Rivers is going to get injured soon playing behind it. Losing starters doesn't matter, they're all bad

AJ's legacy. Not got a clue about the Offensive Line, never drafted a lineman in the first two rounds and its come home to roost

Not true took McNeil in 2006, and was no need to take a linemen early after that with 3 three pro bowlers on the line.

No one thought McNeill and Dielmen would leave in same year.

Tutu is our 3rd WR today, Meachem must be getting ****ter

My bad, he's never selected one in the first round. Even then drafting a tackle this year would have been wise because Clary isn't great to be honest. Like i said here a month ago, Gaither is notoriously unreliable.

Gaither had to be signed last off season, gamble didn't work out which sucks. A decent attitude and he could have been a brilliant LT for us for years.

A decent attitude and he'd be on a long term deal in Baltimore, they spent over a year trying to turn him around before losing patience

    Chiefs gave him another year

    Raiders rejected him

And came to San Diego and looked amazing

And then the real Jared Gaither emerged

Such talent, such a waste :(

    Here is his college coach
"I told them (Newsome and Bisciotti) what I felt," Friedgen said. "If he (Gaither) would just get away from some of the people he hangs around with, get his mind right, dedicate himself ... they got a steal."

In his first public comments since Gaither rose from a struggling student to a supplemental draft pick for the Ravens, Friedgen tempered his high praise for the lineman by questioning Gaither's work ethic - a shortcoming that eventually cost him his starting job.

"Sometimes he wouldn't work," Friedgen said. "I think I have to have some credibility there with my players. ... There were some days he didn't feel like practicing and Dane Randolph was practicing very hard."

Gaither struggled...and was declared academically ineligible for the 2007 season. He hired an agent, though, and was selected by the Ravens in the fifth round of this month's supplemental draft. Asked at yesterday's ACC Football Kickoff whether Gaither has what it takes to survive with the Ravens, Friedgen said, "I hope he does."

"Sometimes money is a great motivator," Friedgen said. "I think he's the most athletic big guy - college or pro - that I've ever been around. ... But he's only played essentially four years of football. His learning curve is tremendous. Now what he's got to do is have the work ethic to do that. I'm pulling for him to do that."

Ravens had options so they had the luxury of getting rid of him, Chargers had no alternative. His contract should have been heavily weighted to performance bonuses.
The sad thing is we'll cut him in the off season but his talent will lead him to getting picked up by another team when injuries hit next season

Just on the pro bowl comment on the other thread. The only players on our team who should be in with a shot are

    Stuckey
    Butler
    Luiget
    Weddle
    Scrifes
    Franklin

PFF only has Stuckey on there list though.

Our front 7 has been fantastic for most of this year i think but they don't get much credit for it.
Butler, Weddle and Stuckey should all be in the pro-bowl, Franklin and Liuget will be unlucky i think.

Not a fan of pro-bowl voting, popularity goes above performance

I've ignored the Pro Bowl for years. I think it's funny how players build it into their contracts because it is not like being the best player at your position means you get there. It's a joke of a vote....

Our 3-4 DEs will never get selected to the PB as they are not sack gathering, and these are the DEs that get to the PB. Having said that our guys esp Reyes and Liuget would be great defensive tackles if they were to qualify for that spot in terms of voting.

For me the only guys on our team deserving and matching respect/awards are Weddle, Butler, Stuckey and Scifres.

As for last nite lads.... I was just numb. Felt no anger, no frustration........ nothing.

I'm so detached from the team this season it's scary. I've believed we've been done since the Denver game in SD. And so each week has been more and more confirmation of that.

It's such a pity Dean did not make a change at HC in the offseason, if he had AJ might even have survived. Now in my opinion both need to go yesterday.

Have to agree Leslie, was watching the game and wanted the chargers to win but was also thinking the best thing for us is to lose, either way the result did not feel important to me although i think its important to support the team no matter what. Indifference is not a nice feeling to have about the team and i really want this season to finish so we can start being positive again.
The mad thing is if we'd won yesterday we had the wild card spot in our hands considering we were a game behind Pit and Cin and had to play both. Play offs would be great but getting there as an 8-8 or 9-7 team does nothing for the long term goals, the high draft pick will.
What i'd like to see now is the young lads getting time, Wright, Taylor, Mouton, L Green, V Brown, Troutman and even Molk. Get Gilchrist, Ingram and Reyes more time. Get Tutu out there, he's a better chance of sticking around than Meachem so let him and Rivers work together.

And finally credit where it's due, i thought Cason was very good yesterday, i give out about him a lot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭Leslie91

Yeah let's get the young guns in there now.

    Ingram for JJ
    Mouton for Spikes
    Green for McMichael
    Molk for Hardwick
    Anybody for Clary
    Wright for Jammer
    Taylor for Bigby
    Troutman for Hadnot
Whitehurst for Rivers (don't want Rivers behind experimental/extra young O line)
    Look to the future.............

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,277 ✭✭✭Justin10

    Well that was fun :D

Just on Cason, he is a fine Corner, is well able but for some reason is just not performing. Showed last night he can play.

Was very impressed with Wright and Gilchrist. That tackle on Bolden by Wright was brilliant got his hand in at the perfect time, and never knew Gilchirst was so fast couldnt believe he caught Smith on the short pass he took for a big chunk of yards.

Barnes also showed he really is useful to have around.
Butler was a big loss, need to keep our front 7 together this off season.
Have not got the draft picks to be investing there where there is needs else where.

We could easily win or lose the next two games. As long as we beat the Jets and Raiders im happy :D

    Next deals i'd like to see done and the order are;
Butler. He's earned it and lets tie him up long term. Centre piece of defence for 5 more years
Alexander. Rivers is comfortable with him, he's making plays. Incentivised contract as he has injury issues
Vasquez. Good RG, best O-line player we have and only one i'd keep. Can't afford to overpay here
Franklin. This will be a 2year max extension but he's earned it
Martin. Is a good rotation player and worth keeping around.
Barnes. Pass rush is all he brings but he's relatively young and worth investing in.
Phillips. Declining but if it's a cheap 2year deal it'd be good business
Rosario. Not vital to re-sign but can be a weapon on offence and young enough to develop
Cason. Will have to take a pay cut and I'm sure some other team will offer more.

After this i think we should extend contracts with Windt and Tutu

Crazy to think if Miami lose a game then we still have our faith in our own heads concerning the playoffs with a record of 4-7

Not for second saying we are going win out but AFC has been very poor this year, in all seriousness with no pressure on if we beat Bengals and Steelers (without Big Ben) it could get interesting.

Not too pushed about a high draft pick because Tackle position is deep and im sure that is our number 1 need.

Totally agree with your post OAOB about contracts.

Roasario depends who is available in this years free agency.
All the rest are a must to be honest. I expect Meachem to play a lot better under a different scheme.
Was great to see him one of the main ones concerned when Norv was talking to the ref about spot of ball on Ray Rice play.
Shows it does mean something to him playing for us unlike Gaithar.

The deep tackle class means there will be good value to be had in the middle of the 1st round but if we've one of the top picks we could get the 2nd or 3rd best guard at the start of the second too. An early second round pick would be invaluable to us.

I don't really expect Meachem to step it up a huge amount but it was great to see him concerned with what the refs were saying. Whatever about his production this year his attitude has been great. I just can't see him making the difficult catches that Alexander has been doing lately

    We're all on the same page almost. The following need to be brought back/extended whatever the money;

Butler, Alexander, Ronnie and Martin (these last 3 should not cost too much).

    The following can be brought back/extended at the right money;

Phillips, Cason (like OAOB I expect some other team will overpay, he should only be a backup/punt returner here), Vasquez, Green, Windt, Barnes, Williams, Rosario, Franklin (or go younger via draft), Gatson and Tutu.

    The following can be let go;

Garay, Clary (or take pay cut & come back as a backup), McClain, Randy, Goodman, Brinks, Hadnot, Battle, Jammer (unless we try him at SS, but then Taylor misses out on time, Jam back with a pay cut maybe), English (what a bust), Lynch, Bigby.

Not sure about bringing Green back, its all dependant on how Troutman progresses. Trying out our younger players for the last few games would really help us decide what our draft requirements are.
Looks like we'll get to see Taylor and Mouton this weekend, considering that they've both been inactive for nearly every game my expectations are low but it'd be great if one could show some starter potential

I'd love to see Taylor get the start this weekend. Mouton might be a poor man's Siler or Dobbins ie. can hit but can't pass cover to save his life. And he was a 2nd rounder jeeeez.

So Bigby id IR'd and we sign Bront Bird, i guess our special teams need the help.

More disappointingly is Lynch has been named starting safety, disgusted with this. Get Taylor starting

I'm not surprised to hear this... but like you disappointed. I guess the reason given will be 'we are not out of this thing yet and Corey gives us the best chance to win what with his experience and all blah blah blah'.

So, we'll see Taylor on STs and maybe on D once or twice I reckon. Maybe Lynch will get hurt ala Bigby and he'll get his chance that way. I wonder what would have happened had Stuckey been fit to play. Do you think he is strictly a FS backup?, I've seen reports of Gilchrist playing FS were Weddle not able to go. I assume that was provided Stuckey was out too right?

I suppose there really is no incentive for Norv to look at the long term benefits for the team.
We were doing incredibly well with injuries, first real chance non starters are getting on defence.
Is Butler definitely out this week? How bad was Gachkar injured?

It's certainly looking like Butler will miss the game. Gachkar should be ok, I don't see him listed on any 'missing time' lists. Stuckey looks to be gone too.

Seriously what a team, still in this game, then four winable games even with how poor we have been and we are in the playoffs.

    Only the Chargers :D

Ps I really really dont want Chip Kelly
