    Hi!

I'm thinking about doing Erasmus at Dublin.
I can't find the price of the residences, could you please send me the link?
    Thank you.

    Hi!
    Here it is: http://www.ucd.ie/residences/studentpages/fees201213/ ;)

So it's the same price for all the residences?
I'm only staying for one semester, so how do I calculate how much I'm going to spend in accommodation?

    Thank you!

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 Aurora2012

No, it's not. Some are more expensive than others.
There's a price mentioned for "semester only students" for each residence. (click on the name of the residence in the middle of the page)

Oh, I hadn't noticed I could scroll down the page!
So, if I stay one semester in Belgrove I'll pay 2539€? That's really expensive

Yes, that's what I paid when I stayed there last semester. And yes it's overpriced. :(

What do you think about renting a flat? I want to live by myself, have my own rythms and party whenever I want, so maybe the campus accommodation is not the best for me...

Is Dublin a safe city? It's a shame that transports close so soon :/ at least in Portugal the metro runs until 1h30

  • Registered Users Posts: 47 Aurora2012

It's definitely cheaper to share an apartment in the city centre. Most international students share apartments (lots of them also share their bedroom) and I think it's easier to find a shared apartment than a studio (more availabilities and it's also cheaper).
I lived with two roommates but did what I wanted when I wanted as we were all "independents". I guess it depends with who you get to live.

Yes Dublin is safe (some areas are safer than others but just like every city in Europe). I agree about the transports but if you live on campus, most people share a taxi to go home after a party and there's also an overnight bus that runs until 04:00am Friday/Saturday. If you live in the city centre, you can often walk from home to the club/pub.

Hi all, Im starting a post grad in September 2013. Any others new postgrads want to get a house together? I've been looking at between 3-6 bed houses. Would be nice to move in with some people starting there postgrad, and up for some nights out every now and again.

Same situation here, starting up a masters in Sustainable Energy and Green Technology in September, currently in Australia but home to plan all this in the summer. Really don't want to live in campus accommodation I had enough of that during my degree days when the nights out turned into mornings on a regular basis! Prefer a house, at least something you can call home. And a few nights out are mandatory to get to know people and socialise.

Anybody else of the same opinion on here?
Also what is traffic like around UCD on mornings and evenings, as I have a car and if walking distance is too far, is driving efficient or a total disaster!?

If I dont get campus where do I go about finding somewhere to live? None of my friends are going to Ucd and i'd hate to live on my own or in digs.. Help!

Campus accom is first come first served, have you applied for campus yet or do you have to wait until CAO.

There are some purpose built student accom areas, not near UCD in city centre. There may be a facebook page for first year studnets, I know DIT have one.

Closer to the time on the Third Level Accom fourm studetns post about getting accom together.

If you're in 6th year then applications for Campus open on the 7th of May for next year.

Check out the "My UCD" Facebook page, I saw it there a few days ago.

traffic is very busy around ucd in the morning, we live about 4km away and its quicker by bike. its pretty stressful for drivers! dublin in general has great bike lanes etc and there are loads of cyclists cos at rush hours the traffic can be so bad its quicker by bike. but its like anything, somtimes you wish you had a car for goin to the shops-and if you want to visit other parts of ireland a car is obviously better.

Hey, I'm doing the last year of my Masters in Electrical Energy in September there and haven't sussed accommodation yet but a house with a few other postgrads sounds a great idea, so keep us posted on any developments!

I didn't apply till after offers came out in 2010 and still got it and I was about there on the list. I wouldn't stress too much the numbers will drop massively once /results offers come out.

Just wondering for a postgrad if you don't have a full offer by the time thy system opens have you any chance of getting a room? I know you don't get a UCD email until you get a full offer

Hi, I'm going into 2nd year in social science in UCD and I am currently looking for a place to live. I thought I had a house sorted with a group, but that has fallen through. So just looking for any sort of room in or around the UCD area for the year to come.
    cheers

Would anybody be able to recommend suitable Accomodation for 1st years, off-campus if you're not offered a place on-campus?
