Anyone playing the Metaphor: Refantazio demo ? I'm playing on pc and while the overworld controls are a bit janky using a gamepad and there is a bit of lag. It feels like Atlus are onto a fantastic game.

Will wait for the inevitable Atlus discount after three months or so. I still have Persona 3 Reload to play after I finish Trails Through Daybreak this week. Interestingly, the field combat system of Metaphor and its transition to turn-based battles is meant to be very similar as to how Falcom did it in Daybreak.

My only other concern is that Atlus will release a fuller version of the game in a few years as they seem to do now with the Persona games.

Metaphor Famitsu review is out 37/40

Although it is Famitsu so take with a massive dose of salt.

About 4 hours into the demo, really enjoying it so far. Reckon I'll be purchasing once I get through the demo. Very likable characters, great battle system and the art style is next level.

Playing on Steam Deck and get a few dips, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be from hearing about some other people's experience.

Played the first hour on PS5 and there’s definitely weird and regular frame rate drops, which is a shame because a lot of it looks like a PS4 game in terms of asset and texture quality. No reason why it shouldn’t be running smoother, and PC is apparently worse again. At least things like the anime cutscenes look great in 4K.

As a game, so far I don’t find the fantasy setting anywhere near as interesting as Persona’s modern Japan. But it’s done well, the stakes are set up well and the game is pretty stylish on the whole (not quite at P5 territory but it has more fundamental limits in that respect). I’ll play more of the demo but can see myself playing the full thing, as SMTV is great but not one I tend to dip in and out of rather than play all the time just due to the more one-note gameplay (it’s a good note at least). Will push forward as the combat so far has all been tutorial fare.

Apparently it's a pretty sizeable demo. 12 hours is what I heard someone say. Atlus is looking into PC performance issues which will hopefully carry over to PS5 but at least the PS4 version is silky smooth on PS5 apparently.

Took me 5-6 hours to complete the demo in the end (not sure how long exactly as had it idle while eating dinner one evening). Not sure how you'd get 12 hours out of it unless you were playing on hard, as I think I did pretty much all that was possible outside one optional side quest dungeon (ran out of demo time).

By hour two or three it was clear the gameplay loop had its hooks in me, and now eagerly waiting for Friday to continue pushing forward :)

Atlus games normally aren't on the weeby end of the spectrum.

Looks like people are now trying to sell AI slop game guides on Amazon. Have a look at this rubbish.

It's an incredible game. Story is pretty poor but it's also not the main focus. It's all about the gameplay and exploration. The only roadblocks are your ingenuity/patience to get to new areas. Think I put 150 hours into it but never got around to the super bosses.

Playing it at the moment. Taking my time (About 50 hours in. Doing all the side quests etc. Probably only about 1/3 way through). I'm enjoying it a lot. Much more than Shin Megumi Vengeance. The story in that never got me and the lack of music really actually annoyed me.

This is a lot of fun. The usual stuff you'd expect from Atlus: Trying to fit your quests and social upskilling/building relationships around a calendar. But the characters are fun (If not quite on the level of a good Persona game). The voice work is very good, with different European accents to various degrees of accuracy 😀. Mainly UK. From Welsh to Scottish to Liverpool (Complete with Beatles look).

Currently playing Euyiden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes and getting close to dropping it after 20 hours or so. The story is fine (ish), the main character is pleasant enough but the combat is getting to be a chore. It's the same old ding dong fight after fight. For anyone who has gone further in the game, does the combat have any future redeeming features?

VGP have a sale on NA SMT reprints on PS2 if anyone is looking for physical copies at a reasonable price.

We now have a release window for the Trails in the Sky remake and a confirmation of the platforms it will be on.

If you want to buy Ys X Nordics it's probably best to hold off buying it. Falcom just announced a new version of the game which is significantly expanded with new story content and releasing in Japan next year.

I only got about 4 hours in, the story hasn't really properly got going yet and the game really hasn't grabbed me at all. Like you say, the combat just seems so basic and boring, there is practically no room for any real strategy to it. I'm early enough for it to be possible for it to open up more when you unlock new skills but I just don't see any potential in it the way I would at this stage in many other games.

I was really looking forward to it too, I always say Suikoden 2 is one of my all time favourite games but when I think about it, I only played through it once many years ago and it's been so long since then that I can't actually remember what the combat was like and if it was any good. As of right now (and like I said I'm early so I haven't started collecting lots of allies or building up a home base yet) there's not really anything to the game that triggers any memories of the original games.

Jason Schreier is an outspoken Suikoden superfan and he really hated Euyiden. Reiterated how much he hated it in their GOTY episode of Triple Click 😅

Yep, seems to have really disappointed people and apparently it's just a boring slog of fetch quests and time wasting. At least we are getting the suikoden 1 and 2 remake this year so more people can play the god tier suikoden 2.

Take with a pinch of salt but looks like Atlus being Atlus:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,424 ✭✭✭TheIrishGrover

Interesting. I could see them do that. Certainly expand the sections around

    The Saint

Thought that was quite rushed and could be expanded upon (Trying to be vague as possible). Wouldn't hold my breath about WHEN though.

I just wish they’d accept that DLC expansions exist, and not suck fans dry for another full price purchase and make them play essentially the same game again to get to the bonus stuff.

As much as I like some of Atlus’ games, some of their business practices are miserable and their exploitation of hit games is frustrating.

I should have waited on buying SMTV, but I don't want to buy SMTV Vengeance when I haven't even started SMTV.

Sorry for the double post. It's almost time for Xenoblade Chronicles X to be released on the switch. I'm looking forward to exploring it's world again.

Looks like Persona 4 Reload is going to be announced around SGF.
