No idea man, i mean you could nearly get a full set of art for that. Any help getting this sorted would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there I've been reading this and Keithgeo's thread on building your own arcade machine. They have inspired me to give it a shot myself. I picked up a pentium 4 and a 25" trinitron on adverts.ie and Im in the process of upgrading the pc. Next up I'll set up the emulators and front end. I may hijack this thread with a couple of questions at some stage if that's alright.

I would recommend setting up your own thread maybe? its much better to keep your project in its own one, that way when you are finished others can reference it too.

What??? Thanks crazy was it on gold leaf paper?

I paid gameongraphix a ridiculous ammount of money for my mame cab ones too, it is quality dont get me wrong, especially for a Control Panel, its not just paper or vinyl the print on it comes out like plastic, its almost like a dinner mat off your table. its real sturdy and would stand up to any ammount of your drunk mates whacking rings and watches off it while playing as opposed to the sticker stuff you will get printed for 30 quid.

Now, having said that, i would never get prints off gameongraphics again, the sticker stuff is grand for most people. plus i have a guy who prints mine for free now ;)

Grand will do at some stage the only questions Id have at the minute are pc related so Ill post them elsewhere.

Man, so many home builds lose the plot and turn out as monstrosities which need to die in a fire.

You've kept this really tasteful and classy. Fair play, it looks great! :)

Cheers man I was hard at it today!!! Still a few things to do speaker covers and the likes but it's coming together and only starting to feel worth it haha. When this Is done I'm on the search for a cab (naomi universal or the likes) just for virtua striker and tennis always wanted one of them aswell

looks nice and clean...congrats on the build man
Is that the sub woofer down below and the other 2 channels come through speakers under marquee?

I think you should add more buttons, sticks, tracking ball and maybe LED fixtures to just liven things up..oh and flames..every one loves flames:D

Only messing about LEDS and what not..Leave it as is..Looks A1.
Just joking that you should turn in into something like this abomination

    074-compFinalJoysticks.jpg

Great job as I say, Did you work off same dimensions as original cab?

Haha oh right ye I used the same dimensions as the original only my cp is slightly bigger ..

Do you or anyone else know where I can buy a VGA to scart cable to use with this cab I'm using svideo at the min and after 2 failed soldering attempts I've given up trying to make one myself

  • Registered Users Posts: 518 ✭✭✭nacimroc

You will get them on ebay no problem. Are your speakers shielded under the marquee? If not they will distort your screen.

Yeah the speakers are shielded mate I only see scart to VGA is it just the same thing I was afraid they might be wired differently

  • Registered Users Posts: 518 ✭✭✭nacimroc

Nope. Don't buy one sorry. I just checked a damaged ebay one I have here against the wiring diagram for the arcadevga card and its totally different. I would guess you would have to make one. If soldering is the trouble, just get a a piece of terminal connector block and wire them through that? Based on THIS diagram

cant get onto ebay in college(god damn filter) did you have to do any extra wiring for it to auto switch to the right channel or anything like that??

When the molex connector is plugged in the TV automatically switches to the AV channel, but not to the RGB channel on my TV from what I remember. I didn't do any extra wiring.

I actually don't connect the molex as I prefer switching channel manually, as the signal displayed when booting up windows (before soft15khz has launched), I hear can damage the TV.

I recently updated/finished my MAME cab so some things still fresh in my memory!

The molex connector should be used, it applies a voltage to Pin 16 on the SCART which tells the TV to expect a RGB signal instead of a composite one.

If you want to stop the TV from autoswitching to the AV channel you need to disconnect the 12v wire - usually the yellow one.

Just a quick update.. Have soldered in all the buttons and have all of them working perfect(f*ck me is it a tedious job) but got it all config'd and working.. Went to fit the glass over the monitor only to find that the shop had cut it 1/4 of an inch to wide so will have to get it cut again to fit(right pain in the arse) .... And also found out over on jamma+ that the problem I'm having with mortal kombat was caused by mame 147 which is now fixed in 147u2 so will try that out tomorrow so fingers X'd

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 560 ✭✭✭andrew241983

well the picture problem is fixed in MK since i changed to mame 147u2 but now getting jumpy sound.. was told it could be that my TV is running 60hz and MK and few other games where made to run at 55hz(haven't a clue myself just what i was told)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 560 ✭✭✭andrew241983

lads I cant get this sound problem sorted for MK I've tried messing with the mame settings and tried different versions of mame but the sound is still all over the place I've added a copy of my mame.ini if you guys could take a look to see if anything is out of place I would be much appreciated
    cheers

    try setting
    syncrefresh to 1
and load game if that doesn't help change back and try
    switchres 0

if that doesn't work try turning setting triple buffer to 0 but that will more than likely create screen tearing problems

    Are you using an ArcadeVGA?

No mate I'm using svideo my VGA to scart is in transit

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,146 ✭✭✭CathalDublin

hwstretch should be off(0) in directdraw settings.

If your using svideo I'd probably change these options though and change back to the way you were when using 15khz & vga to RGB(scart)

    Guys,
I am using Maximus Arcade as my frontend and im at the point where i want to put in preview videos in the game select area.
Any ideas where a good place to look for them is?
At the moment i was considereing using youtube and one of those sites that let you record from it, then the file can be converted from an SWF to something AVI or whatever.
