus . Tickets purchased on the day will be €25.00. You cannot pay the driver on the day, you have to purchase the ticket from our office at 59 Upr O’Connell St. before boarding ."

Ticketmaster charge €2.50 per ticket so not really any point in buying them there imo, just get them in the office on the way up to parnell sq.

I'm heading up from Kerry , never been to Slane before. Is there a pit? is it usually a first come first serve situation for pit passes/bands like at most gigs?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,558 ✭✭✭dobman88

Group of us going from Killarney on the Friday night, heading to Slane early Saturday morning and hope for the best. Don't know the official story with pit/passes etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,827 ✭✭✭Prodigious

A friend lives in slane so a few of us are sleeping at his and will head to the concert at 8am probably.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 106 ✭✭DsJewel

8am? Jesus., I won't be getting there til a good few hours after that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 835 ✭✭✭kingcobra

8am is fairly early alright, the gates won't open til 2 or so. I think getting there for 3 or 4pm is plenty of time. You'll be absolutely wrecked by the time Eminem comes on if you head up too early.

Gates at Slane open at 3. If Kings of Leon was anything to go by you will be right up near the front if you're there at the gate opening time. I'd be absolutely knackered by the time Eminem comes around if I have to be up there at 2 or 3 to get into the pit. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,558 ✭✭✭dobman88

We're getting a bus from Dublin about 1ish so I presume we would be there about 2 or 3pm. Like has been mentioned, don't want to get there too early and be wrecked. To be honest I don't care where I am in the concert cos I had tix last time when he cancelled so I'm just delighted to be finally seeing Eminem.

How are tickets for this selling?

More or less than Bon Jovi?

Wow! I worked at the Bon Jovi gig. I was put on toilets (stewarting) and they were mental. I wouldnt want to have double the people there.

It's worth it though because usually the people who know how good the pits are at concerts get their earlier to ensure pit passes and the vibe and buzz in the pit will make you untired. Plus the adrenaline rush you will get from Eminem coming on stage will definitely get rid of your tiredness.

Camping in Slane Farm Hostel Cottages and Campsite for the weekend should be good plus its a bargain at 25E for the weekend. Will def have pit passes makes gig more fun. You would be surprised how much energy you get when the main act comes been to plenty of gigs and have never been tired for main act .
. Only thing be interested to will his new album be out by then if its not will it just be a greatest hits set.

Seriously can't wait for this now, 10 years since seeing him first at the ripe oul age of 15, and this will be the third time now and he has yet to disappoint, always a great show :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 354 ✭✭Alanhooly

I'm trying to save up money for a trip to Oz so i'm trying to save a bit of coin at the minute. I have my ticket got for the concert but I am seriously considering selling it (when I take into account travelling from Laois, travelling home, buying drink, the money I would get for the ticket etc.) because it would save me a bit of money.

Has anyone that has ever seen Eminem before convince me to just go or is it not worth the hassle?

I tend to be quite indecisive ;)

Will be getting a bus back to Dublin city centre and I'm just wondering to see wether or not I would be in time for the last bus back to Cork at 10:30PM or will I have to get accomodation in Dublin ?

Any info will be of use !
