I'd be amazed if they were that low when Opel and rover etc had 200bhp 2.0 turbo yokes back then.

I though the YB Cosworth engines where over 200hp.

Certainly all the Escort Cosworths were.

The first result on it was this. My thinking of it would have been the same as JohnD's, but I have a found another page which talks of narrowing of ports to increase VE. I've it bookmarked so I'll read it more later on.

Probably a discussion for a thread on its own, but would a venturi not distort the air fuel ratio just before it enters the cylinder?

This is part of the reason why Manifold absolute pressure(MAP) sensors are much more accurate then Mass air flow(MAF/AFM) sensors.

The air/fuel ratio is fine tuned by the lambda sensors, which are after the combustion process so the fuelling will be adjusted automatically to the optimum level. The better the manifold works(more air that can enter the cylinders), the more fuel that will be added to match and the more power will be produced. This is the basic process. The latest electronic systems and emission control processes make things much more complicated though.

Interestingly, this confirms what you're saying. I had checked the reg (JED3V) on my car check which came up with 162 BHP and 6.5secs hence my comment. Lookalike they got the power wrong!

God, I need to vent about this.
I've no problem with people having set ideas on something as long as it's not a subject based on fact but OH MY GOD, this drives me nuts.

So whats his problem? He doesnt know what the model name is and somehow how thinks calling it a Lexus adds to its alure? Despite the fact its got a Toyota badge on the bonnet and as you point out, Lexus is a marketing arm of Toyota anyway??

.. and if reckons Lexus is emblazoned on the engine cover of one he looked at, unreal level of being sofakingweetoddad.

Yeh, but he is a mechanic after all. Sure it's the dealers that are idiots, giving him wrong parts and everything sometimes!

He probably just tries to find the Lexus in everything.

To the tune of M-People's Search for the Hero -

"search for the lexus inside yourself, search for the key to your luxo-brand"

Terrible foetid dead-leaves smell in the car out the vents on startup every now and then. Probably the pollen filter. Drive with window open instead as replacing it isn't possible....

    Not for a while anyway.

So you're friends with a simpleton who thinks he's a mechanic, thinks Lexus are a brand on their own trying to be bigger than Toyota and trying to be like Toyota, thinks Subaru just do rally cars, thinks Toyota have Hyundai engines, thinks Fiat have Alfa engines and can't spell or construct proper sentences. Have I missed anything? Where to start with that guy! Invite him to a Motors Meet!
