What exactly is the error you're seeing on the Network page in the setup menu? Have you tried the Restart Network option?

I get a purple/pink page and it says you STB encountered a software problem. needs to be restarted..

NUTZZ I think i am doing some thing wrong when flashing because i flashed open ar and i am still booting with HDMU.

Go back and study Pog's guide. In Spark, you should start out with and see the following

    2012-12-31151528_zpsa2872cb3.jpg

then navigate to the folder where you have the AR-P (or whatever) image stored

    There is a rescue image for Spark if you can't boot into it, you can dowload it from here;

    Alien2-7162-rescue-1.2.50

    Instructions

Please make sure your USB stick only has 1 partition and the file system is
    FAT32
Set default booting system to [spark].
    Upgrade Step:
    1. Make sure [C:/spark] exists, if not, please create this folder.
    2. copy [mImage] and [userfsub.img] to [C:/spark]
    3. Connect USB stick to STB
    4. Keep Pressing [OK] Button in Front Panel, then power on STB.
    5. After 5 seconds, you will see [Forc] in LED, release [OK] button and press
    Button.
    6. if everything is OK, You will see [U LD] shining in LED
    7. if upgrade is successful, you will see [SUCC] and STB reboot automatically
    8. If the upgrade does not finish in 5 minutes, then there must be something wrong, please
    check your configuration and re-try.

I use the above method. 2 mistakes I made were:

"(4) keep pressing…" should actually say "press and hold". I kept jabbing at the button, wondering why it wasn't working.

Whenever I flash backup images it never says [SUCC] it always says [ERR] but it still always works fine after a reboot.

Has anyone set up a custom.txt file for AutoBouquets? I'm a little unclear how to go about setting it up. Can you just do the channels you want and leave loads out? I just want to use it for FTA and would ideally like my Saorview channels to stay put in my favourites.

Working fine here TOMMY. Even changed region from NI to London and it worked.

Just to be clear, did you manually edit your custom.txt file?
In other words, does your list of favourites (assuming you have one) update every time you run AB?

In the AB read me file it says:

    " - Custom Channel Order
this allows you to change the generated channel ordering.
edit the example custom.txt file in /AutoBouquets/ folder
by changing the second channel number 101-999 accordingly."

Just trying to get my head around it before I go and F everything up - again!

    Cheers

Sorry, I can't help with Live Pause but for CoolTVGuide, see post #1352 in this guide. For me, I used the EPG button and told it to remember to use EPG for CoolTVGuide. Only with the change above did it then use it. So it seems like you have to tell it what to do first, and then basically remove the menu of choices.

Thanks championc will try the cooltvguide tip. I got live pause working but when you stop it it crashes everytime. I need live pause for herself to keep this image on my box.

In case anyone reading this thread is interested in using an Alien 2 box with the Spark software...

    1. There is a forum where you can contact the developers of Spark... it's here --> http://www.sparkfans.net/

    2. To get crossepg working on Spark to get a 7 day EPG for the free to air channels from Astra 28.2E you have to have a radio station tuned in called "EPG Background Audio". Its transponder info is: 28.2/11778/27500.

I had deleted that radio station when I was sorting out my channels after doing a blind scan, hence I was never getting a full 7 day epg.

Crossepg things (on Spark) that still don't work right for me are:

    A. They say it runs in the background now but I have scheduled it to run at a certain time everyday and when it does it interrupts what you're watching while it downloads the epg (takes less than a minute).
    B. Right after you download the EPG programmes that have already finished today have their titles (names) scrambled in the epg and there is similar scrambled text in their "programme info" place. This also happens on some channels for programmes that are currently on or that are about to start within the next few hours.

Other than this everything else is fine. No it's not as pretty and fancy as the epg on enigma images but from what I've read Spark is more rock solid than any enigma image.

I still dont see why you would use spark?

Have you tried the AR-P image? It has all the bells and whistles and is rock solid. I think I may have restarted box once or twice since I put it on and one of them times is because I had messed up something.

ps. If you want a copy of the ar-p image the campionc built, just let me know. I'm sure championc will tell you the same. It is so easy to get running once you have spark working it is silly...!!

    I must retry AR-P.
I was watching some tv last night on HDMU with the PLi skin and the spinner was coming up alot when I was zapping around channels. It locked up for a few seconds at different times .Must try the default skin later to see how that fares .

I have made some tweaks to the original image I created. One glaring omission was not to mount the USB HDD which meant it would not record unless mounted the disk - and were technically minded enough to do it.

So I just wish that Streaming worked and then everything would be complete. There's also still an issue with AutoTimer in that you cannot get into the Menu of it to maybe schedule it - but I have it installed.

Bear with me until the weekend and I will hopefully have a decent image for you.

Did't work, spent 3 hours at it today. Is there anywhere you can bring these to get help? Sky multi room is going on the 20th so I need it up and running by then..

Are you using the USB port on the back of the box?

Does your image have Webinterface or OpenWebInf? Just bit the buttet on a new T2 tuner model today :-) Now to explain to the wife why we needed it.

    Thanks

Both - so you can select which ever one you like :)

Most routers set it up so look there.

I read somewhere that some brands of USB stick work and others not, Kingston is the one that works.

I should also point out that I have only done this with Enigma and it took 10 mins - not the 5 in the instructions

This is true, it can be very fussy about particular USB keys, although the fact he managed to flash an image previously suggests it should work.

Are you putting just one image on the USB at a time? A folder named 'enigma2' or 'spark'? You need to get Spark working before you try flashing E2 images, this is important, then you can then do an online update (or downgrade) to Spark 1.2.51 E2 as this is the only Spark update which contains a U-boot update which, if you don't do, you run the risk of never being able to boot to E2 again.

Yep, I've a dynamic dns set up with No-IP. Can't get streaming to work with it though. Is it worth persevering with this or would I require a very good upload speed to successfully stream SD programs through VLC?

You would need a good upload speed to do it outside the home network, Did you forward the correct ports on your router?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭Nforce

Yeah, the ports are forwarded on the router. I presume I'd need to do the same with VLC?

Do you have a decent YouTube plugin in your image?
