Driving an e240 this evening. Quick car but 20.4 mpg....

went to view another glanza tonight, this one being a grand more expensive and an hour further away.

    well holy fcuk.

looks brilliant i'n the photo's which i'l upload soon.

neglected to mention in the advert -

panel gaps around the front bumper you could literally fit 4 fingers in
    bonnet crooked
    no front reg plate
    front mounted intercooler unbelievably crooked
    lacquer peeling from carbon bonnet
garden hose used as piping to the oil catch tank
side skirts fitted using self tapping screws
door rubbing off the side skirts when you open it
    radio doesn't work
horrific job butchering speakers into the door cards
front and back seats were mismatched and riddled with fag burns
pillar mounted gauges (which i didn't like anyway) lit up but didn't work
lacquer peel/ paint reaction on the roof and rear spoiler
tyres the wrong profile so at the slightest sign of a road imperfection they would rub

said to myself hi-ho its all cosmetic damage for the greater part, wouldn't cost a bomb to tidy. car still has "low" mileage and a few months test.

hop in for a drive, 1st to 2nd... CRUNCH!, check second again, CRUNCH... parked it up and left it so.

all these items are things you cant tell from advert photos. do "boyos" not expect you to notice that second gear has shat itself and the body kit was fitted by stevie wonder when you arrive?

fuming at this stage, wondering should i give up on a glanza?

    edit : also

missing the catch for one of the bonnet pins
top of the front bumper held up with cable ties

Not surprised the MPG is so low if you were driving it on. To be honest though life is too short to be worrying about mpg

Floored it for about 4 seconds. The rest was complete easy driving.

For anyone in the Douglas, City or Lough areas in Cork, I just got petrol in the Great Gas station next to Blackwater motors at 1.58 ish. Diesel is 1.56 I think.

    Really cheap.

    Thats cheap for petrol..

Robbing bastids around here are 1.65..

Pretty disgusting topic I know but has anyone noticed that recently there is a huge amount of roadkill on the M50? I had being noticing it for quite a few weeks hoping to god I managed to avoid it as my car is very low.

Anyway, today, coming off the N81 onto the M50 I hit something (already dead) and it took the front splitter off my car. I'm afraid to see what other damage it's caused and I'm pretty disgusted at the moment.

    yuk

Aye, but by the time I drive to Stillorgan, it'd cost me more, what with it being about a mile down the road :P

Does DoneDeal sort their ads by when they were last updated by any chance?

If you pay the 3 quid again your add gets bumped to the top. Updating details won't bump the ad afaik.

Nope. If you update your add it is still in the same position. Was anyway when my skyline add went up.
I really don't get that seller. Why would he play with that price like this. Car is still for sale ages!

Applegreen, Ballinteer €163.8, Maxol Ballinteer €164.9 but get 5c / liter off if you spend €50 or more in Superquinn.

If that's the car you want then I'd keep searching.
Are you only looking at Adverts, DD, etc... Or have you been looking at owners clubs and specialises forums?
    Thought about importing?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,412 ✭✭✭andyseadog

i'm all over the owners forums, donedeal, adverts, gumtree, carzone you name it.

i wouldn't mind but i think i have a good eye for a car and none of that damage was apparent in the photos.

"yeah it crunches into second sometimes but the other gears are all fine he says"

oh thats fine then, i wont use second so, sorted :)

anything that looks nice on the owners forums is at least a 4 hour drive away and i couldnt face driving 4 hours to be as disappointed as i was last night, and i dont really think importing is in my price range.

going to look at the overpriced one in n4 car sales thats been for sale for like 3 years (literally) this afternoon, see if i can take home a bargain :) not the straightest looking one, but if the money is right.

Glanza's are class, it's a shame they have such a bad rep though. Even now, one of the most mad cars I was ever in - my friends 320hp glanza. Even my 400hp skyline could not catch damn thing.
Did you tried gt turbo glanza forum? Might be few for sale.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/3388134

seen this boyo of an add when searching the word "glanza"

seemed like the friendly sort so i said id give him a wind up via text :)

me : how much for the mazda
    him : make an offer
    me : 300
    him : nahh ur alri
me : how much do you want for it then? i've been looking for a 323 hatch
him : were bouts r yeh
    me : bray

that is the word for word conversation with nothing removed, that is also where the conversation ended.

i have no interest in the car and just text him for that laugh, i also thing 300 is a good offer on that car with no tax or test and structural corrosion.

edit : just seen this http://m.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/2991633

Well hopefully the one this evening is right. Otherwise it's time to start planning some trips I think. Maybe make a weekend of them, rather than just going to see the cars?
Ah, just don't give up hope. :)

@ shadowhearth i'm on all the good forums, just nothing decent within a reasonable distance to travel unfortunately.

i've also got the whole week off work to pursue this :D

Would you consider ringing sellers and asking them to meet halfway? If you like the car and want to buy it, THEN go to their house to do the deal. At least you'll know then that the whole journey won't be in vain.

You can put it through early, that way there's nothing to worry about.
