From my time travelling abroad, there are two very different views on Van Gaal. I find it interesting many of the Dutch people I have talked to be it when over in Holland in the past or on another forum likewise Bayern and Bundesliga fans are quite critical of him.

He's a good coach, but overhyped by some sections of fans and media alike. I don't think he'll do with this bunch of Holland players currently. If it was a younger squad, one that is willing to learn and entirely buy into his footballing philosophy, I could see him doing well.

The point is that in Holland we hear and see much more of him than anywhere else.
The thing that most people really cant stand from him is his arrogance and attitude (look, how ****ing brilliant i am) when things go well for him.
But when things go tits up, it is everybody and the entire worlds fault except of course his own.

He can do good things with a young and/or inexperienced squad and work with them on a daily basis, i give him that. Ajax in the 90's, AZ and to a lesser extend Barca showed that

But have him deal with a few experienced "stars" and you can wait till everything explodes.
And lets face it, a national team is usually pretty short of young, inexperienced players.

And to add injury to insult, that weasel Danny Blind is appointed as his assistant

But then again, even Gullit seem to have been in the race

Who are chelsea gonna replace ashley with? He's 31 now? This could be his last great season and his level could drop this season.

The only thing lol-worthy about that is that you quoted a website called "Football Friends Online".

There's talk that de Jong to Gladbach will go through next week for a fee around €12m.

SPanish press reporting Modric will be a Madrid player within 10 days

RvP would reportedly prefer a move to Barca.

Also the telegraph say Fabio Borini will become Rodgers first signing for Liverpool.

Is that the Telegraph article that states that Borini is joint owned by Parma and Roma?

Really was a shoddy bit of journalism that got some of the basics wrong about the players ownership.

The Telegraph are surprisingly poor for football, given that they are a better paper generally over here.

I cant see any other solution - at least for next season.
Cole was poor by his standards early season, then, when Bertrand got a few starts and Cole got a rest, his performances went up.
Reckon its make or break time for Bertrand this season

Cole was still excellent in both games against Barca and in the UCL final. Hes still one of the best fullbacks around and Bertrand is some way off him but thats not really to alarming when your consider youve one of tbe best fullbacks in the game ahead of ya.

Bertrand and Van Aanholt have huge boots to fill and at the moment Bertrand is slightly ahead of PVA but some way short of matching Cole, it would be brillant if he could though.

Vicente's pretty much long gone - he won't turn up for pre-season training for them, he's still in Spain. He only signed a one year deal - his contract had an option of a 2nd year if both he and Brighton agreed on it. He didn't agree, but Brighton went ahead and took up the option anyway. He refuses to sign it, he apparently wants to join Elche where a friend of his is manager who's been quite vocal about bringing him in.

Porto sign Jackson Martinez for 9 million euros

Look forward to seeing how he gets on at Porto. A friend of mine over in the US raves about the lad. Can't really comment on him myself as I don't think I've seen him play (unless he came on for Columbia during Copa America), but his goalscoring record does look impressive for both country, despite being a sub and at the clubs he's been with so far.

    ________

Keita, who has left Barca looks like moving to newly promoted Chinese side, Dalian Aerbin, who were linked with Drogba and Amauri already this year.

Keita, he could easily do a good job in the PL I reckon. China looks like the new MLS.

The Mirror are reporting that Villa are after Bertrand on loan or permanent, but Di Matteo wants to keep him and to offer him a new contract with a promise of gametime.

The Mirror is also reporting that Wolves value Steven Fletcher at 10million which might put off Sunderland. As far as I am aware, Wolves do not need to sell so can see them holding out for as much as possible. They will be looking for a lot for Jarvis as well. Wolves have a pretty good squad for the Championship even if they sell Fletcher and Jarvis. They should be able to keep ahold of Doyle, can not see many offers for him,but I think he could revitalise himself alongside Ebanks-Blake in this division.

He was never staying once Pep left.

Oh god no. No, no, no.

I'm a liberal with a few socialist ideas thrown in the mix.

All I meant was it's better than the likes of the Mirror or the Sun.

Michael Mancienne is being linked with a return to Wolves. http://www.sundaymercury.net/midlands-sport/wolverhampton-wanderers-fc/wolverhampton-wanderers-news/2012/07/08/wolverhampton-wanderers-ponder-move-for-michael-mancienne-66331-31347572/

I thought he was pretty poor the last time he was with Wolves, did not seem to have the positioning sense to play in either defence or midfield. Have not seen any of his performances in Germany so he might have improved. Would be a decent addition for the Championship, he can't be worse than Roger Johnson.

The times reporting Ade to Spurs almost done for £5m!

    Levy is something else.

    What's the story with wages?

I reckon he was anybodies for that price, maybe even less for a team outside England, City just need to offload him and a few others badly!

I imagine he'll get our max wages but he will get a massive signing on bonus it's a trick Levy has used before to ensure the wage structure is maintained.
