Yeah, the ports are forwarded on the router. I presume I'd need to do the same with VLC?

No just the streaming port and the http what url are you using?

I'm using myhost.no-ip.biz and have changed the default port 80 to something else.

That's right. I tried to login from my work pc today but couldn't get in. Tried it with my phone and same deal. It'll work on a pc connected to my LAN, but still won't stream using vlc.

I can stream perfectly to my phone/tablet using Dreamdroid...but only when connected to the LAN.

Did you check that no-ip is updating your ip address? go to speedtest.net you'll see the correct ip and double check your port forwarding.

All seems fine, just vlc streaming isn't working.:(

Edit: Got it working in the end, just needed to forward the streaming ports for VLC.

In HDMU image, when you set the correct chipset in wlan settings, should the wlan appear under network after a reboot or is there another stage required. When i reboot, under network there is still only lan settings.

I have made some tweaks to the original image I created. One glaring omission was not to mount the USB HDD which meant it would not record unless mounted the disk - and were technically minded enough to do it.

So I just wish that Streaming worked and then everything would be complete. There's also still an issue with AutoTimer in that you cannot get into the Menu of it to maybe schedule it - but I have it installed.

Bear with me until the weekend and I will hopefully have a decent image for you.

Brilliant championc, can't wait to try out your lastest backup!

One quick question, will the plugins that I have on HDMU like RTE Player, IceFilms etc. work on AR-P? Are the directories the same for placing different items like channel bouquets and plugins?

If you select the correct chipset in wlan settings in HDMU Center it should detect the stick on reboot. It will show up as wlan in network settings.

After some further testing of the HDMU image (10846) I have noted a few things.

1.The HD picture quality is not as sharp as my other Linux receivers,it looks soft .
The SD picture quality is good, better than my other Linux receivers ,but the difference between SD and HD isnt as good as it should be.

2.The PLI-HD skin is not very stable, seems to slowdown alot ,other skins are much smoother.

3.I was watching a satellite channel ,then recorded it and switched to a Saorview channel .
I switched back to the satellite channel and stopped the recording but when I went back to Saorview ,it says "Service not found" on Saorview channels.
I had to hard restart the receiver to get the Saorview channels back. This happens anytime i try the above.

4.Sometimes when I go into CoolTv and press the menu button to configure it I get a pink screen and the box crashes .

5.If I run timeshift in HDMU and press stop it stops the Timeshift despite I have it set up to show a warning when timeshift is stopped .

6.The audio levels on different channels is all over the place.I have tried the automatic volume adjustment plugin but the audio levels are still inconsistent.

7.Dmconcinnity skin completely locks up on the terrestrial channels ,the spinner keeps going and going.

I am thinking of giving ARP a go ,does anyone using it know if it has the same issues ?

Finally trying to flash an enigma image onto my Alien 2. I knew it wouldn't work...

I'm following PogMoThoins guide from here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056882713

    1. I downgraded to 1.2.51 E2 Boot Upgrade.
    2. I copied both the bin and keys folders from Pogs "All_emu_plugin_Alien" archive to the /root/plugin/var directory (overwrite).
    3. I create an enigma2 folder on a USB drive. It's a 500GB external USB drive with two partitions, both formatted to NTFS. I put the enigma2 folder on the partition that Spark recognised just fine and saved its crossepg folder to it and pvr folder too.
    4. Inside the enigma2 folder I place just the two files: e2jffs2.img and uImage.
    5. I rebooted the box with the USB inserted then as per the guide went to plugins and enabled the e2upgrade plugin and selected the enigma2 folder on the USB key.
    6. I set the Alien 2 to boot into Enigma and turned it off and back on.

I tried the HDMU images 10780 and 10905 however it gets stuck with 50Hz on the STB display. It was cycling through HDMI and Scart and PC something and I pressed OK when Scart appeared on the STB display and then OK again when Pal appeared on the display then 50hz just stays there and nothing else happens. I saw HDMU appear on the Alien 2 display so it looks like the problem is not related to the USB drive not being recognised or the partition format.

I repeated with the ARP image from April 14th and that just gets stuck on Boot and nothing else happens at all... I waited for 20mins.

It might be that I am using a Scart cable.. the TV has no HDMI input. Is scart recognised in HDMU or ARP or any other Enigma image? On my HDMU attempt when the Alien display was cycling through HDMI .. Scart .. there wasn't any picture on the TV at all.

The only good news is I'm able to force a reboot back into Spark. This is why I spent so much time getting Spark set up right so I've something to fall back on. Do I need to leave the Spark 1.2.51 firmware on there while flashing Enigma images??

I'd be grateful for any help!

I'm able to boot into the HDMU setup wizard now...

    What I did:
I tried plugging the box into another more modern TV we have using a different scart cable this time. I booted into enigma as before and up came the HDMU setup wizard screen. Strange because the scart cable I was using in the first TV was working fine to display Spark.

Also, I've now got the box booting into HDMU on the first (older) TV with that second scart cable. Using this different scart cable it booted and 'HDMU Enigma' stayed on the Alien2 display, it didn't keep cycling through those HDMI, Scart etc options. However there was still no picture on the TV until I pressed the AV button on the TV remote a few times. This is something I hadn't done before. So maybe it was the scart cable or me not having pressed the AV button or both.

    Hi Folks,

Been running HDMU_10905_E2_spark7162 for the past few weeks with no issues.

Recently though my USB stick seems to have crapped out, CrossEPG was storing on the USB now that has stopped and I cannot see any files in media center.

Now when I run the below commands to format the disk i get errors (worth mentioning that this worked a few weeks ago on initial setup)

    SPARK7162:~# mkfs.ext3 -L RECORD /dev/sda1
    mke2fs 1.42.7 (21-Jan-2013)
mkfs.ext3: No such device or address while trying to determine filesystem size
    SPARK7162:~#

I have booted into spark and was going to try reflash enigma only to discover that the I see no files on the USB in Spark either. I have tried two different sticks both of which I know worked in the box previously.

When i plug in the USB in Spark I see the little file icon pop up in the corner so I looks to recognise that I have plugged something in, Also the USB is definetly getting power as there is an LED on one of them.

    Anyone have any ideas??

The only thing I noticed with a mini usb stick I have (like below) is that, when flashing a Backup image to or from it, it gets very hot, so maybe your has simply burned out !!

Thanks Championc, Thes USB sticks work in the PC so I guess their not burned out.

Is there a command via telnet that will list my USB devices? At least then I can see if it is recognised? Also is it always SDA1?

    Thanks,

I have one unpartitioned 4GB USB key plugged into the back of my Alien2. When I telnet in to HDMU the command fdisk -l shows what USB devices are connected. I don't know if it is always SDA1 or what the SDA1 and SDA5 devices are below.

I flashed HDMU 10780 to my Alien 2. I have one cable from a roof mounted UHF aerial and one cable from a Sky dish pointing at Astra 28.2E. I used Filezilla to put an updated satellites.xml file into etc/tuxbox and I can select Astra 28.2E in Tuner Configuration. Incidentally PogmoThoins guide says to put the satellites.xml file into etc/enigma2, not sure which is right?

Does anyone have just one satellite cable running from their dish? I go into:

Menu > Setup > Service Searching > Tuner Configuration

..but I guess I'm not configuring Tuner B and C properly. I can scan the Saorview channels but no matter what I try when I go back to "Automatic Scan" or "Manual Scan" I never have the option to change which Tuner to scan, only Tuner A the terrestrial tuner is possible.

    Any ideas?!

I'm no expert at this stuff but

I think you might have the sat file in the wrong place. Follow POGs guide.
Check your sat cable is connected to the right tuner.
You probably need to set Tuner C to "Nothing Connected".
Next time you scan, to save time, turn off Tuner A.
You should see the channel names coming in, but when they are in you could be on a blank channel, so press the OK button and go from there.
    Good luck

If both directories exist, it can't help putting the XML file in both. On AR-P, it's in etc/enigma2

I replaced the satellites.xml file in tuxbox and it worked for me. Set tuner B to single, Astra 28.2 etc. Tuner C can be either "not connected" or "loop-through to B"

Anyone know a way to flash / completely erase enigma and start over?

When I re-flash the enigma image it seems to have already stored my static IP & network settings so I gather there is some residual config files left from my previous image..

    Thx

I thought flashing did erase enigma, are you sure it is not that your rooter is not giving the same IP and that the network setting are not a default?

As an alternative you could telnet in and manually delete the directories (/etc and /var should be enough) using the rm -rf command.

Its very possible - I did turn DHCP off but perhaps before i do this it adds the IP & GW that it gets.

I might try flash again later tonight as I am having some permission issues again with my usb/SDA1

    Question: I am running HDMU_10905_E2_spark7162.
What is t he general consensus of the most stable image?

    Thanks for the help!

    Thanks Stanley,

I loaded AR-P image OpenAR-P_OE2.0_211_alien2_epl3-git-08-04-13_v2013-03-31-25-g6fbce32 last night all looks good and smooth, I created my Satellites.xml file for only Astra 1N/2A/2F/Eutelsat 28A (28.2E) at http://satellites-xml.eu/ and did an automatic tune.

It seemed to tune all channels but for some I was gettign the error "SID not found in PAT" for others I was getting "Tune Failed"

Thinking it was my Satellite file I loaded a new xml containing Europe, Africa & Middle East: Eutelsat 3A/3C/Rascom QAF 1R (3.0E) - Intelsat 22 (72.1E)

Now when I do a retune I pick up 0 channels.

    Questions:

Is the AR-P image the correct one? If not can you link the latest please?

The satellites.xml file should go in /etc/enigma2 as with the HDMU image?

The tuner configuration is slightly different than in pog's step by step. I have tuner A set to advanced & Astra 1N/2A/2F/Eutelsat 28A (28.2E) & LNB1. Tuner B is set to "Equal to Tuner A" and Tuner 3 is the DVB-T Europe.
    Everything sound right here?

Also, in case its my Sat file can someone upload a copy for me please?

    Thanks,
    Derek

From memory, there was no need to add the Satellites.xml file to AR-P. I believe I was able to select 28.2 and once scanning was completed, it offered me the choice to delete the unscanned satellites.

So maybe Derek, just re-flash again and try it.

yes, 28.2 is a choice in tuner config.

Cheers Gerry, this Tuner configuration worked for me to scan satellite channels using HDMU with just one satellite cable connected to the Alien2. It seems that you can put satellites.xml into either /etc/tuxbox or /etc/enigma2.
