What's the deal with limos and Hummers?
My school is getting a bus up to the venue.
Or do people take the limo to the school?
Can I not just walk? :)

Take the bus, better craic and a lot cheaper.

If you're close enough to walk in to school that's definitely an option, but what about your date? ... "Ah, sure, I'll meet you at the school!" is a bit ... em ... well, just 'em...', tbh.

That said, there's bound to be a load of reasonable options between that on the one hand and hiring a limo on the other, they're kinda the two extremes!

Ironically she was asking me today about the plan for the debs.
See, both of my parents are out of the country for that date as I was saying to her. I reckoned there was hardly a point in even heading to mine.
After little thought, I concluded that yes it would be ridiculous to walk 20 minutes to my school and us dressed up.
So I find myself in a rather odd predicament where I may have to ask a friend to give me a lift or something to the school, or grab a taxi.
As far as I'm aware there aren't many pre debs gatherings happening around for mine so getting a limo for 2 to the school would be both ridiculous and costly!

My debs are on Monday, and I only asked my date last Thursday and got my suit last Friday, so no need to panic

Can I wear a red waistcoat or does that just make me look like a valet or casino card dealer ?

I'll be honest, the only red waistcoats i saw were awful.. but they had patterns and were worn with clashing red ties.. your probably better off with silver/ white waistcoat and a red tie :-)

I'm actually so fed up of looking for a debs dress on the internet because i can never tell if the website is thrustworthy or not. Can anyone tell me any website where they got a dress and was happy with it?

Try etsy.com. Its the ebay of crafty things and all sorts of jewelry and accessories you can think of. That's where my gf was thinking of getting her dress.

I could just as easily go without a waistcoat, or do people think it's necessary to complete the tux?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators Posts: 29,509 Mod ✭✭✭✭randylonghorn

Didn't we do this to death a month ago? :p

    Depends on the suit tbh.

Reality is that once the pics are taken and things get less formal, jacket will come off and if it's warm probably the waistcoat as well.

Anything after that is entirely between you and your date! :P

A tux is a tux. Only vary in few ways like no. of buttons.
I may get one anyway, can't hurt to have choice.

If it's a classic tux, they don't vary much. Some of the more modern versions of the tux though vary a fair bit, and indeed some of what is described as a tux these days, while classy, would probably be better described as a formal or evening suit.

This is a public information announcement.
I am available to rent for the debs on any date which is suitable for you from the 26th of August, until the end of December 2012. My rates are variable, depending on the applicant, but generally start from 200 euro an hour. Craic is guaranteed, but if I grow bored of either the party or you, then I maintain a legal right to sue you without seeking arbitration or conciliation. The evening's schedule is dictated strictly by the customer, but so too does the payment of transport, accommodation and any other relevant fees.

I look forward to hearing from you,
    Not a loner.

Well I went to two debs', my own one and the one of my date. For each one I brang a wallet of around €200 but of course I didn't spend all of it. Honestly I think a little over 100 would be plenty but anything less than 100 although it would probably do yeah wouldn't be the best thing ever. Like I mean if you're getting photos taken at the hotel professionally, you might have to pay for transport on the day, like if ye're all getting a bus. Buying drinks for your date. Doing rounds with the lads. It'll all end up to about 100. It's handy to have a little extra just in case you might need it. But don't bring two hundred. That's just me. I always bring too much money but I'm like that. Oh and don't bring any cards or whatever. Just ID and money in the wallet. It's very easy and common to get robbed by someone at the debs. You wouldn't expect it but it can happen. Happened at mine last week. Not to me because I was nowhere near drunk but yeah just bring the bare essentials.

had my one last wednesday, it was fairly good :) the best part was probably the after party though. . decided that i was going to marry the lead singer in the band only to later discover he was married, so i hit the tequila from there to drown my sorrows. never a good choice, but yet i never learn.
my corsage flower thing fell off within half an hour, and nearly everyone elses did too, so yeah that's how important they are :L
and to join in the suit talk, one of my guy friends brought a girl who got sick all down the back of his suit, so word of advice if you like your suit don't bring a woman prone to vommitting..
now to do it all again on tuesday. . ugh effort, don't even like the dress i have
