Apparently the Gamecube version is a bit shoddy, but most of the reviews for it at the time were just a tad peeved that it was a bog-standard port of a two year old game released at new console launch.

Arcade & Retro Commandment #17: "And when one doth useth the name of Crazy Taxi, another shallt invoke The Offspring, harking 'YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH'. And a man of ciderous means shallt arrive and attempt to demean the pop-punk, but we shallt once more shout YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH in rebellious tone"

    But it's awful music!
I know, I lived through it, as an adult with fully developed secondary sexual characteristics, not like most of you lot who were still getting wood when the wind changed direction!!!
I much preferred the NIN in Quake, or even the hoopy frood soundtrack to Space Channel 5,

although that was clearly inspired by the de-lovely and de-licious Deelite, circa 1990....

I bought that album at release, on cassette no less!

I still have it somewhere, as well as owning it on CD.
I have a "greatest Hits" compilation of theirs, sadly mostly the stuff from the debut cd, although a remixes album I also have of Deelite is stunning...

    But the Offspring are tripe!
    Much preferred Weezer....

The xbox live version is crap. No Offspring and no real-life places like pizza hut.

Glad I didn't get it so. I've just turned it on and played about 10 or so mins. This is one very fun game. There goes my evening!

YAH YAH YAH YAH YAH is as integrally linked to the experience of Crazy Taxi as any piece of music has ever been to any video game. Yes, Weezer (and we're talking about Blue Album / Pinkerton Weezer here, as opposed to any entities that may have existed after the mid-1990s) are a vastly superior band, but their music would feel wrong and frankly disturbing soundtracking yells of "take me to Tower Records!"

    Now that's a interesting suggestion...
Alternate soundtracks to your favourite games....
A medley of Stock, Aitken and Waterman tunes while playing Doom?
What should be on the personal stereo of the hero in Dark Souls?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,798 ✭✭✭Jack burton

Reminds me about the whole Sonic CD soundtrack thing

it is interesting though about changing music....depends on the feel of the music though

Turn the volume off on this and watch

And play the music from this one

Was give a bag of SNES games last weekend and have just gone through them now, there is a Mystic Quest Legend here with SFRA on it, does this mean it is in French only or is there a English option on it. Don't have access to my SNES as it is in storage so I can't check myself.

I remember playing quake to to a lot of orbital (specifically 'the box' pts 1 and 2)back in the late nineties...good times

through the wonders of steam/ultimate quake patch and converting my orbital tracks to ogg files and renaming them track02,03 etc I was able to recreate this in insanely high resolution in GLQuake.
fantastic , I'd forgotten just how fluid quake is..

Epic haul arrived this morning! 6kg of goodies from Japan! :)

Gal Gun (XBOX 360) and Super Game Boy Commander (Super Famicom)
A top game for the XBOX 360, if a bit pervy! The controller is awesome, especially made for the Super Game Boy accessory.

    WP_000299%20(Medium).jpg

    Dreamcast Skeleton Mouse
Somewhere under all that cellophane is a Dreamcast Skeleton mouse. Perfect for getting in to the Geist Force debug menu alongside my Dreamcast keyboard!

    WP_000300%20(Medium).jpg

    Batsugun (Sega Saturn)
Lusted for this one for so long now but it's never really been there at the right time. Until now...

    WP_000301%20(Medium).jpg

    Pink Sweets OST
Double pack OST that was sold separately to the XBOX 360 LE pack in.

    WP_000302%20(Medium).jpg

Taito Tokyo Game Show 2005 Promo DVD
Only handed out at the TGS in 2005. This one is still sealed!

    WP_000303%20(Medium).jpg

    Triggerheart Excelica Gravity Error OST
Doujin Triggerheart Excelica muzak! Lovely artwork too.

    WP_000304%20(Medium).jpg

    Fantastic Night Dreams Cotton OST
A top original soundtrack from the good people at Scitron. I have a Task Force Harrier soundtrack from the same 1500 series line, these are wonderfully produced. The Cotton one comes with a nice sticker too.

    WP_000305%20(Medium).jpg

Muchi Muchi Pork! OST and Superplay DVD
Sexy double pack box from Cave. The official Pork OST and DVD set. Again, different to the LE XBOX 360 pack-in. If you love opulent girls, you'll love Muchi Muchi Pork too! :D

    WP_000306%20(Medium).jpg

    Satoshi Urushihara - Cell Works
Not as pervy as the cover art would suggest. I've wanted this art book since I first saw it reviewed in Anime FX in the late 1990's. Big fan of Urushihara's work, especially Plastic Little which the three birds on the cover are from.

    WP_000307%20(Medium).jpg

Triggerheart Excellica Perfect Collection Art Book
This is brilliant. Big fan of the art from this game, but this art book also has a nice B&W sketch section as well as a strategy guide for the game. Well worth picking up a copy if you can and you like the game.

    WP_000308%20(Medium).jpg

    Psikyo Visualworks Poster Book
Lovely stuff from Psikyo. Especially if you are a fan of their games (and chicks with big jabs judging by the cover).

    WP_000309%20(Medium).jpg

    Intron Depot 3: Ballistics
A big departure from Intron Depot 1, which I also have in my book collection. This features literally tonnes of detailed art, sketches and loveliness by Shirow. It focuses mainly on, well, as the title suggests, Ballistics. Lots of detailed weaponry, battle scenes, tanks, ships etc. The book is extraordinarily heavy and fookin MASSIVE too. Well worth getting, possibly my favourite now out of the two books. I don't have the others (Blades etc) as I'm not a fan of the subject matter.

    Segagaga Perfect File
A hint at what's next. A lovely art and strategy book for the Dreamcast love letter from SEGA, SEGAGAGA.

    WP_000312%20(Medium).jpg

    Segagaga Limited Edition (Dreamcast)
Saving the best until last. This is the limited edition version of SEGAGAGA for the Dreamcast. It comes with a filofax, t-shirt, die cast pins of every SEGA console and of course the Direct edition of the game. A masterpiece from SEGA. :)

    Yay, for the haul.

Boo, for reminding me that the Segagaga ENG-translation has long since come to a halt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,278 ✭✭✭MrVestek

Congrats on grabbing that Segagaga limited edition, very hard to find anywhere.

On the whole Crazy Taxi issue I'd say that in my experience the smoothest running copy of the game that I've ever played was on the Dreamcast. I'd guess that that's because the hardware in the Dreamcast is very similar to the hardware in the NAOMI 1 units. I've experienced a bit of slowdown and framerate dips in the PS2 and GC versions.

Was it yourself that said it would be quicker to learn Japanese than to wait for that translation? :pac:

I did look it up a few months ago and hadn't seen any update for ages. :(

Lovely haul Pyong. Nice to see someone else who isn't afraid to say they like Plastic Little :pac:

A few recent gets, first up is some FrancoB master craftsmanship.

Auto-switching jamma to phono adapter on the left, custom Seibu SPI to RCA cable on the right:

    gTWI3EA.jpg

Some pics of the audio adapter, works very well although I might switch the position to button 4 so it sits between thumb and index finger. When you plug in your heaphones the speakers mute and vice versa when you take them out, very nice.

    C5TnMe2.jpg

    ScDYc6z.jpg

The Seibu cable is so I can connect the SPI mobo to my Taito stereo amp to get stereo from Raiden Fighters/VP1 etc. Haven't got this working yet though so not sure what is wrong in the chain:

    k5l5B43.jpg

Some AWSD PSU wiring as a backup and a P1 harness:

    uHc8eL3.jpg

Next up is the lovely Joystick Gamers and a Tototek PS2 to Saturn adapter. Big thanks to safetyboy for the magazine, it's a really lovely glimpse of Japanese arcades.

    eFbEjUx.jpg

    dLi16xp.jpg

    VynIXGM.jpg

    AgSWLpM.jpg

The Tototek adapter was something I ordered a while back incase the Virtua Stick turned out to be a bit muck, it isn't but still nice to be able to hook up the Namco stick to the Saturn. This adapter and the Mayflash (SS, PS1/2, NS4 to USB) are great little devices.

    n0wjKq0.jpg

I also got the Saturn chipped, cheers EnterNow, so now I can actually play some games in proper vert mode. Alternating between Garegga and the balls hard Image Fight at the minute.

    Imminent death:

Finally happy with the upstairs setup now.

Lovely stuff man! That headphone adapter looks the business - I'm going to get one of those ones with the button plug for the Pony...seeing as it has so many surplus buttons! :pac:

How do you find the volume levels?

It's pretty good I thought, defo not going to deafen you but for when I'll be using it (at night) it will be fine. I think it's pretty cool the way old and new tech can be used together. Nerdy, or is that geeky. :pac:

/Edit: Regarding that Seibu cable problem above, I might just have the JP2 jumper on the mobo in the wrong position for my mobo revision. Wish I could read Japanese to properly understand what is being said here: http://wiki.arcadeotaku.com/images/4/4b/SPI-DipSwitchLocations.JPG

Yeah I think it's just a matter of finding that magic volume sweet spot where the game is audible through the headphones but also doesn't blast the walls down when plugged out. I still think I'll pick up one of those little Cmos amps. Handy being able to control the volume level from under the control panel.

Some nice wiring there Andrew. Do I spot some atomiswave psu cables among the mix. The inked that let you hook up a regular psu with terminals as opposed to the stock one?

Any plans to replace the psu?

Yep AWSD replacement psu cables. Soon after I got the cab I remember reading that the stock Wei Ya PSU in them can be a bit flaky, so I went and bought one of those standard Jamma PSU's (this sort of thing). Have never any issues with the Wei Ya so far but thought it handy to get those cables when I saw he was making them.

No plans to replace unless it goes bang. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

Have read that about the Wei Ya also. But like you ill leave it until it blows. That psu you linked to supplies -5v which (assuming the AWSD permits it) should negate the need for the Negatron.

All my MK boards need it and Raiden does as well I think.

Afaik the AWSD only does 5v, 12v and 3v (I think the 3 is for JVS?) - pretty sure that's what I saw the last time I adjusted the voltages, while ago now though. Yep Raiden defo needs the -5v.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,924 ✭✭✭TechnoFreek

Right. So don't go pawning off the Negatron just yet!

Yeah I think theyre the only voltages supplied by the stock psu but I don't know if the cab loom is wired to accept -5v if available.
