Anyone know the best place to buy a Wii U at the moment?

    Some questions too...

Can I play every game on the touch screen (other than ones that require Wii controller obviously).

Are most games out now for it playable on the screen controller?

What are the best FPS type games to get or Nintendo games to get if I pick one up?

Is it comfortable to play for long periods on touch controller? Is it as a good as a PS3/Xbox 360 controller to play with?

amazon co.uk its €290 for 32 GB premium pak
Nintendo Wii U 32GB Premium Pack - Black

i love the idea that a game that hasn't been released yet (on WiiU) and on all other platforms has been described thusly :
"I can think of no compelling reason why anyone should play this game. Ugly, flat, boring, aggravating and often broken, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is the purest form of video game garbage. It's utterly unworthy of your time and money."
can be listed in the top 3 FPSes on the WiiU platform purely on the basis that there are only 3 to list in total :)

First-to-market - when quality and innovation aren't options!

I tell you who's probably delighted though is GearBox. Because ZombiU isn't an FPS really, so if they hurry they can get Aliens : Colonial Marines into the silver medal position!

Think that's bad? Here's a user review for Need for Speed:Most Wanted out on Friday...

"game is inferior to the 360 version, graphics are on par, not even better and the controls stink. they also changed the number of count on players online from 8 to 6, this is not the best version far from. nintendo released a crappy console that can't even run current gen games at 60fps or 1080p, infact most current gen games are inferior, sell your wiiu while you can before they drop the price to 99$ like the dreamcast."

Oh I might have to reconsider it now after all that informed opinion :D

Hah :D Where's that one from?

Metacritic user reviews...comedy gold seeing as it's the superior PC graphical assets that were used for this version.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,846 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

"Like the dreamcast"? So he's comparing the Wii U to a system that a lot of people liked and people regretted selling? :D

Just see on twitter that the eShop age restriction has been removed

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

So the ZombiU demo is available to people who sleep at night now? Cool!
I expect a lot of 10 year olds who's parents bought them a new Mario box are going to **** themselves to death when they try it out though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,846 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Now to just try and get on to the eShop. :)

Oh is it still coming to the Wii U? I thought it was canned no?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

There are all sorts of rumours. That it's canned. That it's the worst of the bunch. That it's the best of the bunch. That if you play it your chest will explode and aliens will flood your house. None of them have been substantiated yet. But unless they can pull some lazarussian magic off with the code they'd be better off not releasing it. No one who'd be excited about the property can have failed to have heard about how **** the game is.

On the other hand... this property is now poison. No one wants to buy it. But they've got a "working" WiiU build, they have to have if it was scheduled for release in the next month. If they take some time to evaluate where they can push the boat out a little in terms of texture fidelity, lighting and shader complexity, fix the obvious issues with enemy AI and placement, make a kick-ass motion detector out of the WiiU controller, ramp up the tension and dial down the gung-ho; then take a look at their discarded work, see if there's anything in there that would make this game more Aliens and less Call of Dukey... (I remember hearing something about escort missions and civilians turning out to be company spies, that kind of thing... and there has to be a trusted colleague who turns out to be an evil robot, it's tradition!) Surely Sega and Gearbox realise this property has huge potential, and they have an opportunity with the WiiU to fix what they broke and lay the groundwork for a successful Next Gen IP on the neXtBox / PS4 ?

Also, Nintendo could really benefit from having the ONLY good version of a game that everyone wanted to play before they played it :)

The ads write themselves. "In your front room... no one can hear you scream... because you're sitting on the upstairs toilet playing on the Controller screen". You could even hype how terrifying the game is and how useful being able to sit on a toilet during some of the scarier sequences is...

I'd buy it for the Wii U - but I'd pay no more than €9.99 for it. I played the 360 version, its every bit as bland, dull, boring, generic & without soul as people say it is.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,846 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

So you're saying to pull a Ninja Gaiden 3/Deus Ex on it and go back and fix everything people complained about?

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

There was something wrong with Deus Ex? Other than the fact that the PC version won't run on WiiU? That needs fixing if they're going to release it on WiiU...
(I haven't played it yet, but I hope you're not suggesting I wasted my €4.50 on a bad FPRPGSSPGCE!)

Boss battles are poor and don't really fit in with the rest of the game; other than that though it's excellent. They've said they're going to fix the bosses so we'll have to wait and see.

    What he said.

I got it through PS Plus so won't be getting it either

No, HMV Ireland was shut down weeks ago. As far as I'm aware, some of the ones up north are still open, in Derry and Belfast.

Doubt Wii U Colonial Marines would actually be any good, even if it did turn out to be the "definitive" version - definitive version of universally-reviled game is still going to be bad.

Boss battles in Human Revolution were outsourced (hmm, so was Colonial Marines, is there a pattern here?), but the original developers have rebuilt them from the ground up; before, they undermined the stealth elements of the game etc, because they were of the "big boss requires heavy pounding to defeat" variety, but now you will apparently be able to tackle the bosses with different strategies.

Yeah, it looks too broke to fix.... But it would be great for the WiiU to build a rep as the console that fixes broken games and properties . There's something very Nintendo (bordering on Pixar) about that ;)

Edit:now I think about it, didn't they used to call first person games FPP (first person perspective) back before wolfenstein put a machine gun and a hand in the window? So you're not a million miles off

Wasn't there a freeloader disc that let you do exactly that on the Wii?

Yeah it was a great thing the freeloader but was made redundant after a Wii firmware update blocked it from being use.
