No doubt an intentional slot position. Dr Who, never watched it at all, is it any use? Where would one start, the modern incarnation

I never used to watch it much but got addicted to the modern incarnation last year. Did the same thing as I did with Battlestar. Watched a few episodes. Then tore through them all. Then watched Torchwood

How far back does the modern version go, is it the one with Billy Piper etc in it?

Yeah start off with Christopher Eccleston and work your way up.

And what is the basic premise behind the show?

Star Trek was about a crews adventures exploring
Star Gate was similar but used gates as a plot device instead of a ship
Quantum Leap was a time travel type thing
Red Dwarf is comedic & funnily has no real plot. More of a MOTW type thing

    etc etc

I know absolutely nothing about Dr. Who :o

This is where i started myself a few years back. some of it is cheese, but it really is addictive stuff, especially the overall arcs that run through it. Christopher Eccleston is a great place to start and you will be hooked after the first season. There are some great episodes in it, especially with David Tennants ones.

Time travel & space travel forward and back.
Lots of stand alone episodes but always an overreaching arc (which is really well done in terms of hints throughout the series a lot)

Basically an alien time traveler, who likes earth, jumps through time exploring and gets into adventures\saving earth etc. always travels with a companion ie human mostly. some great original story telling in it, because of the time travel aspect you get a mix of everything, history, future, other planets etc its like the outer limits, but with overall story arcs running through a season too. well worth a watch.

Just to note, i never would have watched Doctor Who years ago, hated it. but love it now.

Gamestop considering getting into the retrogame trade.

    http://uk.gamespot.com/news/gamestop-considering-selling-vintage-games-6393935

    Two things:

    1. Older games exposed to more mainstream newer-gen gamers. Always a plus.

    2. There's the inevitable scenario of 40e for cart-only copy of Super Mario World et al, if the practice is going global.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,386 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

I really hope they dont do that. They will buy up games like a hoover and inflate the prices in their shops driving the cost of retro games through the roof.

Not to mention all the bargains on the likes of adverts etc will disappear, people digging out there old snes to trade it in for 20 quid off the next call of duty game instead of sticking it up on online.

Yeah I can see them inflating prices and then people on ebay etc. following in the same way. It's already pretty bad as is.

    Just pre-ordered these cheeky lads:

    Prometheus-9-disc-Box-Set.jpg

    BladeRunner-30th_1.JPG

I was going to go with the Prometheus steelbook from Play.com, but this 9 disc set is much nicer and saves me buying the 6 disc Alien set separately. :)

Does anyone know if the 9 disc Prometheus set has the Laserdisc extras for the Alien movies that was in the 6 disc anthology set? The 4 disc one doesn't have them.

Who knew a NES Golf game could be worth so much? This one had 5000 dollars inside it from 1985:
