Going to be hard to justify game pass this year

Outside of the Harris timing all these moves are fine. If we want to get the first pick next year and a shot at Darnold or whomever we want of the 2 others then this is the way to do it.

Get rid of Forte as well at this stage and don't start McCowan. The 49ers / Browns / Bears and I think Broncos are all going to be very low win teams next year. Jets need to make sure they are the worst of the lot.

Wow didn't see those coming this late anyway. That's a really tough gig for Hackenberg now, just Quincy and kids to aim for now.

Yeah if it had happened in March I dont think there'd be nearly as much made of the moves. Apparently Monday was the last day for current season ticket holders to pay for their new ones, another sh1t move by the Jets brass.

Along with Forte and McGown theres only two other players over 30 on the roster, McLendon and Tanner Purdum. So alot of youth in this team and I'm looking forward to seeing if some of them can make legit names for themselves

    Week 1 (Sept. 10): at Bills, 1 p.m.

    Week 2 (Sept. 17): at Raiders, 4:05 p.m.

    Week 3 (Sept. 24): vs. Dolphins, 1 p.m.

    Week 4 (Oct. 1): vs. Jaguars, 1 p.m.

    Week 5 (Oct. 8): at Browns, 1 p.m.

    Week 6 (Oct. 15): vs. Patriots, 1 p.m.

    Week 7 (Oct. 22): at Dolphins, 1 p.m.

    Week 8 (Oct. 29): vs. Falcons, 1 p.m.

    Week 9 (Nov. 2, Thursday): vs. Bills, 8:25 p.m.

    Week 10 (Nov. 12): at Buccaneers, 1 p.m.

Week 11 (Nov. 19): Bye week

    Week 12 (Nov. 26): vs. Panthers, 1 p.m.

    Week 13 (Dec. 3): vs. Chiefs, 1 p.m.

    Week 14 (Dec. 10): at Broncos, 4:05 p.m.

    Week 15 (Dec. 17): at Saints, 1 p.m.

Week 16 (Dec. 24): vs. Chargers

Week 17 (Dec. 31): at Patriots

Looking at the schedule I'd be thinking 4 wins would be as good as it gets them. But in saying that I don't think the team will be that much worse than then team we watched last year.
QB I assume this is McCown's job unless he suffers an injury. I dont think this is any better or Worse than FitzPatrick last year.

RB Will be the same group as last year but Powell should be getting a much bigger share of the carries.

WR On paper this unit looks a lot worse, but Decker was on IR for the majority of the season and Marshall had a pretty sub par season. I'm looking forward to seeing how this group progress.

TE Cant really be any worse than last season! Reporters from camp have been say that ASJ is in much better shape this year and theres the rookie Leggett, so hopefully they'll get a bit more production out of the TE position this year.

OL The guards remain the same. They replaced one injury prone LT with another, so than could go anyway. I think the RT spot will be a battle between Ijalana and Shell, so pretty much the same situation as last year. The biggest change come at centre, where for the first time in 11 years Mangold wont be anchoring the line. I dont think there will be a massive drop in performance between Mangolds play last year and his replacement Johnson

DL Will be the same as last year, but hopefully Wilkerson will get back to the 14/15 season form and Bowels decides to use Richardson in his actual position. Also think Dion Simon will be the starting NT sooner rather than later.

OLB Same group as last year.

ILB This is probably the worse unit on defence. They lost an absolute rock like Harris and replaced him with DeMario Davis, which is definitely a big step backwards.

CB If new acquisition Claiborne can stay fit for the season it'll will big a big improvement for what was a terrible unit last year, thats a big if though. I assume Claiborne will be CB1 with Burris/Williams opposite him which will allow Skrine back into his natural position at nickel.

S This position was a real dumpster fire last year. It seems that two rookies will be taking over the starting duties, so its anyones guess as to how they get on.

I'm a life long Jets fan, and the only explanation I can come up with for Woody Johnson's latest moves are that he wants to be as hated as his buddy and new boss Donny Trump.  Rebuilding by letting go of your best players? Tanking a season to get one player? --- Nobody is that stupid.

Jets have placed Enunwa on IR :( I was looking forward to seeing how he got on as the number 1 receiver. Gutted for him.

Christ that's a disaster, Hack will have nothing to throw at this year.

Haven't been on here for a while but need to vent! My god the Jets are FUBAR. Nobody seems to know what they are doing, not the GM, not the coach, not the players. Offensive line is a mess and this is no surprise as it has been constantly ignored by the front office. One oft injured free agent replaces another at Tackle and appears that the earliest found you can be drafted to play Guard for the Jets is 5. I know fans are holding out for the 1st pick nxt year but do you really trust the current regime to make that choice. Currently they are signing more safeties abdominal trading for a long snapper! The mind boggles! I am in NJ for the Patriots home game but don't think I will look for a ticket even. My prediction is two wins at most. Only hope is Pats don't win Super Bowl and college football season is exciting. Rant over feel free to disagree.

I really want to be positive, by I can't. I know Hack had an awful preseason, but they should just let him loose now. We're not gonna be anywhere near a playoff birth and lose games with McCown. so may as well go down in a blaze of glory.

In all my years following the Jets, this is the first time I'm really worried going into the season. Defensively we're good, but offensively we're awful. Like how can you develop a young qb when the O line lets him get drilled.

It's gonna be a fun* 16 weeks (fun not guaranteed!!)

Why Hack over Petty? He looks far closer to an NFL style QB, sure a lower ceiling probably but I think he has far more likelihood of turning into something serviceable.

I've a feeling they'll be a lot of venting in this thread this year!! The only reasoning I can come with for the move Maccagnan has been making are that the owners have basically given him a free pass this year and regardless of want happens Bowles and himself are safe for the following year.

The tackle position is a real mess alright, not so worried about the guard position, Winters and Carpenter have them locked down they need to be. They really need to invest in the tackle position, especially at LT if they're planning on spending a high draft pick on a QB. Like Midfield Dynamo said there's no point in having a young prospect at QB if you cant protect him.

Regarding the LS trade, apparently Purdum had a bit of a shocker during training camp. They're getting a LS thats 10 years younger and a has smaller cap hit. The safety they traded him for was never making the 53 man roster, so yeah no real problem with it!

This season is going to be bleak no doubt but the one thing I'm looking forward too is the fact that they're going be fielding so many young players (only 4 over the age of 30) who will be looking to prove themselves. So hopefully a few of these will step up and become stars of the future.

McCown has been named starter anyway and the word for the Jets camp is that Petty has the number 2 job. So Petty will probably have the starting job by week 4, because there's no way a 38 year old will survive behind the two starting tackles!

Which all confirms the reports consistently about Hackenberg - he's beyond rubbish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,779 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

I like Josh McCown by the way. Yes he's a journeyman and not the answer. But he's a gritty pro who dug out some nice games in his career. We'll be in a few games when we let him loose to sling the rock.

I agree but my only issue is that this staff has no record of developing talent and coaching up players. I also wonder about the Jets scouting system and talent evaluation. Can't think of any player outside of 1st round picks that have turned out to be anything other than average.

Yeah, good old Teflon Terry didn't help that situation! Maccagnan isn't exactly covering himself in glory considering he came from a scouting background

So the the Jets got a 2nd and Kearse for Richardson, I they they have to be pretty happy with that. I had been thinking that a 4th or 5th would have been as good as it got. Good move for both teams in my opinion

Good trade for both teams, surprised we cut Dion Simon though, assumed he would have backed up mclendon and leo pushed out wider?

Preseason over and a 53 man roster finalised. I don't hold out much hope for this season and while we might be tanking I also have a feeling we will be looking for a new GM and/or coachoose at the end of the season again. Anyway my prediction is max 3 wins.

I backed us to get whitewashed at 20/1 but I reckon we'll grab a win or two. I hope we stick with Mac but I wouldn't be disappointed if bowles was replaced. Whoever is in charge next year will want a couple of years with the new qb .

Looking at the Jets schedule I could see us picking up four wins, max, and that's with a large slice of luck.

Either way we're looking at a top five first found pick in the draft and in all likelihood probably a top three

Curly J Third Down Vroom Vroom Machine is back on a 1 year deal! Bit of a head scratcher considering the current regime cut him for none financial reasons. I guess they'll go with Anderson/Kearse on the outside with Kerley lining up in the slot, and Stewart and Hansen being the understudy.

Petty officially named as the backup today too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,425 ✭✭✭franglan

Only saw the first 3 preseason games so far - Petty has outplayed Hack. Has to be back-up. He'll see game time after 6 games.

He has been pretty underwhelming to say the least. Not a hope he'll make a starting QB. He could still be an ok backup given time.

Just not sure how long the Jets will stick with him.
