We have to play this at the next A&R Beers - an awful fantasy RPG about the magical power of Skittles. Yes, that sugar rush confectionery :D

Speaking of the next Beers, trying to come up with a date for the Christ/Judas Day Beers event, in mine if that's okay!
Let me know what range of dates suit and we'll come up with something

I think Star Wars could be a good topic for the next podcast.

What's everyone's favourite retro Star Wars titles?

Just looking at footage of Droids on the C64 right now...

As much as it's disliked by many I have a real attachment to Shadow of the Empire on the N64.
Perhaps it's just nostalgia because it was the only game I had for a good while when I picked up my N64 on launch and I played it to death.

The further Lucas is from the Star Wars the better the series will be.
Who knows, maybe we'll see an Old Republic trilogy made by a decent script writer/editor/director instead of the incompetent moron who, I believe, is now in debt to African American military personnel after the awful Red Tails, and let's not forget The Crystal Skull and swinging with the monkeys and flying in a fridge.... This man's crimes know no end!
So, what you're saying is that this...

    is worse than this.

Yes, because the Indy series was always the most down to earth, realistic, no nonsense series.

So what does the Disney thing mean?
No Fox fanfare at the start of the next starwars film.
A decent writer/director for the next ep?
You could make TDK/DKR nerds implode by starting a rumour that Christopher Nolan is up for it...;)
(or heh a Pixar Star Wars film ,actually that'd be nice)
A section in Kingdom Hearts 6 thats actually of interest to me?
Not sure if it effects the Live action series in production (probably does)
or the 1313 Star Wars game (possible), or SWTOR (unlikely).
It means that Soul Caliber IV probably wont ever end up on Live or PSN
Does my Shadow of the EMpire on n64 go up in value? Probably not!
Honestly, I think Brad Bird would be a good choice. Hell, he might actually shoot it on film this time around (unlike the digital cameras that Lucas used in Episodes II and III), with possible scenes shot in IMAX.

Agreed, how one could find Ep 1 or 2 better than 3 is frankly a testament to the 'each to their own' statement :)
    Episode III > Episode VI.

Phantom Menace was the only of the prequels that had anything going for it.

Namely Liam Neeson and a cool lightsaber battle at the end. The rest of the film and the entirety of the other films have ZERO to offer.

Well... maybe that strategically torn outfit Natalie Port wears at the end of the second one was good.

Best thing about the prequels is that they gave us the brilliant Mr. Plinkett reviews which are stupidly entertaining.
Honestly, I think those were the only things that Phantom had going for it. Besides, is there anything in the movie that actually helped flesh out the story in the other movies in the series? Because Episode II and III have a lot more merit to give than I.
To be fair, popular or not, the prequel films are probably the worst written and worst directed films to have ever had hundreds of millions of dollars poured into them. I thought this was a popular rather than minority hipster opinion.
$2.525 billion can't be wrong. Just so you know, no matter how many critics of the prequel trilogy there are, they are vastly outnumbered by the general audience. No matter how fickle they are.
Even Michael Bay has more admirable auteuristic authority than George Lucas.
As I said on the previous page, let's not say things we can't take back. Devastator wrecking ball nuts, anyone?

    *now flees*

Dammit, was just gonna post that. Those were ok, the mode seven speeder bit in the second one bugged the hell out of me, but the music was great in all of them, and the gameplay was on par with anything out in licensed platforming at the time, or better.

Apart from those, Battlefront on the last gen Xbox wasn't bad, or Force unleashed on this gen was OK, if a bit samey.

Would it really be a film/game tie in worthy of a whole podcast? As a series It's generally been meh, with a few decent exceptions. What about a podcast on film/game tie ins or licensed games generally? You could sift through all the crap and give examples of ones that were Actually decent.

Go from Superman 64 to Batman Arkham asylum and everything in between :D

Agreed, while the 4th film did take it to the extreme, the original 3 had some pretty whacky stuff going on too.

That opinion is more common than you'd think, no need to flee man :D Its at the very least as good as it in my books

Ep 1 also made use of actual location shots and practical special effects. It made a bit of effort on cinematography as well.

The other two, when not a clusterf*ck of CGI are just people sitting and talking or walking and talking with a load of crazy **** going on outside a window. It's unbelievably dull. And the plot in 2 and 3 only seems to make senses in George's head.

I've no problem whatsoever with the fridge scene in the last Indy movie. It's an Indy movie, you have silly scenes that are just there for fun.
When you have scientists/nerds/people who just don't get it coming out saying its impossible for him to have survived for various reasons blah blah blah I'm always...

Now the alien storyline, that bothered me a lot.

I watched the whole 6 movies over a week, I was on nights with someone who had never seen a Star Wars movie and was interested in what she thought....
Amazingly she loved Episode 1, especially the fight scene.
She was unimpressed with Episode IV, especially the big fight with Vader and Kenobi, finding it wooden and slow, compared to the athletics of the prequel battles.
She liked ESB and RotJ but she was far more enamored with RotS.

She detested Jar Jar as well, so not all is lost!

I still want an Old Republic movie series though!!!

Oh and there are tonnes of obscure Star Wars games that I think would be fun to talk about.

    Who remembers Yoda Stories?

Actually, 2.5 billion can be very wrong indeed. Given you cite the Transformers series in your post, you have effectively discredited your own argument :) The baffling box office success of the Phantom Menace re release is still wonderful proof that audiences well and truly do not learn.

And I don't have to like Michael Bay to claim he has a distinctive, tech savvy directorial style. A thoroughly objectionable style, but a style nonetheless.

The order you show someone the films in is important otherwise you ruin the twist. I suggest IV, V, I, II, III, VI.

Shadows of the Empire is truly horrendous. I'll be ripping into it. As for Jedi Knight, loved the first game then tried it on steam again recently... oh dear. Rose tinted glasses didn't even work. I was never a fan of the raven developed jedi knight sequels either.
    Absolutely adore Dark Forces though!

Then there's the Famicom star wars game. Watch until the end, words can't discribe what happens:

Yeah, I actually thought about that last night (and I don't know why I didn't bring that up as one of the few redeeming features). But if you want to criticise the other two, I think you should give this a read.

I thought the fight scene was probably one of the best, if only you got to see the Jedi in their prime. A shame that did overdid it quite a bit, thereafter.

And yeah, I've got a friend who thought Episode IV was quite a bit slow on the pacing, but still good in its own right.

I was merely just saying it in a "the customer is always right" corporate way. Did really mean that they were right in general, just what Lucas and the other execs thought of the audience. But like I said, the general audience is more willing to accept flaws or the ones that generally go over their head that we, the internet community, tend to pick up and have a major row about it. Regardless of what we think, we're still a minority. And unless the audience has a change of mind about the series, it's gonna stay that way.

What about a prequel trilogy to the prequel trilogy? Newborn Luke skywalker changing his own nappy using the force, a teenage Mace Windu in the ghetto, force pinching other kids on the playground for their lunch money...

    No?

Seriously though, there's loads of material in the canon for an early trilogy from a new production studio, if they wanted to do it right and still pay homage to the Lucas universe. The hundred year darkness, the great schisms, the foundations of the Sith Empire, and so on.

Either that or the rebuilding of the new Jedi order by Luke Skywalker, following on directly from the events of part VI.

You really should read some of the Talkback on the whole Star Wars issue on Ain't it Cool News, very funny indeed.... especially comments that Anthony Daniels may finally be able to afford food again with the news of more movies :)
