Flooding in new Ross this morning at rosbercon and part of the quay in new Ross.
The river was so high that the boats at the new boat club were actually higher than the road. The water was kept back by the elevated man made banks.
There were also cattle and horses standing in fields full of water which were later taken out of the field.

High tide tonight in new Ross is for about 8pm.
    More flooding tonight?
The river barrow is very choppy at the moment and its low tide. I reckon more flooding tonight.

Can clearly see low pressure centre and circulation just off Mizen Head now. http://www.sat24.com/en/gb

Just light showers here this afternoon. Total rain since midnight now stands at 30.8mm.

Seeing as the tide around midnight tonight will be even higher than that at lunch time today, and possibly coupled with winds I can see the south quays in Dublin getting flooded, from City quay down.

I think Cork is much more at risk than Dublin this evening as winds are pretty much due south and blowing gale force at the moment off the south coast which will back up a lot of water in Cork Harbour.

Dublin is at risk of some coastal flooding but would be more so at risk with an easterly wind.

But Dublin and the east coast can flood due to the channeling effect of the winds between Wexford and Wales, building up a surge along the Irish Sea. This occured with the Irishtown flooding a few years ago.

The latest from the Celtic Sea is that we had a gust of 64 knots about 10 mins ago, windspeed now averaging in the low to mid 50's. Max roll stands at 27 Degrees. A few showers recently as well, most moving through at about 35 to 40 knots. Pressure is at 984mB.

The pics can hopefully give a small impression of what its like out here at the moment.

Great photos. Can I ask if your windspeed is measured or estimated as low to mid 50s would seem too high for the pressure gradient and other local reports. Another ship is reporting 32 kts, while the Marathon platform is only registering 46 kts at its height of 120 metres above sea level.

A lot of city streets already closed in Cork with high tide another half an hour away. I've a feeling the flooding could be quite severe tonight, mainly due to the high tide

Just like to point out that Casement reached its annual mean rainfall total yesterday and that every drop that fell since midnight (20mm+) ....and for the next 11 weeks.....will be in excess of the mean.

However up to midnight last night Belmullet had not even hit 30% of monthly mean and might only make 33% by tonight. Claremorris was at 33% at midnight last night. Oak Park was not much higher ( but got a better soaking) and we are half way through October. :)

October is the wettest month of the year from Malin to Valentia and looks like being utterly unremarkable on the west coast ....save for its overall dryness. The most westerly station 'on trend' to have an average months rainfall is Shannon and Athenry.

And depite the complaining from that direction Cork Airport is. behind its long term trend for the year and looks set to come in below average for annual rainfall ...even after today. :)

The low pressure centre approaching Cork (city) now will also add to potential flooding, raising water levels further (in addition to the gale blowing straight into the harbour mouth).

Could be a wet one in the city this evening!

Majority of Cork City now closed off as flood waters rise further.
    High tide around 7:40pm

Thanks. The windspeed comes from an anemometer mounted on the rigging about 20 metres asl. It was only that high for about 20 to 30 mins as some showers passed through the area. It is back down to around the low to mid 40's now, with the occasional stronger gust.

The rain falling around Ballsbridge at the moment is pretty staggering, this shower has only been going for five minutes an there is already plenty of surface water on the roads.

I would still maintain that even low 40s is on the high side and the wild to and fro movement of the rigging is adding to the measured speed. The readings will be more reliable in calmer seas.
