I disagree Ezri. Like I say, the licence entitles the bearer to hunt and kill deer. You can't have an offence by inference. A false declaration would mean that you do not have access to the firearm in question, for example, rather than that you don't use that specific rifle *only*. Using a suitable rifle other than that with which you applied is not an offence, since there's no clause on the licence which specifies that the rifle applied with is the only one to be used. It's the same as if I apply for a rifle for target shooting, and use it for target shooting, and then go hunting with it. I'm not committing an offence, since I'm authorised to use the rifle for any legal purpose (provided the licence has no conditions to the contrary). If anything, your post supports my point. It's obvious that there are a lot of people with multiple deer-legal rifles around. If the form weren't simply trying to ascertain that you had a suitable means to kill deer, there would logically be space for the multiple rifles you might intend to use.
    Correct correct correct!!!

I'll be honest. I had a big post written out, and ready to post. Then i realised why bother. Not being defeatist, but it's pointless. I don't agree with some of opinions, yourself included. However no matter what you or i believe only one group can answer this for sure.

To that end i believe an e-mail to the NPWS will sort this faster, and more accurately than any back and forth any of us can accomplish. I will answer one thing though.
If anything, your post supports my point.
I'm not arguing for or against so any agreement/confirmation in my posts is purely accidental.

To be honest, NPWS won't be able to settle it either. They didn't write any legislation and there's precious little certainty of getting someone who intimately understands the laws and licensing issues. Just look at how many people have heard "It's not in my drop-down list" and so on when dealing with them! I think we have to trust our own judgement and be able to confidently stand behind it, wherever we form it. For my part, I'm happy that my understanding fits things as I've read and understand them, but I'm happy to agree to disagree.

There are precious few people that understand the current firearms laws in the entire country let alone the NPWS however they do not need to know the laws. I want their take on the matter.

So if i apply using a certain rifle, of certain caliber with a specified serial number, but use a different rifle would they class this as an issue, problem, legal issue, etc. All they can do is say yes, no or we haven't a clue/don't care.
