Sssh, he wants a chance to chat the shopgirls up! >_>

Though I'm sure he'd be happy to borrow your sister too! :pac:
Oh I got enough of a bollocking from my year for having a sister while I was in school, enough outta you, longhorn! :pac:
Thanks finality! I think i'll try and see what a grey waistcoat would be like with the suit, really think I need the waistcoat, I hate when a tie starts going everywhere! Drives me mental!
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why a dickie bow is simply imperative to own. You could use a thin tie, they look a lot nicer than big ones and they're quite neat too.

I have a thin black tie, I can't manage to find a thin gold tie anywhere though! So irritating!

Yeah, it's a lounge suit not a dress suit, so even gold would be overkill I think.

Mind you, I think even with a dress suit a light grey would probably work best without looking too OTT.

I liked the jacket/waistcoat combination you posted above, I think I'll look for something like that.

    Few questions:

Would you guys consider getting a waistcoat or tie to match your date's dress?
Depends on the colour of her dress.

Pink? ... would ya go and jump!! :pac:

I think I'm going to get a tux. Are most of ye just wearing regular suits?

    Bow tie or regular tie?
With a tux, either is a realistic option. Classic look would be a bow-tie, but some ties can look well with a tux AND waistcoat.

And lastly I'm left in a rather awkward situation at home where on the date of my debs, neither of my parents are in the country. So...well honestly I don't know what to think of that :P

Tie, but not waistcoat - do you wanna end up with a pink one?! :pac:

    Bow tie or regular tie?
Bow tie! All my girl friends were so enthusiastic when I mentioned it ;) But regular ties are fine too. I still haven't decided, but bow ties would stand out.

I think I'm going to get a tux. Are most of ye just wearing regular suits?
I didn't really know the difference til a few days ago (typical boy), but a tux looks much cooler. :P I suppose with a bow tie and a waistcoat you could kind of have a bit of both.

Another question: My dates dress is white with a gold band or something, I was thinking of getting a gold pocket square, wearing a black tie and then the white shirt/waistcoat/suit.

Would a pocket square be overkill?

Classic / elegant / understated. Would work well on someone tall too.

I'm gonna admit that I don't even know what a pocket square is, so maybe. :P I think you're overthinking it a little - sure you'll take a few pictures and once you're locked no one will know if your date's male or female, in the typical boardsie spirit. :P

A pocket square is just the coloured handkerchief thing that goes in the upper right pocket on a suit! :P

Ah I'll probably go for the waistcoat and tie.
Unless I find out my year is doing all dickie bows.

Hey, the Party is always at Patchy's gaff! You know that.
Imagine me bringing my date to my house for her to find a load of drunken lads havin' a session. "Awww she's fit man"

I think I'd be more inclined to go with a gold tie than black, and either not bother with the pocket square or make sure it matched exactly.

It's for putting down the front of your trousers to make sure that any ... excitement ... doesn't show in the photos.

    You don't need one! >_>

Well I was going to order a tie/pocket square together from a website, so they'd be the same colour anyway!

Ah, right ... coz you did say "I was thinking of getting a gold pocket square, wearing a black tie" ... :p:D

I don't think a black tie AND a gold pocket square with that suit would be a good idea tbh, but both in gold might work.

    Plus 1.

And it might be a touch of overkill with that suit (if pic is some way accurate) though not impossible, certainly.
