As far as some of the people they could have got, Kevin Kilbane is probably one of the better ones.

    I'm totally happy with this.

Nothin' but love for Kevin Kilbane.

Not worth all the crazy build up for a guy that already contributes to the show, but I like Kilbane. He sounds like a really nice guy, and he's got a good personality. But they need somebody else as well to replace Woolly.

Happy with Kilbane, along with Cunningham he's there most interesting pundit. He gets on well with Joe too.

On another point, surely they could have more than just Ritchie in Rio. They're not exactly short of presenters? Maybe they blew their budget on the Euros.

Well you'd have to after seeing this:

Anyone know if Gilesy is gonna be back in his usual slot on Thursdays?

So what happens Malone and McDonnell.

If it has to be one of them, let "nyeh yeh" Malone go.

Positively. keep McDonnell, the only authentic irish football voice around.

I quite liked the football show with Daniel McDonnell, as much as I like Kilbane I not sure that I'd be that interested in regularly tuning in to just him and Joe/Ger.

Hope it doesn't turn the show in to one long football show but I too think it was a decent selection.

That's the potential problem isn't it. He seems to have a varied interest anyway so hopefully it doesn't go too soccer heavy.

Tuned in briefly last night. There was a roadshow on. Think Peter Reid was talking around 7.15 and he sounded locked. Tuned in before nine and there was a lot of audience talking and shushing. Not sure what the point of these shows are. Usually poor quality chaos.

McDonnell was great for league of ireland stuff. second captains never touched it on the football show, and didn't within the first year of their podcasts (kinda stopped listening then). Killer professed his love for Longford Town in twitter a while back, so would be nice to see LOI news continuing apart from Roddy and Stuey once a week. Hopefully Dan will still contribute.

on another note. thursday night football with John Giles is back, with this gem...
'only 4 teams can finish in the top 4 Ger'...

please, in the second post on this thread i said i would like to see the end of that segment. now i'm pleading.

I actually quite liked the sense of familiarity this evening. John is old school but I'd prefer that than Sky Sports style "GREATEST LEAGUE IN THE WORLD" commentary. I thought his view on why he fancies Liverpool was curious and I liked the fact that he called Spurs out as having been failures last season but I agree it was a bit annoying that he wouldn't just list his expected top 4 for this year.

Firstly I am a Dub myself and maybe this has been brought up before but is it just me or is Dave Mc Intyre a deeply unlikable person ? He also used to be on The right hook on Fridays with George and couldn't stand him.

I know his parents are from Cavan , but he really shows Dubs in their worst light.

Not a fan of McIntyre at all but mainly because he is excruciatingly dull.

Was very pleasantly surprised with Kilbane joining the show. Should bring a bit of much needed colour.

It's not just that he's dull , I wouldn't mind him if thats all it was . He's just so unlikeable remember him on George hook show - big George fan. - he had no time for George sure George felt the same but didn't show it.
I know he's from castleknock but thought having parents from Cavan there might be some good in him!

The quality of that phone line from Brazil is making me nearly feel sorry that the O'Donovans won silver.

Don't really like him either although I'm not sure exactly why. Comes across as a bit of a know it all. At least with regards to sport.

That's said he's not as bad as Gilroy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,284 ✭✭✭goochy

Can give or take Gilroy but mc intyre is just loathsome in my opinion . Just nothing at all redeemable about him

When did Wooly leave and why? dont listen to it all that much anymore, find the presenters pretty interchangeable, wooly annoying but at least you could pick him out of a lineup

He moved to joe.ie a couple of months back. They've drafted in Kevin Kilbane to provide a bit of 'colour' but I suspect he might be a bit too 'nice' for the job...

Miss wooly he was nice change from the other pc well spoken other presenters .

He might not have been a picnic to work with either, the same Woolly. He was no choirboy in the past.

Remember Woolly went off on holidays, and by the time he had got back Everton were out of every cup and had lost every game in the mean time... And he went on a complete rant about them.

This is what I miss about the show.

I often thought that Ger Gilroy must have a book in him over the situation about how McDevitt and Earley left, but I'd love to hear his opinions on Woolly as well. tbh, I'd say Woolly took the other job for a decent wage. He was basically an intern at OTB really wasnt he.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

I said it before, the most upsetting thing about Wolly being gone is that we won't have the race between him and Rob Heffernan.

Think it's unfair for Annalise that opening item is about the boxing instead of her achievement.

Think of the furore there was last week over the same colour medal for the rowers.
