The teaser trailer surely will come before the new year. According to this site it's already been made.

    Thanksgiving I bet.

I love it, simply because it screams wonder/awe/adventure/new horizons and a new hope in the leads and the force awakening perhaps accidentally (maybe the force is not some benevolent thing, but an actual 3rd party entity)that would also fit with the whole Lucas quotes about makin the ST more ambigious when it comes to the good/bad approach.. the power of the Force as an ambiguous one, problematic one; maybe Luke finding out finally that using the Force (in a good or bad way doesn't matter) is directly linked to the rise of violence and war? and even trying to use it in a good sense almost certainly creates an imbalanced situation where evil forces rise also... maybe Luke finding out there was some sense in his fathers approach to end all wars (and eventually end all force-using) by supporting an imperial political structure.

Clearly going to delve into the buddhist spiritualism of the OT and I could see a KOTOR style universe emerging after the buddhist style force dwindling for centuries as it did even in the PT (where it was used as a scientific tool of war as opposed to the humble/quaint individual learning through themselves)

It also seems meta in the sense that Lucasfilm/Disney are stating this time we're back to stay (indie film Lucasfilm is over). Star Wars is "the force awakened." It's being resurrected and brought back (to some people). It almost feels its the first film in 30 years

It sounds like the tag line to a Star Wars porn spoof.

The Force awakened to enough of an extent for the midichlorians to create Anakin Skywalker, so perhaps that's what it's alluding to?

A poster on io9 by the name Gothamite 88 made a very interesting point, which I'm inclined to agree with.

    Quote:
I love this because it actually adheres to the unspoken naming pattern we've seen in all six movies so far:

First Movie: Vaguely Defined Entity - A New Hope/The Phantom Menace/The Force Awakens

Second Movie: Battle or War - The Empire Strikes Back/Attack of the Clones

Third Movie: Reemergence of Foe Thought Vanquished -Return of the Jedi/Revenge of the Sith

I really don't get the confusion over the force awakening.

PT - Force was at it's peak with Jedi policing the galaxy. By the end of the PT, the Sith had eradicated nearly all the Jedi.
OT - The force is described by Solo as "a lot of simple tricks and nonsense". It is wielded by an old man, a kid, Vadar and the Emperor. It is old world magic, the stuff of legend and fairytale. At the end of the OT, there is only Luke remaining. The rebels may have won but the "force" had never been so dormant.

SW VII : The Force Awakens clearly alludes to, IMO, a resurgence in the force of some kind. We've all speculated that Luke is living on some remote world, isolated from the galaxy. Something must happen to bring him back. People in the galaxy are finding/wielding the force again whether for good or (most likely) evil. "The Force" never went away, it was the knowledge and use of the force that disappeared from the galaxy.

I dare you to say that the oh-so-precious Empire Strikes Back was a good title. It's not really thought out.

I'm definitely warming to it. And one of the reasons is that after all these years it's just great to have 'The Force' mentioned in a Star Wars film title.

Hate the title but really it doesnt matter, its all about the film

In fairness, all the subtitles of Star Wars have been pretty crap.

Shouldn't the thread title be "Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens"?

Shouldn't the thread title be "Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens"?

Apparently they have deliberately dropped the Roman Numerals.

Shouldn't the thread title be "Star Wars Episode VII - The Force Awakens"?

Should it not be "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"? I haven't seen any mention of "Episode 7/VII" in any of the promo material

    Can't wait to see it

New Isaac Newton bio coming out - The Gravity Awakens!

"Episode 7" is silly and will never stick. Star Wars and roman numerals have been bedfellows for nearly 40 years. These will always be Episodes VII, VIII and IX. I smell marketing / focus group nonsense.

Other than the lack of roman numerals I like it,

The opening crawl will have "Episode VII". The Roman numerals make sequels more classy, like Saw VII or The Hangover Part III.

When I saw Star Wars at the cinema, there was none of this Episode IV nonsense on the opening crawl. A New Hope, indeed! Bah, young people today.

Not a huge fan of the title, but they're possibly dropping the Roman Numerals to disassociate this from the prequels.

    Lads, i have a theory..

maybe it's a slight, both on Lucas and the prequels...

The force was missing, now it's back, sit down and we'll blow your head off

Probably afraid of confusing the audience or something

Star Wars needed to avoid another Something of the Something title, since that's already half the films. And it needed to avoid Star Wars: Episode VII: Whatever, as that's cumbersome and inherently prequel-y. And it really needed to avoid Star Wars: Episode VII: Something of the Something. I'm okay with The Force Awakens so long as it turns out to be relevant to the actual content of the movie in some meaningful way.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,699 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Agreed. I'm also glad they stayed away from Star Wars: Episode VII: Something Something Jedi. Star Wars: Episode VII: Whatever beneath the Something would have been awful too and don't get me started on Star Wars: Episode VII: Something of Whatever Something Something in the Something. I for am happy they went with Star Wars: Episode VII: The Whatever Something.

The porno version won't have to change the name too much: "Star Wars: A Force Awakens" :D

    ah heereee !!!

They are removing the roman numerals ??? wtf ....

ridicolous ... dumbing down things ridiculously.

As a Family Guy fan, I'm disappointed they didn't go down the route of "STAR WARS: Something something something Darkside something something something Complete

    Jackpot

This much angst over a bloody title? FFS, talk about geek level 99. Sci-Fantasy really does generate some amount of nerd rage, over the smallest things

Its a lot more marketable without Episode VI. Not worth getting worked up about.
